My 12 year old son and his buddies liked it. Not too scary but scary enough to make them feel badass for watching a horror movie. I liked the robot animals. They were cute and kudus for being successful making their simplistic faces expressive. The beginning was a little slow and I slept through part of it (my fault for being a lil hungover) but the parts I did see were pretty good. Definitely over average for a kid friendly scary movie.
First I've not played the games so this review is purely on the movie!
Throughout watching this I thought I was just watching a copy of Willy's Wonderland!! However the key difference is that while I enjoyed Josh in Future Man I don't find him very charismatic and in this movie he was always just low key miserable and seemed like he was barely interested to be there, maybe that's the character but I didn't find the performance great. Then when you put this against Willy's Wonderland with a VERY similar plot but has Nic Cage brutally fighting possessed animatronic robot creatures this just falls flat.
Elizabeth Lail was also equally quite flat and boring so combined these characters were just not fun for me. I had a lot more fun watching Matthew Lillard in the movie who gave a great performance but other than that no so much. I just found this slow and boring and while willy's wonderland isn't a masterpiece and Nic being a mute was strange it's better to me in pretty much every way. Strange movie!
I saw this one with my son. I only knew the robots were evil. My son know a lot about the story and apparently a lot of other kids too. There were mostly 12 to 15 year old fans at the theater. I have to say that the story is a lot darker than I had imagined. It amazes me that this kids are so young yet so invested in this twisted and dark themes. I saw kids as little as 8year old who knew tbe story cheered in the significant moments.
Over all it’s not a scary movie, I don’t think it’s supposed to be very scary, it’s the themes that are way darker for children to be obsessed with.
It took 8 years to do... this?!
It goes for scary instead of fun most of the time and that just doesn't work at all. I mean it could have worked if it was actually scary but it's a failed attempt. And really, who could ever be scared of these cute cuddly furry animatronics... it DEMANDS to be fun and campy. Willy's Wonderland and The Banana Splits Movie both understood that. There are some fun moments sprinkled throughout but there wasn't nearly enough of them for the long runtime, it needed way more crazy animatronic moments. It's mostly just a drama.
I was mildly invested in the mystery and characters but the twist is predictable within the first 15 minutes, they make it so damn obvious and there's a very limited number of characters. Story is full of plot holes. Just because your source material is known for having a convoluted story doesn't mean you get a free pass to do a convoluted story, they had 8 years to make it better—it was awful!
Acting ranges from ordinary to good, generic dialogue and the camera cuts away at every kill (PG-13). I'm not a fan of jumpscares in general but this is an occasion where they needed them (the games are huge on them)... hardly any here, sadly.
The biggest praise I could give it is the animatronics look freakin amazing! Great design. Whenever they're on-screen, which is rare, I was fully captivated. The Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria set was kinda perfect. I also liked the brother sister dynamics it was the heart of the movie.
As a fan from the original games, I was so happy that a movie is coming out.
And from blumhouse? hell yeah
The amout of the already existing lore is incredible so they have a lot to work with.
But what did they do? Mixed it up for no reason, created new characters in-movie only...
My main issue is the huge focus on Mikes dreams. I saw no point in that drama of him getting over his past trauma and realizing that the present and his sister is more important. That's simply not what I came for in this movie. That connection to Afton who took his btother and convos with the kids felt small in comparison to how much of the movie was spant in his dream.
I'm a sucker for practical effects so I like that the animatronics were real and not CGI but something felt off about them, and not in the good way. I can't place my finger on it but they felt pasted on the frame. Maybe it's the lightning.
Matthew Lillard is an icon and I enjoyed his moments.
Overall - the movie was boring, the dialogue was mediocre with bad delivery.
If MatPats "it's just a theory" had a better delivery in his 3 lines moment, you're in trouble.
Great movie, who says otherwise, is a bit silly
I really liked it, but I'm heavily biased. You could tell Scott Cawthon had oversight over everything that happened in this film and the story is very faithful to the games, just altered for a new audience. If you've played the games or are very familiar with them, you will most likely enjoy this film, like I did. If you're not familiar with the games, I can understand if you are left confused and possibly disinterested and that's okay, it's not going to be for everyone.
