From Beyond 1986

A favorite from my childhood that I completely forgot about... worth the watch if only for the body horror and Barbara in leather

One of the most underrated and unknown horror films ever made. With just a B-movie budget, this bizarre freak fest has some great acting from Jeffrey Combs, who played this role with an uncommon seriousness. A remake seems like a good idea with modern effects and so forth—but Comb’s performance and the weirdness of Ted Sorel (Dr. Edward Pretorious) would be impossible to top. A must see for any serious horror fan.

A campy classic with a real horrific edge at time. A blend of classical horror and 80 horror style. Cool effects, mostly.. Interesting story idea. Characters do the job of filling the story. Actors were good. Looks really good

Like me when people tell me to be cool or even to chill: I'm not a fan.

A libertine scientist uncovers the secret of making the pineal gland grow out of your forehead like a pencil penis and kill people.

Every Lovecraft movie I've seen is so ridiculously over the top that I'm 100% sure I don't want to read any of his books.

All the stars I have for this flick go to the stupendous practical effects and the strikingly beautiful, unequivocal talent of Barbara Crampton.

you just don't get films like this anymore

I don't know if I have the nerves to watch the rest of the film, but the opening scene was a must-watch, and I just like weird stuff, but I'm not really what you'd call a horror movie fan. Cc what Bobby said about the performances, but also a nod to Bunny Summers for completing the formula and making the scene an absolute riot. Combs looks very picture of abject terror. The copy I'm watching also seems to have done a full quality remaster on the first scene, but immediately drops in quality right after.

From Beyond was a treat the first time I watched it, and now... In 4K... It's even more of a treat. I mean, Barbara Crampton in all her sexy glory in 4K?!!? I would have given my left nut for that back when I was a kid.

(Mostly) Kidding aside, From Beyond is a rather good time. A lovecraftian creature feature with body horror and great practical effects... and Barbara Crampton? Sign me up any day. It is, however, not as good as the Stuart Gordon directed Lovecraft story Re-Animator. It lacks some of the humour, and it's by no means as smart, but despite this, I love From Beyond, and if you want to watch this, be sure to get the Vinegar Syndrome 4K release. Well worth the money.
