Fear Street: 1978 2021

The first one was almost kid friendly like Goosebumps and then threw in violent deaths of likable characters. When you least expected it.
This one is fun but you know what you're in for now. Definitely aren't kid friendly and you shouldn't get attached to anyone.
My main problem is that there’s a lot of murders of children campers. You know most of the teens are goners. The kids dying is like the film is going for darkly funny but it’s really not.
Either way, this one is almost great and better than the first. I did see the twist coming about which sister survived though.

Miles better than the first one. This time it actually feels like a slasher film. It moves pretty slow and drags on a bit but when it gets to the exciting parts, it's brutally fun. And I'm a sucker for camp themed horror! I mean, slasher in summer camp setting, what could go wrong? It nails in blending the tropes with other elements like witchcraft and mythology making it very engaging. I really like how it's mostly terror and suspense, you won't see much camp or humor. The camerawork, the atmosphere, and the practical effects are all done nicely. I enjoy the soundtrack and it's less intrusive this time, which is great. The kill count is pretty low though and the kills aren't as creative. It shares one same issue I had with the first film, the characters are not really interesting. But I'm glad they're not as irritating. Overall it's enjoyable spooky fun time. I can't wait to see how they wrap things up!

I absolutely love this movie series. Such a great plot and acting it’s so good I can’t wait for the next movie

Really liking where this is going, solid installment and really nailed the classic summer camp slasher feel. I do wish they had a kill on par with the bread slicer from 1994, and wish they used more of some of the other killers we have glimpsed. Ready for some 1600s witch vibes where we can really sympathize with Sarah’s plight as I’m sure she gets rough goings by the people of Sunnyvale.

Well, at least it was better than the first one? The acting was an improvement (thank you, Sadie Sink), at least some characters were likeable but the rest was just a poorly executed cliché. And I still don’t care about the 94' characters or the rather convoluted curse. Still one part to make it more tolerable.

There are echoes of Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp in this next chapter of Fear Street. It’s a pretty good effort, with a finale that raises the pulse for the next in the series.

If the meme "fuck them kids" were turned into a movie, it would probably be something like this. There killed a lot of kids.

I liked this a little more than the last one, just because it leaned more into the horror slasher more, something like 'Sleepaway Camp' and 'Friday the 13th'.

loading replies

First movie is the best ,the second one pretty good but the last one kind of stinks till the end.Worth watching for sure.

loading replies

I don't know if this was as good as the first installment, but it was still entertaining and moves at a good pace. I think I liked the characters more on this round but the story seemed a little less engaging.

Part 2, with lots more action and gore and this time had the Jason feel and i loved it!

My dumb face when I realized who the Camp Nightwing Killer and Ruby Lane were from the first part… I wonder if we get to meet the remaining killers, more closely at least. I didn’t see that sister twist coming and I’m absolutely gutted that Cindy died in vain, since I grew accustomed to her throughout the film.

I’m absolutely enjoying this series and I look forward to the fact that they are reusing the whole cast for the third part.

You can also think of the 3 Fear Street movies as a 6 episode limited series.

1994 - is basically an homage to the movie Scream and starts asking all sorts of questions that are answered in the 2 follow-up movies.
1978 - is essentially an homage to Friday The 13th and is a proper slasher film.
1666 - answers all the questions we had and some we didn't even think about.

In other words, the story we thought we were watching in 1994 and 1978 suddenly takes a turn and 1666 gives us a whole new story. In hindsight, the clues were there.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

I have to run through this a second time. I couldn't get past all the 90's teenage angst. It went from waxing nostalgia to annoying quickly.

Great
Fear Street Part Two 1978:
Part One is definitely the stronger installment
and so much more entertaining that keeps
things fun and moving along
throughout all the acts.
Part One is definitely my favourite but this one still rocked. part one is way more engaging
with the evil taking center stage
also the characters are way more
likable, characters you root for and want
them to survive, i just didn't have any
feelings of connection with
part two characters.
That being said I love what they have built with this trilogy, it's very very clever and very cool and slick
and the story is bloody interesting the soundtrack
to FS-1978 was off the charts Amazing.
To be honest the story and lore
they have created with this Trilogy
throughout the time periods,
is such a treat for all
Horror fans and
deserves all the
credit and appreciation because it's
Actually Awesome AF.

Now Witness The Origin
To Be Concluded

Good killings, slow at the beginning but bad script

Another solid entry in the series. Felt a lot like a Friday the 13th movie with a witch plot line.

this ones a total banger. i love a good slasher and this one absolutely slaps. i love the nick background, i love cindy, i love tommy. this is just a fun campy slasher and i love it

definitely my fav from the triology

This one is better in a lot of ways than its predecessor, but a few glaring questions have me rating it lower, anyway. Specifically:

  1. Very early on, we're told that "But in 1978, there was one survivor." And then we see that an entire busload of kids actually survived. And the future sheriff. And more. So that's all kinds of confusing to me.

  2. How did Adult Ziggy know so much about Cindy's actions (she's narrating things, after all) when she wasn't there to see them? I would've had the same essential question here if the plot twist at the end hadn't happened, in which case I would've been asking how Cindy knew so much about Ziggy's actions.

  3. How did Ziggy manage to keep ANYONE from finding out about her identity switcheroo? Or are we supposed to believe that other people knew about it and they ALL kept it a secret?