I will admit that the acting was hit or miss. Josh Hutcherson and Piper Rubio did a great job as their respective characters throughout the film, though it was a little iffy at the very end. Matthew Lillard was just okay, but I can see how Afton would be a difficult character to act. Elizabeth Lail's performance as Vanessa was honestly not very convincing to me, but to be honest her character isn't even that fleshed out in the games either, so maybe there wasn't much to work off of.
The production and set/costume design was really great in my opinion and should be appreciated. They really made the world of Freddy's feel realistic and dynamic. I also loved the cameo appearances!
A little more fun for fans of the series, if you're not a fan it won't be much more than just an average tame horror movie.
Five Nights at Freddy's, a film adaptation of the popular video game series, attempts to bring the eerie animatronic world to life. While it effectively captures the nostalgia of '80s pizza restaurants with its detailed set design and animatronics, it falls short in delivering genuine scares. For someone unfamiliar with the source material, the film offers an intriguing mystery subplot involving a past kidnapping, providing depth to the characters.
However, the horror elements fail to elicit fear, making it more suitable for a younger audience. As an older viewer who remembers Chuck E. Cheese fondly, the film's attempts at fright missed the mark. The hype surrounding it may have set expectations too high. Overall, Five Nights at Freddy's is a serviceable film that caters to its target audience but falls short for those seeking a genuinely chilling experience. If you're a fan of the games, it's worth a watch, but don't expect to be too scared.
It was bad. why did fixy not run on cams :disappointed: why isnt mike williams son. where is phone guy. sprintlock scene bad why didnt he scream. why are they besties with abby. why does abby exist shes really annoying
The scariest part of this movie was when that woman said "Everything's better swimming in ketchup."
I know the lore so I was excited for the movie.
I've been waiting for this movie for a few years now!
Sadly enough, it is disappointing.
To start with something positive... The animatronics look incredible!
The character models of Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy look absolutely AMAZING. They are SPOT ON!
But the script, the dialogue, the acting are just mediocre.
The movie isn't scary and it all wasn't as dark as I hoped it would be.
It could have been so much better!
And after YEARS of working on this movie it's sad to see that this is the outcome...
First week of January type of bad, the kind of film that could potentially become a cult classic due to moments of unintentional camp merit (though I kinda doubt that because of how excruciatingly boring the rest of it is). The writing is some of the dumbest, convoluted nonsense I've seen in a while. The horror elements are also very tame, it's just so afraid to push any button. I get that you can't go too hard with a baby movie, but there are individual sequences in non-horror properties like Indiana Jones and Harry Potter that are more likely to scare a kid (or man child g4m3rs for that matter, I'm not entirely sure who this was made for). The technical aspects, in particular the editing, feel mostly unprofessional. Even Josh Hutcherson, who by all accounts should be the main bright spot in this movie, stands no chance with the given direction and dialogue.
1/10
As someone who works with kids, everything I know about FNAF is against my own will.
The movie was silly. When it tried to be scary it was laugh at loud funny.
It was both too fast and too slow. Clearly I am not the indended audience - which makes sense.
BUT. Matthew Lillard. :clap_tone1::clap_tone1::clap_tone1::clap_tone1: He is so underrated. What a brilliant actor. Love him.
Disclaimer: I have never played these games, nor was I familiar with the franchise in any way going into the movie.
That being said - I just really don’t understand the bad rap this movie is getting! I overall enjoyed this movie for what it was: a relatively engaging PG-13 adaptation of a camp horror franchise.
I think we’re all familiar, at least, with the premise: a security officer working at a not-quite-Chucky-Cheese has to deal with the animatronics coming to life and becoming murderous machines. Succinct and self-contained. What I actually think this movie does well is delving into the lore behind WHY this is happening (which a quick search tells me has basis in the third game in the series). I initially thought this movie was taking itself way too seriously in a few moments, but given the background here, the tone is appropriately heavy at times. This stuff gets DARK and involves kidnapped and murdered children.
The family drama plot that this movie grows out of actually worked pretty well for me. I think it dovetails with the existing “dead kids possessing animatronics” story. Sure, it’s not Shakespeare, but it doesn’t need to be. What I take issue with is some of the stuff that isn’t explained or addressed whatsoever. How did Mike end up with sole custody of his sister? What happened to their parents? (SPOILER: Why did the police officer help her father whatsoever?)
