Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021

Early screening. This was really great and lots of fun. Recommended!

If there’s something strange in your neighbourhood, stay indoors and settle down with this movie. It’s a sweet, nicely acted film, that pays homage to the original movies while still doing its own thing. Ignore the sniffy reviews written by some critics. I, for one, am not afraid of their posts!

loading replies

The original Ghostbusters was the first film I saw in a cinema. So glad they decided to dump the 2016 reboot and make a half decent follow up to the originals and at least the storyline did continue this time. For those who remember the original, this is a great way to be nostalgic with your grandkids. For the younger generation, watch both the originals )1984 and 1989) then watch this so you understand the older characters more, especially the link to the baby Mr Stay Pufts. It's the little things like that not being overlooked that make this film enjoyable.

I soooo love it how the trailer completely ignores that the all-female Ghostbusters movie ever existed. Like it never happened, like it was only a bad dream.

EDIT:
Just watched it. I can't say the movie was spectacular, but it was darn spectacular to me.
I believe the movie paid all due respects to the Ghostbusters and that it was carefully made not to disappoint. It worked!
And yes, I'm high on nostalgia while typing it.

P.S. Anyone else got emotional when Ecto-1 first sounded the sirens?

loading replies

This is a really special movie. It honours the originals and serves as a direct sequel, expanding the lore of their universe and creating new characters that are fun to follow. It feels like an old-style adventure movie of the likes of "The Goonies", "The Sandlot" or "E.T."

loading replies

Everything I could have hoped for. Seems like a passing of the torch, hopefully they continue and start down their own path. Great movie and made my eyes water

loading replies

Say what you will about the 2016 version, but at least it understood that Ghostbusters is a silly high concept comedy from the funny people from SNL and not a serious, brooding drama with "lore" that needs exploring.

:heart:x8
This is the only movie deserving to be the 3rd in the Ghostbusters trilogy.

It was a lot of fun, smart, and brought back so many good memories. A throwback to when blockbuster movies were good and fun, with feelings. I loved how Trevor and Phoebe actually looked like their grandfather Egon.

They could easily make a couple more sequels with this cast.

I only have one negative thing to say - Paul Rudd was really creepy as the gatekeeper. Maybe a little too much so. lol

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’:

  1. The best parts of the movie were, hands down, all the nostalgia… the reunions, the music, and the easter eggs. And I thought the tribute to Harold Ramis was beautiful — and incredibly impressive.

  2. I kinda hated the complete lack of any Ghostbusters 2 recognition.

  3. It was a cute movie, and I enjoyed it, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve been scratching my head to decipher what exactly was lacking… but, honestly, I just think the story itself is simply forgettable. It started out with potential, but ultimately wasn’t strong enough for such a legacy. I can appreciate revisiting Gozer, but it felt like a miss to me. I think I would’ve preferred more of an original story than what felt like a rushed rehash.

loading replies

Did you all watch the mid- and after credit scenes? Definetly a hint for another movie.

loading replies

Yes, it's more a less a retread of the first but yes I had a blast. There was a bittersweet moment init that made my eyes well up. The whole audience burst into song at the end AND My three year old kept proclaiming how good the film was. That alone is enough to give 8 stars to a nostalgia play

Oh and both the mid-credit scene and the end credit bumper were gold

loading replies

Hey, how about we make a ghostbusters movie with uninteresting kids with a terrible mother and no funny parts? What's the story? Basically the same concerns as the first movie in the 80s but there won't be any of the same tension, triumph or charm we felt like the originals delivered.
Seriously what is this? The best parts of the entire movie are when we get to see the originals come back into it. Everything else is absolutely boring with a splash of who cares. The movie made me miss the originals.
Instead we get the little rascals version of ghostbusters.

