Decent movie, the middle was okay. The start gave pissed me off due to the fact they edited in frame rate issues and the ending was meh.

Gamer is a 2009 science fiction action film set in the near future where nanotechnology exists (Nanex) that allows people to submit to being controlled by other people. In essence people become the flesh and blood avatars for their remote masters; a next level take on what it means to be a gamer.
The movie stars Gerald Butler as Kable who plays as a military veteran and prisoner on death row who plays in a ‘real life Shooter’ called Slayers. If Kable’s master, Simon, can guide and control Kable through Slayers to survive 30 matches, Kable earns back his freedom. The film begins with him earning his 27th consecutive victory. Michael C. Hall plays as Ken Castle… the oligarch who invented Nanex who seems to have more sinister motives than just breaking new ground in game design.
Gamer was helmed by writer/director duo Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine whose previous works include the Crank series of films and ‘Pathology’. While I’ve never seen the Crank movies I have seen Pathology which, spoiler alert, is a fantastic movie. So from that alone I know this duo can produce some stellar cinema.
So how did ‘Gamer’ fare during its reviews?
Gamer is rated at 5.8 out of 10 on IMDB, 4.8 out of 10 on Metacritic, and 39% out of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. With a budget of $50m it has earned about $45m globally.

This was a really interesting movie. The plot was unique and interesting, with a decent cast. The CGI is quite impressive given the films age and still stands up well. If you like mindless explosions, this is a good film to watch. Unfortunately, it feels rushed towards the end - but still manages to deliver enough action and plot even given its short runtime.
This is without doubt a modern day action movie with hints of the 80' and 90's classics. If you like action and something new go and see this you wont be disappointed.
Life is too short to waste time watching movies like this where I end up angry at myself for soldiering through it. A fantastic idea transformed into pure meh. 4 hearts is me being generous, because the actor playing Kable wasn't all that terrible, and some of the action scenes were impressive.
I watched this one for Butler alone ... and was disappointed even then!
Neveldine-Taylor delivered yet again a stylistically fantastic, pseudo B-movie production. Nice "scifi" concepts, that ironicallyn might have felt more dated and out of place on release than they do now. I wouldn't call it a good story, but it's interesting and entertaining enough to follow it through the action til the end.
I thought this movie was fair. It had the music and the action and the dramatic effects that was intense throughout the movie, but towards the end was a little boring.
The idea is interesting for sure, but the editing is a nightmare, seriously. Whoever did the editing should be sent to a distant island for good.
The word Disgusting five times.
ngl, this movie sucks, think of it like The Running Man but no where near as good.
"You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the discover channel"
putrid
just in the right ways
It's like the cameras were attached to hyperactive dogs that were chasing their own tails. Incredibly sickening cinematography, almost vertigo inducing. One of the worst big budget movies I've ever seen. One of the characters literally says, "We live in a society" like, bruh, c'mon...
A good concept, much like :The Running Man" & "Condemned". Disappointing. I expected more and got too many neon flashing lights and screens making it hard to watch. Also some of the sexual scenes were a bit too much. Near the end of the movie picked up.
1.4 points -> Cinematography (0-3)
1.2 points -> Acting and Characters (0-2)
1.8 points -> Plot (0-3)
0.5 points -> Score (0-1)
0.6 -> enjoyed the movie. (0-1)
Aka. 5.5 points
"In the future"
Perhaps the idea was even good, only that it was poorly presented (cheap special effects) and in terms of an action movie, it leaves something to be desired.
I don't think it worked at all
I liked the first part very much. It showed a very disturbing possible future for mankind (of course in an exaggerated way): I'm not so sure if the rich part of mankind would not greatly enjoy the concept of Society or even Slayers.
However, the the second part was too very inventive and the ending overly simplistic. But all in all gamer is an entertaining if brutal flick that never gets boring because of the fast pacing plot and the huge amount of action scenes.
fun movie, aktion surealistic, definatly from neveldine/taylor. has crank written over it. but wit a slightly serious overtone. fun seeing michael c hall (dexter) as castle "the bad guy".