A complaint I’ve seen a lot of is about the level of gore, and I gotta say, I actually think it’s appropriate. Not every horror movie needs to be a hack-and-slash phantasmagoria of blood and guts. There’s just enough here to make you uncomfortable while also staying at the “camp” horror level.
In the end, we can say what we want, but this movie was made for a certain demographic that’s going to eat it up: teenagers with nothing better to do this Hallo-weekend that can’t get into rated-R films yet.
(I chose to watch it at home on Peacock for that very reason.)
a little underwhelming . the animatronics are beautiful and the sets are absolutely amazing ! but the plot is a little mediocre
This story could have worked just as well in the hands of Tim Burton.. instead of Scott Cawthon.
"Five Nights at Freddy's" is a slow-paced horror film that offers a dull story and little to none of the terror that a film of this genre should provide.
The Animatronics were beautiful, but that's it. For a film almost a decade in the making, it disappoints. It has more plot holes than Swiss cheese.
Of course fans of the game will love this film. It's very faithful and has a lot of Easter eggs. It's not very scary, except for a few scares.
Anyway, if you are a casual viewer you will not like this film.
If you're more of a FNAF player, this is much oriented to you, rather than coming in as a movie only person. It's alright, tries it's best to stick to the source material. But it has it's own his hits and misses, and oof moments. Could've been better, more scarier but it's also not bad. Somewhere in the middle.
I'm 36, and while I'm too much of a weenie to have made it past night 3 in the first game, watching others (particularly Markiplier) play through the series is what got me into watching let's players on Youtube. I thought this movie was great! Was it a good movie? Nothing to write home about; the animatronics were fantastic, the sound design was good, Matthew Lillard is a gift, but otherwise it was sort of middle of the road. But I had a great time watching it. I laughed a lot, I pointed wildly at the screen so my cat could see the easter eggs, and near the end when Afton took off the mask I did a big Super Bowl touchdown reaction. I'm gonna make my mom watch it, because it's something connected to a thing I'm very much interested in, so I want to share it with her, and it's not anywhere near scary enough to get to her (she's very, very bad with being startled, and I didn't find that much of anything besides the three Balloon Boy jumps were actually startling).
This one was better than I expected and had an almost 80s feel-good horror vibe akin to Gremlins.
Nope. It's barely entertaining. The plot is ridiculous, the dialogues abysmal, and feels very disjointed, like a different director jumped in for every different scene.
Watch Willy's Wonderland instead. Sillier and way better. Nicholas Cage as a silent protagonist is the best thing you'll ever see.
I thought it was funny, and enjoyed it a lot! Didn’t have any previous knowledge about the game, but my boyfriend did and he enjoyed it a lot too. Go into it with no expectations and you’ll probably like it! Don’t get why there’s so much hate. PS lotsa jump scares if you’re into that. I was at the edge of my seat for a long time.
It definitely did not live up to the expectations I had. For a game, where failure means many jump scares, there is a surprising lack of them. I think also, there could have been more game influence, like switching through cameras or closing doors, whatever. Where is my sense of DREAD??
That said, my expectations aside, I liked it, and thought it did a great job with what it had. The human characters were okay, but the animatronic suits were absolutely incredible and I'm so glad they didn't go with CGI. There's a weird section of the movie in the middle that I didn't like but ended up kind of liking? The plot is okay? Resolution good?
There's just nothing SUPER offensive about the movie, and it was fun to watch with a group of friends who all have played at least the first few games. Hard to recommend because I know what fan-base we're dealing with, but nonetheless I'd say it gets my recommendation for your watch.
I would say given that this movie was a pg-13 rated. I had my mind about the movie being tone down for the scenes they are going to portray into the movie such as from the game. but the movie is wasn't bad it has their own direction and the character was little confusing on how it was placed but overall not a bad movie
Five nights of boredom.
The kids (8&9) mostly enjoyed it. (which is why I've given it more than 1*)
Mainly because they spent the entire movie talking about each animatronics' lore they know from all the YouTube they've consumed.
I really enjoyed this one, good fun throughout with a nice twist (not unexpected but nice nonetheless) and the animatronics are just adorable. It's good to see they didn't dull down the child killer premise. I'm not overly familiar with the lore, but my son is and I know a bit from him. He enjoyed it too, solid movie.