The only reason this gets stars is because we get to see the original cast.

loading replies

the movie was way better than I expected! the only thing that I think that they shouldn't have done is showed Egon's ghost. in my opinion, if they kept the ghost as an ominous presence, or if they hadn't shown Egon's face, I think it would be better. the CGI is still not good enough... but there is some good pratical effects!

loading replies

Like a Happy Meal: not disgusting but not enough meat and made for kids.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife isn't a film for all ages, it's more for just the younger ones. It was nice to see the original cast reunited and the references were cute but I prefer the 2016 reboot, tbh.

loading replies

It respects the original film and pays homage to it with many emotional moments. It still delivers an exiting new cast and it was fun to watch them work together keeping the quirky humour intact that we expect from a ghostbusters movie. Stay puft in your seat and watch!

loading replies

Couldn't even finish...what a disappointment! Some movies just can't compete with originals.

loading replies

So tell me, (just after the midway point at 1:05:00) who here said the word after the sheriff asked the well known question, "Who you gonna call?" lol I know I did.

loading replies

Part of my 2022 Ghostbuster FunTime - 3 of 3

I'll be honest here... Ghostbuster: Afterlife isn't really what I wanted from the third installment of one of my favorite franchises of all time.

But...

It's so filled with nostalgic moments that I couldn't help but somewhat enjoying myself. The acting is ok, the action decent as well, the story, however, leaves a bit to be desired. I'm not sure what they tried to achieve with shifting the focus from adults to kids, but it didn't really work for me. And what is up with choosing rural Oklahoma as a setting for this?!? It made the whole thing a bit distant...with a lack of a better word. Also...moviemakers need to stop using the “genius kid” thing. It's really getting old.

Anyway...If you love the Ghostbuster movies, and are in the nostalgic corner, you might get something out of this. I did, but...I was sure hoping for something more.

loading replies

Take out the nostalgia and this movie sucked. Waited almost 2 hours to see the ghostbusters and they show up in the last five minutes.

loading replies

In some scenes, Elmer Bernstein's main theme for "Ghostbusters" (1984) sounds, but it doesn't fit, it seems isolated and anachronistic. Something like this is what happens with the whole film, despite the intended nostalgia. It's an attempt to fix the mess of the 2016 version, but that one at least wanted to keep, unsuccessfully, the funky tone of the original, while this kind of dark (literally) "Stranger things" is lacking in it. Although the tribute to Harold Ramis as one of the creators of a film that, today, maintains its effectiveness as a funny prank, is really emotional.

loading replies

Compared to other remakes this actually was worthy of that title, especially when the last movie I watched was Matrix Resurrections, this alone makes me glad that in these days and times something like this is still possible. They honored the original which is good enough in my books.

loading replies

Way better than the crappy reboot from a few years ago.

Not a fan of making Ghostbusters into Spy Kids either though. At least they are 15 and not 10, not making it totally ridiculous.
What makes it really weird is that two of the actors (Finn Wolfhard and Celeste O'Conner) are actually way older than their characters.

I can't see why Trevor needs to be 15 since all the important stuff in school happens to Phoebe (Whose actress actually is 15...).

loading replies

Super fun watch and worthy sequel..good to see you again Egon

loading replies

This movie was so good up until the marshmallow grocery store scene. That’s where the movie fell apart.

loading replies

Worst movie ever. A cheap, cheap, cheap joke.... I am honestly shocked! If Hollywood continues to deliver such rip-offs I maybe never going to a cinema again.

loading replies

This had potential to be a wonderful "passing the torch" film, but it is ultimately a misfire as the climax completely undercuts everything from the first 2/3 of the film and depends solely on cashing in its nostalgia chips. It also doesn't help that there's so much recycling of the original Ghostbusters film. There are a few fun scenes, but this is mostly a throwaway that will make zero sense to folks who aren't already fans of the originals.

loading replies

man, come on. I wanted Paul Rudd in the action at the end. they completely decided to put him inside a terror dog.

loading replies

Such a let down. Boring.

loading replies

A pretty well done nostalgia operation: this time is not an irrelevant gender-swap reboot, because al the right people were in the right places in the production. This time they chose an original Ghostbusters vibe, and I think it paid off.

