Genie 2023

I liked this a lot has some great charm and fish out of water moments. The emotional bits hit for me. Put me in the festive spirit!

I have never seen a movie with the least amount of chemistry between the cast members. Too bad, it could have been a good movie.

Melissa McCarthy's recent movies typically don't resonate with me, but "Genie" pleasantly surprised me. This charming Christmas film, a remake of the British film "Bernard and the Genie," featuring Lenny Henry and Alan Cummings, brought humor and warmth to the holiday season. McCarthy's performance was delightful and funny, making this movie an enjoyable and fun watch.

For a Christmas movie I didn’t hate it but It wasn’t good.
Main character was meh, Melissa McCarthy was too much at the beginning but alright towards the end. Pacing too slow and the plot predictable.

A good Christmas comedy, with added fantasy.

'Genie' is, admittedly, not a massively Christmassy film, it's more so set at Xmas rather than directly about the festive holiday. It still offers positive vibes in that regard, though. The story is told and paced well, I thought it'd be more generic than it is - it's not anything necessarily unique, but watchable it is. It has hints of 'Aladdin', obvs, and 'Bruce Almighty'.

Melissa McCarthy is well chosen for the titular role, I found her to be entertaining throughout. This is the first time I've seen Paapa Essiedu act and I'd saw his performance in this is solid, he gives enough. Luis Guzmán is the best of the rest, even via a relatively small showing.

Interesting that this is a remake of a 1991 television flick, which also had Richard Curtis behind the scenes and Alan Cumming onscreen; as Bernard in fact, so quite cool to see him return in this in a different role. I'll have to give that original a watch some day.

Definitely predictable, and probably would have been a good Christmas Hallmark Movie. Acting was horrible and there was no chemistry between the two main actors.

Melissa McCarthy is capable of making some good, funny movies. This sadly isn’t one them. The humour is very limp and there is zero depth to any of the characters and nothing by way of personality. A movie that I would class as a total waste of time.

This isn't too bad of a Christmas flick, especially by today's standards. It's definitely one of the better McCarthy flicks in a while. Sure, it's predictable but it's charming enough. Easy watching.

An enjoyable holiday watch, but with little to no stakes or deep messaging the overall effect kinda falls flat,,, great anti-anxiety watch tho lol

Your typical 'feel-good-everything-works-out' Christmas movie. What's not to like. Turns out, not much! Really enjoyed this and drills the Christmas message home. Melissa McCarthy on top form, and i can see a sequel in the making!

Wow. Someone really loves tilt-shift cinematography.

As usual, the cute movies with black leads get lower scores than they should. This was charming, feel good, and all about the true Christmas spirit. It starts almost with a Dickens Scrooge event but doesn't follow the Scrooge story(thankfully, it's overdone). Instead it twists a bit and comes full circle and still ends with the happy Christmas ending.

I gave it a 9. There were a couple places it went a little hokey pokey, but it's a Christmas movie. Isn't that their charm?

Better than expected comedy is predictable but enjoyable.

Melissa has Mrs. Claus and he was kidnapped or something by the grinch, all the gifts were torched. Then, she goes kick ass, get him back, lead an army of elves to save xmas and all of this fatman style or like that badass david harbour-santa movie.
I think all that goofie thing is over now. I wanna see her kick ass.

Melissa, Millissa, Melissa. I am on your side, but please choose better movies. There is a movie out there for you, you just have not found it yet. Just stop picking these crappy movies!

It wont hold your attention pretty slow and bleak good luck.

I was a bit disappointed by the casting choice for the lead actor. But Malissa McCarthy did an excellent job.