I remember FNAF when I was in High School, so this was dope to see they made a Live Action Movie..Watched it at Home with my Daughters 6 & 7..They weren’t scared at all, they were actually excited to see Freddy & Gang when they showed up on Screen (My 7 Year Old was Actually Bonnie for Halloween), So they were excited to see this one too also..It seem like a typical Horror Movie nothing to over the top..The Animatronics looked good exactly like Freddy and The Gang..Was a Good Watch and Kids Loved it..
Went into this one completely blind. Zero familiarity with the games and lore. Overall, I found it to be a serviceable light-horror, that hangs its hat on strong production design and creepy visuals, while generally missing the mark in terms of dialogue/characters. I've always had a soft spot for Josh Hutcherson (shout out to Future Man), and I think he does an admirable job making the less-than-stellar material work. I even liked some of the ideas being explored (e.g., dream therapy). But the overall story felt pretty undercooked in the end. Things move quick, which helps to mask a narrative that doesn't always hold up to scrutiny. All that said, making a video game movie that the fans love is a rare accomplishment, so props to the creators for that. Unfortunately, I don't expect the film to win many new fans.
Meh.
Everyone says this movie was terrible. I went there with this mindset and while it was hard to love, it's really hard to hate it.
I was actually very surprised by the violence in some really well made scenes. I was ready to have everything happen off screen but instead they did have quite some balls. Not to mention how GOOD the animatronics look.
BUT the narration is where this movie gets lost, as it's very predictable and at times boring. Overall, it's not a terrible movie, it kept me glued the entire time, but this is no masterpiece.
I've only played FNAF 1 and 3, never managing to finish them (I didn't even know what I had to do). Back in the day, I also missed out on watching YouTube gameplays and exploring the lore.
With my limited exposure to the game and its background, I entered the FNAF movie with really low expectations, given all the negative reviews. However, surprisingly, I found myself genuinely engrossed in the plot and enjoying the movie more than I initially anticipated.
Just to FNAF Community, we knew how this movie will going. You can't blame the movie cuz its not canonical,it's for all people to make them interest in FNAF,cheer up movie rather than blame cuz it will be next 10years without anything, but we don't want to,right? ;)
Movie was OK,just to go with girl/friends/family. Finally after all that years of awaiting we got movie that lore fans wanted to. Hope everyone had good time watching it,
Best Regards, NIGHTZNERO.
Definitely better than I expected. Movie is more for the fans. My buddy enjoyed it better than I did — but he’s a big fan of the franchise. More thriller and suspenseful than horror in my opinion.
I expected more horror scenes or something more macabre. But overall the film is interesting...
Ridiculous story about toy animal robots that come to life and kill people in a kids amusement hall. I understand it to be based on a video game that’s popular in the USA. Although crazy as it may seem, it was actually an enjoyable watch. In regards to being a horror, it wasn’t scary and very tame.
Perhaps I'm missing something, as I've never played the video game(s) that this is based on. But for me, the plot was far too ludicrous, the script far too nonsensical and the scares far too predictable. Its only saving grace is the cast, who take their roles more seriously than I can take this film.
Quite good as a Five Nights movie despite some liberties taken with the series lore. However, as a horror movie it is mediocre at best. No doubt some of this is necessary to keep it PG-13.
Someone who has some experience with playing the games or watching YouTube personalities play it will have an absolute blast, everyone else is in for an entertaining, if formulaic time.
I read FNAF was a thing mainly in the US. That's why I probably never heard of or played the games.
So, the movie huh? I'm too old for it I guess
U know what? It was a decent film all things considered. It definitely could’ve been scarier but for long time fans, we just wanted the damn movie. We knew it wasn’t going to blow minds, so no disappointment there, we’re just happy the movie is finally here. And the animatronics are looking hella incredible man! Other than the red eyes bit (yes I’m still spiteful) the lot looked wayyy too good and the actors did such splendid job! The franchise hasn’t been here as long as some other game movies, and everyone is just as unsure as Scott himself as to how to truly represent fnaf in movie form, and that’s fine. The job they did, it could’ve had some improvement, but it definitely was a job well done.