Don't get me wrong, I still think this is a commercial operation, and some parts of the movie were created with the only objective to make you feel that revamping feeling, but that's ok, because we're talking about a very easy and fun movie, and that's it. It is something you would watch with no particular expectations, and you'll be very entertained, with the plus it's like finding an old friend you haven't seen in years.

I hope this is just a very touching way to pay a tribute to Harold Ramis, but I guess this would be the starting point to elaborate a new Ghostbusters universe, and I don't know if this would be a good thing. We'll see.

loading replies

I love Carrie Coon, she is great in everything she is in and this is no exception. This is a fun movie, it's basically just a nostalgia trip, but it's serviceable. Will people still be watching this 20 years from now like the original films? Probably not, but it's a nice send off.

loading replies

Solid fun. Fan service, new adventure and not too much cringe humour. 7.4

loading replies

The incredibly likable characters and the nostalgia are the selling points here for me, especially since the story is pretty derivative. It is also great -- and increasingly rare -- to see adult characters who aren't complete idiots worthy of nothing but mocking and contempt from the younger generation. And as for that younger generation? Hey, even before things go completely pear-shaped, they have far more on their minds here than just TikTok and getting laid -- again, and increasingly rare thing.

loading replies

This was definitely a fun movie to watch. I definitely stands out from the first two, because the first two, you think of New York City where they had taken place, and this one was set out in the country, but once you get past that, I think it’s a enjoyable move for what it is.

loading replies

This is a very special movie for me. I used to be a big ghostbusters fan and seeing how this movie honor the original and does everything right, warms my heart :)

loading replies

Terrible if not for the special effects and the (two) entertaining action scenes. The original movies have aged poorly, and the idea of transposing the franchise's usual tropes onto an old-school kids' adventure could have worked. However, the writing and overall structure are just too bad to ignore - it's just a lazy parade of genre stereotypes, inconsequential gags, and Easter eggs for nostalgic fans. I imagine the writers sitting at their laptops with the Easter egg checklist beside them. It's symptomatic that they bothered to mate all the main characters as soon as they got their first solo scene. The little girl's character might be formulaic, but she is the only one to work.

loading replies

the cgi didn't suit me well in this movie, if it had more practical effect it would be better

loading replies

So much fun, loving it.

loading replies

This was alright, it by no way makes up for that crimes against humanity "feminist" Ghostbusters.

loading replies

Had very low expectations. Was better than I was expecting

loading replies

And this is how a legacy sequel should look like, making use of the heritage of the originals and linking the past with the present generation well. +1 for a tribute to Harold Ramis.

loading replies

A great movie that is for fans of the series. While the writing and comedy may not be as strong as the first that does not take away from the fact that this is a fun and amazing film. It gives everyone exactly what they want. A sincere down to earth movie that while has its problems is made for those who love the original. Along with all that I think this is one of the best send offs to a character in any film I've ever seen. Harold Ramiz will always be missed that's why this final appearance of Egon Spengler is something to behold. I hope that this is just the start of a new trend in Hollywood we need more films like this.

loading replies

Hits all the right buttons to pull all the heartstrings.

Long post-credits scene sets up for sequels.

loading replies

Yes its more a less a retread of the first but yes I had a blast. There was a bittersweet moment init that made my eyes well up. The whole audience burst into song at the end AND My three year old kept proclaiming how good the film was. That alone is enough to give an 8 to a nostalgia play

Oh and both the mid-credit scene and the end credit bumper were gold

loading replies

In my opinion, the only real problem with this movie is that it is partly a remake of the first film. Everything else in it is gorgeous.

loading replies

I can’t believe I cried. I did. Damn. So choked up. And Carrie Coon is amazing, but we all know this.