Better than the first on. Love camps, love sadie sink

loading replies

better than the first, loads of fun and a great addition to the camp slasher subgenre, honestly. the acting is also a big step up with the camp cast, but then again that bread slicer scene in the first movie kind of made up for all of its weaknesses.

the soundtrack for this one was also MUCH better. and any film featuring a pet named major tom is automatically good in my book.

First Part was an abomination. Heard this one was good. Gave it a try. Indeed it's better than the first, but I'm still not impressed. Some of those dramas between the characters were dull and sloppy. Can't get myself into the story. If a movie lets me press the pause button, you failed. I took 5 breaks and 3 days to complete this movie. That should tell you enough. I'm not even gonna bother with the Third Part! Don't ever make a slasher again whoever you are who came up with this "awesome" idea.

loading replies

I really liked the spin that the second part is pretty much a classic slasher movie. I think it's my favorite of the Trilogy.

loading replies

Compared to part 1, this one's far more superior. The characters were likeable, I was actually rooting for some to survive. Much better acting, not the best but it wasn't distracting either (Sadie Sink carried). Loved the 70's summer camp theme, such a vibe. What kept me hooked was the mystery, I just needed to know why things were going the way they were going.

Story = 8
Cinematography = 8
Soundtrack = 7
Production Design = 8
Acting = 6

Overall score = 7.5/10

Ehh it's okay. Heavy handed writing and odd direction at times. Like removing frames to give a jerky action sequence. It just made it look sped up and cheap.
Some of the actors let it down. Especially the one playing Alice. The two sisters were solid though and they're clearly gonna have something happened between paranoid Ziggy and the cop again. The time jump at the end was unexpected (not the setting ofc as the next film was known but the fact that she herself has gone back). Will be interested to see how they round it out.

It’s a slasher movie, with nice visuals, trapped in a middle of a not very interesting story about a witch and a curse.

loading replies

A Walmart production of It.

The 1970s vibe and Sadie Sink's performance helped ease the pain of Stine's heavy handed writing.

loading replies

People on social media are saying this is the best one of the trilogy so my expectations were very high. I still think the mythology is the least interesting part of it. But I liked the setting, though. Also, could use more character development. They are too one dimensional.

loading replies

well.. since i gave 4/10 to first part of fear street im obligated to review part two as well. second part of trilogy is at least three times better then the first one, no pc crap just good old slasher movie and if third part of the trilogy keeps it up in this tone we might have one of the biggest surprises for this year.

loading replies

In an increasingly common phenomenon of disappointing sequels Fear Street manages to level up with a decent sequel. The characters, pacing and building suspense all improve and really set the vibe of the story. I am still looking for the final lesson to be learnt which both the movies seemed to save for the finale.

Funny but I didnt know young Ziggy can change her eye color from blue to brown growing up... Just saying..

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Fear Street Part Two: 1978’:

  1. This isn’t Hereditary. It’s not The Conjuring. And it’s not meant to be, in the slightest. It’s a film based on a young adult book series. When you truly grasp what this movie derives from, you can’t help but to be impressed by it. For what it is, it’s very well done. I absolutely loved it!

  2. Speaking of impressed… I continue to be taken aback at how fantastic the characters are. The music and the “choreographed” feel remind me a little of Scream. And I am definitely enjoying the mythology of it all. This has the foundation to actually become a quality television series.

  3. I never thought this would feel like an authentic slasher film. I was wrong.

Bonus Thought: My biggest qualm… they found that hand in the mall way too damn fast. I’m gonna chalk it up to them being drawn to its energy.

[Netflix] The festival of tributes to the slasher of the 70s/80s continues. Halloween in summer. Less effective than Part One, it manages to be a solvent narrative continuation, rebuilding itself to adopt different subgenres, with a forceful direction. Marco Beltrami pays tribute to Jerry Goldsmith's music for "The Omen" (1976) better than when he composed the soundtrack for the 2006 remake.

I wasn’t too keen on the first one, which put me off watching this, the 2nd of 3. Plus, it’s about a summer camp; how many horror and slasher films have been there and done that.

To my amazement, I actually enjoyed this. It was well done and held my attention.

I enjoyed the characters and the pace of everything going on. Plus it was a bigger build up to how all 3 films come together.

I’m actually looking forward to watching the 3rd.

I’m still confused that the first has anything to do with this, not due to the storyline, but done to how mediocre the first was. They are like chalk and cheese.

A shout out to Sadie Sink, a rising star :dizzy:

Fear Street Part 2 1978 expands the story
developed in part 1 and it's done very adroitly. Despite exposing teen flesh, and surplus use of profanity, the 2nd edition still keeps a good balance of emotions, gore, and tension. The unraveling of the storyline, the emotional depth of characters, and the forboding slasher moments all come good. Sadia Sink, Emily Rudd, and Ryan Simpkins have truly given admirable performances in this nail-biting venture which only opens up the story for the third and final story.

Entirely different from part 1 and this is scary af

Loved the first one though it was missing something that kept it from being great. They definitely hit their stride with this one!! Cannot wait until 1666!!

loading replies

I wish the part one of this series was good as this second part! it really feels like a slasher movie and they doesn't hide their homage to friday the 13th but do it in their own lore! i really doubt that the part three will be as good as this, but I think this movie saved the hole series. if the part three is weak as the part one, it's ok JUST because of this movie.

Although... the movie isn't perfect, there is a lot of little "why are they doing this?" moments, but the movie is entertaining enough for you to end up overlooking those moments.

Much better than the first part - actors were good, the story solid, and the camp vibes were awesome. Not many twists, but this is as fas as you can get in this genre at this point I guess.