So, a good movie to watch to pass the time and maybe even rewatch, but may not be ur cup of tea if ur not a fan of the franchise to begin with.
7/10!
8.0 / 10
Five Night’s at Freddy’s isn't here to reinvent the wheel, but what it is here to do is to help Universal stay ahead with the soon to arrive Video Game Adaptation era of Hollywood (it’s coming!) , with a genuinely haunting story (that we unfortunately don’t get much of in this particular film until the third act) this could go on to be a very surprising sleeper hit franchise.
There were certainly moments where it felt like it was a bit of a slog, overall however if you are a fan of the games or just of the story and lore as I am, I think you’ll have a frighteningly good time.
Definitely a perfect Halloween watch if you have any younger teens who you want to watch a horror movie with, without the excessive gore, nudity or jump scares.
A very solid effort, 8/10 I hope we get sequels where they can really begin to get into the nitty gritty details of the genuinely chilling and distressing story.
For absolutely NO REASON you should watch that. No reason at all. Rate 2/10
I very enjoyable FNAF movie that does a pretty good job with presenting a different take on the FNAF lore. I will say if you don't know anything, you won't enjoy it as much.
Only in movies are female cops pretty, friendly and flirty. I never was interested in the video game franchise, should've stayed away from the movie as well. Kiddie/pg-13 horror isn't for me. I prefer my horror to be bloody as hell.
As someone who hates horror movies and hasn't played the game, this was a ton of fun.
The bunny surviving in the end kinda ruined the sense of closure. But I suppose they have to set up a sequel.
This really wasn't that good.
Utter confusion. This film took a turn I wasn’t expecting. Maybe because I’ve never played the game. But Jesus Christ it was a stretch of the imagination to understand what the heck was going on. Ghost children possessing animatronics and killing people because they were murdered…..yeah makes perfect sense
Could have been better but I wasn't expecting anything great. It wears five nights at freddy's corpse mask well enough to feel like FNAF.
For early teens : 7/10
For adults : 5/10
It's a pretty good early entry point in horror for children. I know I'd have liked it if I was a kid.
Testing optimistic updates. Will delete after test is complete.
family enjoyed it made me feel old seeing stu mocker with Grey hair lol
This movie is way better for fans of the game.
However, if you're not a fan of the games or unaware of the lore, the movie doesn't help you at all.
There are no words that can be used to describe the feelings I have after watching almost all of this flick. Time I will never ever get back again.
i get why the movie's pg-13; even if the game wasn't geared at a younger audience, it still became massively popular with them. i've never played the games but i really like watching letsplays by content creators i follow and this movie was entertaining and fun by those standards. it definitely wasn't at all scary and was very light on jump scares, but it was decently acted (unsure why anyone says it wasn't, matthew lillard's in it come ON) and the story kept me engaged. i liked the cameos and man the best choice they made was having the animatronics be real puppets and not cgi. i wish more movies would use practical effects tbh.
the sticking points for me are really small and probably dumb to the average viewer but i've always resented the way that people treat prescription medication in movies and tv. it's reckless and maliciously ignorant sometimes and perpetuates a lot of stupid misinformation about mental health. and it's happened in this movie (a character just throwing someone's sleeping pills into a lake - but whatever maybe in 2000 it was easier to get an early refill on an rx) and another one in 2022 (portraying a daily antidepressant as something you can pop casually whenever you need it) so it's clearly a problem that's still alive and well. also that pharmacist should be fired
Was alright. It makes sense that the movie's different from the games. Because for people that know the games story, there's no point in watching the movie if it's telling everything 100% the same again but as a movie. It would do better if it went full horror. Fnaf's closer to movies like Saw lol.
So much potential. Great CG and plot. execution was terrible. Not worth the watch. You'll be let down
It's already hard to adapt a video game to a movie. It could have been nice, but it sucks ass.
Don’t know anything about the games but the movie doesn’t make me feel as if I’m missing anything. It’s pretty meh from start to finish.
Unlike the game, where the game is really scary. Just seeing the dolls move from place to place will make us anxious. And the film doesn't succeed in conveying that essence. Indeed, you can still feel the spooky impression just by looking at the dolls, but when they do the action, it doesn't feel like that at all. There is no element of surprise. Maybe those of you who haven't played the game will feel scary and anxious, but for those who have played it doesn't feel like that at all.