loading replies

Enjoyed it more than the first one.

loading replies

Useless and predictable.
Also: why it's so "dark"? Looks like a filler episode of Stranger Things.

loading replies

They remade Ghostbusters 1 again, and Ghostbusters 2 is just a remake of Ghostbusters 1... so they made the same film a third time lmao

loading replies

Decent movie and a heartfelt tribute to a lost soul that really gets you emotional. If you are a fan of the first TWO (the all female one was a cash grab and must be one of the stupidest movies ever made) then you'll like this. Plenty of times where you just know that a reveal from the original is right around the corner, it's brilliant how they keep stringing you along like that and then when it arrives you want to stand up and cheer. I'll watch this again and again.

loading replies

While the film is not great it is much more watchable than I thought it would be. It relies heavily on nostalgia but in doing so touches just enough right notes to make it a breezy watch.

This was The Force Awakens of Ghostbusters. Incels hate the 2016 reboot but at least they tried something new.

loading replies

Started off slow for me and wasn't impressed but then it gets really good, i enjoyed this one. Hoping for an Afterlife 2.

loading replies

I really liked it :star::star::star:

loading replies

This one was good. I just thought it was okay in the beginning. The third act really brought it home for me. I should have seen it a mile away but I was kinda shocked when the OGs showed up to help out. And that Egon CGI, wow, good stuff.

loading replies

Took me half the movie to realize Pheobe was a female. That's how interesting the movie was;

loading replies

While I have nearly zero attachment to the original (having only watched it fully for the first time this weekend) Afterlife delivers the action, quips and thrills expected of a Ghostbusters flick. It manages to bring something new and contemporary to the table while still treating the original material with respect and care. That, and Jason Reitman knows how to capture unconventional intimate moments and blossoming relationships perfectly. Really enjoyed this one, a rare case of a late sequel not feeling exploitative and with a decent story to tell.

loading replies

ABSOLUTE AND UTTER DOG SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

loading replies

i know it's an absolute sin to watch this without having seen the original. IM SORRY but now i'm super excited to watch it.

i actually really enjoyed this!! i definitely think the first half/more tame stuff was much better and had the adventurous feel- like when they were hunting muncher. but when it got the big crazy stuff with ghoser (gozer? goser? ghoster?) it felt like it was drifting from that.

paul rudd won this hands down. a highlight.

i do wish there was more of the theme incorporated into the soundtrack. i think they were trying to mimic the original soundtrack, but with all the plays they made on the original, it would've made sense for them to incorporate the theme into the orchestration. i love the theme so much.

best part of the movie: finding out in the CREDITS that josh gad was the muncher.

loading replies

"Science is reckless."

I think the film relies heavily on the things we have seen before in the first film, but I really liked the characters and town setting. I don't do spoiler reviews so I can't add too much more other than I did think the soundtrack was awesome and I avoided hearing anything about this movie so it turned out to be delightful.

loading replies

Oh my God this was boring, low stakes jokeless bullshit which is so in love with itself that it doesn't care if the viewer gives a shit. All the talented cast remained underutilized due to a mediocre script and direction. Nothing new! I really really loved the 2016 Ghostbusters, it was goddamn funny at least, if that offends people. But this, this was fubushit.

loading replies

this is a great movie and a true ghostbusters sequel, enjoyed every minute of it. nostalgia plus new lovable characters makes that annoying abomination from 2016 to go down the drain where it should be.

loading replies

Far superior to the 2016 abomination.

It surprisingly lacks a lot of the humor of the original. Although the film is overall well done and enjoyable, it's more of a quirky, surprisingly frightening take on the Ghostbusters franchise, and while it can still be fun and goofy in certain places, the script plays if straight for the most part, respecting the scarier elements of the original.

There's a few timing issues, as well as a severe lack of Paul Rudd. Despite being marketed as a Paul Rudd movie, his character Gary doesn't get as much attention as the kids do. The mother is slightly unlikable and there are some missed opportunities when it comes to interacting with ghosts, and yet the movie likely would have been longer had they gone ahead and done so.

This is really a movie about the young female lead, Phoebe, which was surprising, though not in a bad way. Podcast is the real breakout star, though. He's fantastic.

At the end of the day, they did a good job on this one and I'm pleasantly surprised.

loading replies

damn nostalgia hits you like crazy, btw overall it's good well not that plot rich but it's decent,

loading replies

Now this is the main goal from Cinema to ENTERTAIN, it's was nostalgic, it was like a bridge between the past and the future.
the director Jason Reitman honored his father's work, and never failed me as a viewer, i really really enjoyed it.

loading replies

The nostalgic value of this installment pushed my rating up a bit. This film will really resonate with the people who lived in the 80s and saw the original movies. Going forward, I'm not sure that the IP will appeal enough to the younger generation.

loading replies

Watched it twice. Really enjoyed it both times and the ending got me both times too even though I knew exactly what was coming. A fitting reimagining of the Ghostbusters universe. Just a shame the Statue of Liberty walking didn't merit a mention.

A lot of fan service but it was nicely earned, other than that utterly stupid Walmart scene. Cringeworthy.

loading replies

That film had a heart with a little cheese and it was good to get that ghostbusters feeling again and all the cast were great and that ending was special, The film defo had a shine in it's own way.

loading replies

"Sally Spengler and grandfather's ghost trap"

kiddy remake of the original.

beautiful start, with original score laid on... bit then you realise it's not an homage it's a copy and extend of the original's score .

our hero does nothing wrong, and everytime you see her she's doing something incredibly smart. no issues following Pixar lamp's directions.... her glasses do alter from on her Jose to against her eyes from shot to shot .

takes an hr to get going., all the end stuff is over quickly, with little ghostly action.

a beautiful send off for Harold Ramis, although the CGI for his face is terrible .

loading replies

movie is alright, at least it honors the first movie but its not all that

loading replies

Slow start. Quick finish. Nice touch,

A bit of a nothing burger, it doesn’t really get interesting until the final 20-30 minutes.
There are a few entertaining bits inbetween (e.g. there’s a fun scene with Paul Rudd in a Wallmart), but there’s not nearly enough going on.
It’s just mostly bland: some decent acting and directing, but there’s not a lot of action, mystery, charm, clever comedy, drama or characters to get invested into (besides McKenna Grace).
For example, Finn Wolfhard gets as much development as the older brother from Jurassic World, he’s a teen and he wants to get laid. That’s all you get, and it’s not that interesting.
There are, of course, a lot of ‘member berries, which add nothing besides empty nostalgia.
The original Ghostbusters leave the biggest impression with just 5 minutes of screentime, and they clearly didn’t even give a shit about being there.
It’s not the worst thing ever, but this falls short of the benchmark for this kind of movie.
Just watch the original, or anything directed by Spielberg and Cameron in the 80s/90s.

It lacks character build up or an original story but has plenty of heart and charm. It also has a nice 80’s family movie feel to it. It’s not a spectacular movie but it’s a nice movie.
Yet it still will probably make you wish there was more to it despite being a pretty decent return of the series. That is still at least more like the original than the 2016 movie. Even if it pretty much acts like more didn’t happen after the 1984 incident.
So some fans might not like that it didn’t only erase the 2016 movie but possibly the 1989 sequel as well. Critics who didn’t like it call it too much of a fan service which yeah can be surprisingly disappointing. It however it does still work as a heartfelt Harold Ramis tribute.
Leslie Jones called this movie a dickish move that it was made instead of a sequel to her 2016 movie. However, her movie is a dickish move since it was an unnecessary reboot that made believe the 1984 film never happened. Especially too close to when Harold Ramis just died.

loading replies

I enjoyed this movie way more than I ever expected. The story is told as a direct sequel to the original movie. Ignored the previous sequel and that other all-female spin off. The new cast were awesome.