The script focuses too much on Mike's drama in his life's struggles so that the horror is forgotten. And the "drama" kills the story, it's so boring and flat.
Horrible film , will not watch again
I liked the spooky atmosphere of the location, but apart from that, I wasn’t impressed.
Cheap jump scares were heavily relied upon and the plot was incredibly weak.
I regret going to the cinema for this one, it didn’t justify it; a home showing would’ve been better value.
the fuck did I just watch? horror? more like comedy
This movie was made for kids that like the FNAF series cause this one fell flat. bad acting, terrible rushed and crammed plot. Obvious cash grab.
This movie is so childish
Perfect to watch with friends if you want a good laugh. Not quite what the movie wanted to achive tho
Josh Hutcherson made this movie
Never played the games or read any of the books. Niece loves this stuff. This movie is weird in that it's not for adults as it's a bit tame and lame, but it's also not for children. I suppose those in the 13-16 age group may like it. Had a few moments here and there, but the neverending dream sequences grew stale. Generous 5.1 I'd say.
Like Chuck E Cheese pizza: flat, stale, and messy.
This rehash of Willy's Wonderland probably makes more sense as a video game than it does as a decently produced horror wannabe.
Don't waste your time on this. Watch the Nick Cage version: willys wonderland or something, I can't remember its name but it is better than this crap
Wiily's wonderland, 100 times better than this mideocrity...
Can’t have shit in Detroit
This looks like Willy's Wonderland with Nicolas Cage.
If you took a classic movie series like "A Nightmare On Elm Street" or "Friday The 13th", then, took ALL the suspense and the gore out of them, you would have a pretty good facsimile of the snooze fest that is "Five Nights at Freddy's". It's like the producers weren't quite sure what they wanted to do with the property, if they were targeting the usual Y/A Horror fan, or, pre adolescent "Chuck E Cheese" patrons, so, they tried to straddle the line and ended up taking a swing and a miss. Josh Hutcherson does the best he can with what he has to work with, but, unlike my other faves such as "Zathura", there's just no THERE there.
Cute kid Piper Rubio is at first equal parts irritating yet slightly creepy, then pivots 180 degrees and suddenly doesn't want to play with her new "friends" anymore. I guess having robo-toys that want to go "veg-O-matic" on your bod and stuff you in a life size Animaniac (ESPECIALLY without a "pay for play contract) just ain't all it's cracked up to be. Meanwhile, Ghost Kid Grant Feely gamely tries to BE creepy, but somehow falls woefully short. Toward the end, I wonder if "Stu's" Mom and Dad are still gonna be mad at him? Mary Stuart Masterson phones in the "evil Aunt trying to break up the family" role, while Elizabeth Lail plays the dutiful daughter who finally has second thoughts about assisting in the familial psychosis. Rounding out the cast, Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dumb, Tweedle Dumber, and their manager(?), Max, provide the num nums, for the ani meat mincers.
As others have commented, the F/X dept did the robo-psychos top notch, but, the rest of the movie is just, "meh". Not horrible, but nothing to right home about unless you're a big fan of the video game.
It ends up being much less anarchic than it should have been and, despite the references that can be guessed to the traditional horror fantasies of the eighties, the current perspective of focusing on personal traumas instead of the pure entertainment of massacres and murders end up making it particularly boring. There is poor use of suspense in some important scenes and it is less enjoyable than one might expect, although the retro design of the main stage has particularly fine details.
:heart:x6
This was not very exciting. There was nothing scary, or bloody or horrifying here. It was more like teddy bears gone bad for a bit then come back to their senses.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
alright i’ll admit it i laughed
I went in not knowing anything about the property outside of it being a spooky Chuck E Cheese. I came out thinking it delivered some decent gateway horror. I’m not sure if the story is true to the lore but it felt like something I would have loved as a kid, really surprised at some of the negative feedback.
If you do not know much about the lore of the games you WILL not like it
Nice easy watch. Some scary moments. Not horry, but worth a watch. :thumbsup_tone1:
It's ok. Not really scary at all, but watchable.
As a horror movie, it's pretty lackluster. But as an adaptation of the game, it's adequate. I believe this is because everyone and their mom knows that kids are going to watch this. The little girl sitting next to me with her dad was absolutely rambling off all the FNAF story points but once it got scary she wanted to go home, bless her heart. So, it's good.