There’s potential to expand the universe from this movie onwards. Make sure you hang around for the end credit scenes.

loading replies

I really liked this movie. Is emotional, and nice homage to the originals, with some nice cameos (with Rick Moranis would have been perfect in that aspect) and easter eggs. I liked the "new team" if they want to continue that way. Clean and solid. Having seen Matrix yesterday, i can safely say "THIS is how you continue an old story" (and i'm glad they sent the Ghostbuster 2016 movie to obvlion, where it belongs).

loading replies

The waiting is going to be horrible lol

loading replies

An epic amount of fanservice. Very good crafted. LOVE IT.

loading replies

I actually really enjoyed this. This how a nostalgia movie should be. It feels like it can stand alone without the previous movies of it needed to.

Egon was always my favourite and they did a really nice job of honouring him. They were faithful to the original material without retreading the past movies.

Also, the mid/post credit scene was so satisfying.

Recommended.

loading replies

Goonies meets Ghostbusters. Dug it.

loading replies

We really liked it. The way that the movie tied back into the originals was very well done. They had a bit of suspense and a bit of what in the heck just happened at the first of the movie. Then the blanks were filled in as the movie went on. Overall I don't think there were any slow parts of the movie. I'll definitely pick this up when it comes out.

loading replies

Such mixed reviews but The critics mostly hate & the viewers mostly love it. I will rewatx* reqa* rewatch the old N and then go watch this one to give honest opinion. I enjouyed all versions of the Ghostbusters but the original sequence* sequel was weaker. The Ghosbusters 2016 - I did not think od* of as a reboot/sequel just as a paraody of Original hence I enjoyed it too. This one looks quite boring to me via trailers, I assume I will mostly enjoy the Paul Rudd comedic scenes but I will watch with open-mind and give true opinion of whole film next week.

loading replies

If you are excited for a legacy sequel to a movie over 35 years old, I think this movie does its job of bringing in new characters while giving some weight to the OGs. I suppose I can understand people complaining about nostalgia but I’m not sure what you expected going in. We saw what happens when you try to slap the name Ghostbusters on a whatever/bad comedy that has special effects and the results were much worse. This film leans into the Amblin feel as we follow “kids on an adventure” but I think it handles the humor and the supernatural balance as well as a Ghostbusters movie should. And while it gives proper respect to the original Ghostbusters, they let the new characters take center stage. The main criticism I have is the limited scope of the villain selection but I understand the need for shorthand as they are setting up this new world.

loading replies

Just watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021 and it was everything I hoped for! Nostalgic, funny, and full of heart. The perfect blend of old and new.

loading replies

I really liked this for the tension, the comedy, and the nostalgia push. The new cast was alright too, but 50% of this movie was pointless. It was introducing Ghostbusters to all people, from the newer generations to the older generations, so I understood the re-introduction, but it took way too long. Especially as it's near enough the same story as the first. The soundtrack and score were great, the script was fine, the cgi was fine, and the acting was fine. I loved how it showed respect to Harold Ramis and how they used him to carry the torch, I just wish it knew what to expand on though.

loading replies

I saw this when it came out, and I could believe how much I underestimated it. I just saw the Frozen Empire, and as I kept asking who the heck some people were, my Wife pointed out that I seemed to have completely blocked this out, confusing it with the 2016 reboot attempt.

This film was touching, heartwarming, and honestly a beautiful tribute to Harold Ramos (who was a very nice guy, I used to deliver pizza to him in High School and college, as his office was in a very unassuming building in the Chicago Suburbs, he gave me tickets to Analyze That AFTER tipping me, solely because after a number of deliveries I one day told him how much I loved all his movies, whether actor, writer, director, etc., you could feel his magic touch).

Seeing Bill, Dan, Ernie, Annie and then Sigourney for the credits, was just amazing, and the end scene was by-and-far something I could watch and laugh at just seeing Sigourney shock Bill over-and-over, I truly hope there was a little shock to it, not in a painful way, just for fun.

loading replies

A perfect tribute to the franchise and in the same time a respectful show of respects for Harold Ramis. I loved every reference to the older movies and the new cast.

loading replies

Some people complained when this movie came out that it was just fan-service, and while I agree that this is definitely the "Force Awakens" of the Ghostbusters franchise . . . I'm a fan! SERVICE ME DAMMIT! This movie is a non-stop trigger for the nostalgia centers in my brain; the music and sound design are both straight out of the 80's. The child actors are doing extraordinarily well for child actors, the script is funny, the effects are passable, and it pays a lovely homage to the earlier films, even if CGI Spengler slightly overstays his welcome. Not every movie needs to be an "Oppenheimer"; sometimes I just need a fun, nostalgia-driven Ghostbusters sequel to make me happy

loading replies

The problem with Ghostbusters: Afterlife is it depends too much on the original. I appreciate the direction it takes with the characters, setting, and nostalgia, but the story has unforgivable issues. Some scenes are fun, but the franchise deserves better.

loading replies

A pleasant film, with exciting moments and others that are quite fun. Overall, it's an interesting production. My only reservation is the repetition of the villain, but that's the only negative point. It doesn't focus as much on romance, which is a relief considering two other films have already explored this area in depth. By highlighting an excellent character like Sphoebe in the main role, he brings a refreshing air to the plot. In short, it's an excellent film that's definitely worth watching.

loading replies

At last, a 'Ghostbusters' movie I actually, kinda, like.

I will say that even with that being the case, I still didn't overly enjoy it. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but this franchise just never truly delivers for me personally; I don't rate the original two films, the 2016 reboot is one I found to be better but still not good. The whole concept simply doesn't do anything for me, for some reason.

The reason I did just narrowly enjoy this one more is the cast, to be honest. I have similar feelings about everything else here as I do for those aforementioned past instalments, but those onscreen are real positives... well, at least a few of 'em.

Mckenna Grace and Logan Kim are the best things about 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife', for my money. Grace portrays her "nerdy" character supremely well, while Kim is amusing; his comedic delivery is absolutely spot on, especially whilst we are introduced to his character at the beginning. The others are alright, whilst it's pleasant to see cameos from the past.

The Mini-Pufts are cute, at least. Here's hoping I'll like 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' more when that comes out in a few months.

loading replies

It was purely made for the fans of the franchise and I had a fun time with it. I will also say that Sigourney Weaver has aged much better than the guys from the original film.

loading replies

I expected worse than I got; this felt like an actual Ghostbusters movie, instead of just a lazy rehash. There was a good feel to the movie from the start, some good characters, plenty enough of Easter eggs for us old fogies to notice and about the correct amount of depth to the story.

I wasn't enamored with the ending, but then again, I feel like this came off as more of an introductory movie into the franchise for the next generation, so I can understand there being a few limitations. Given how good the trailer for the next Ghostbusters movie looks, this movie was exactly in the right place.

loading replies

From director Jason Reitman comes Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the sequel that fans have been waiting for. After moving to their late grandfather’s farmhouse, Phoebe and her brother discover that he was one of the Ghostbusters who saved New York City back in the ‘80s and that he had been trying to stop the return of Gozer; who’s attempting to rise from an underground temple. Starring Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, the film has a pretty solid cast; Grace is especially good, and carries a lot of the emotional weight. However, the writing’s a little weak; recycling the Gozer plot from the original film and creating a convoluted backstory for the family. Still, it does a nice job at working with and expanding the Ghostbusters mythos and at honoring the property. And, a lot of the jokes work rather well and the action is fun and exciting. While it may be a little too fan-servicey in parts, overall Ghostbusters: Afterlife is an entertaining film.