I thought it was bad, I think it could have been better
6/10
Movie critics mentioned how scare-free this horror movie is they are absolutely right! It's all jump scares with giant robot bears popping out of nowhere and that's it! You don't even see them attacking expect for most of the time.
Maybe it's fun for gamers to see a video game they played being adapted for the screen, but for the rest of us, it's just boring.
Five Nights at Freddy’s feels too much like it wants to be the Black Prone “also by Blumhouse.”
With the missing kids subplot and all the dreams about missing kids. This movie didn’t need so much of that.
A movie about killer robots at a Chuck E. Cheese like place. Should have been more B-Movie Killer Klowns like fun.
The movie needed some creative and funny kills rather than cutting away from them all. Who knows, maybe it will get a more violent directors cut, like M3gan.
Though even if it was more violent. The movie is neither scary or funny enough. I never played the games but they strike me as something that wouldn’t take themselves this seriously.
When the movie finally gets more interesting, it is almost over.
Amazing animatronics, all the rest is a disaster. An adult story, with adult stories plot moments that either bores or blocks the kids from going, while it does not have the intensity on the horror an adult would like. Result, a total flop
one of if not the best video game movie ever
-new and interesting story (copy and paste from the lore would have been trash ngl)
-amazing effects
-Fan service galore
good movie but Willie's wonderland is 10x better and so is about 10 other movies with the exact same concept
Willy's Wonderland is MUCH better.
Good movie. Just a little weak in some parts but for a light horror kids appropriate movie just oka.
"Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)" (henceforth referred to as "FNAF" in the review) walks a fine line, but still manages to entertain.
I want to get one of the most common critiques of this movie squared away before I get into it; no, FNAF is not scary, because it couldn't be.
The main demographic of the FNAF franchise are young children. This makes it not impossible, but a terrible business move to make it R-rated. Firstly, parents would be outraged (despite the fact that it's entirely on them which movie they bring their children to watch). Kids would also use any method they could to watch it despite such a rating. These reasons would create a lot of bad press for the movie, causing it to lose sales. With that, the final and probably main reason it doesn't have a higher age rating is that the movie would lose a ton of potential sales by excluding its largest demographic. Aiming for a "medium" age rating like PG-13 subjects the film to limitations in terms of how violent and scary it can be, but Universal (rightly in my opinion) deemed it necessary to maximize viewership.
I was fully aware of this being the case when I went to watch the film, and while I would have loved to see an R-rated version of FNAF, I completely understand the reasoning behind it not being so. That is the foundation I'm writing this review on.
FNAF is both cheesy and silly, but finds time to ground itself. The cinematography is average, but the props are excellent. They follow the source material very well and look sufficiently realistic.
The writing and acting are the main things stopping FNAF from completely surpassing my expectations. Sometimes these factors make the film stumble.
I find the most redeeming quality of FNAF is its entertainment value. I had so much fun watching it, especially with my friends, who were both able to provide important context for the lore, and provide lots of laughs at the most bizarre parts.
I'm only a passive enjoyer of the source material in that I've watched some people play the games on YouTube and the like. Without any prior context I think this film might be a miss for most people, because it can be hard to follow the reasoning for certain characters decisions without understanding the lore behind the franchise first. On the other hand, I think it was appropriate to go this route as many if not most of the viewers will likely be familiar with the source material, and going the other way might leave them disappointed instead.
I couldn't imagine the challenge of abiding to all the necessary limitations of making this film, and I have a lot of respect for the crew for doing what they did with what they could. It could be a lot better, even with these limitations, but it surpassed my expectations well.
This movie was awesome! I enjoyed the music and everything within. Especially Matthew Lillard. He was a treat!
as a movie only person, I found it enjoyable if I just think of it as fun slasher thriller
I watched it earlier with my son. Going in I only knew that the robot musicians from Chucky Cheese were were evil. There was so much more to the movie. Overall we really enjoyed it. It had its creepy bits, a few jump scares and a pretty good story that kept us interested.

Could have been a tad scarier. Maybe the end could have been made slower. Other than that, it was surprisingly good. Also had a good laugh at the well-deserved MatPat cameo.
