Watching for the hype and it didn't disappoint
The story starts out interesting, but it gets much worse as it goes on. There are many facts, many completely different paths and many twists and turns, but nothing is well connected, there are so many paths that at the end you can hardly remember the beginning. The make-up and effects are also very average, nothing here generates much emotion.
i don't even know why i didn't understand it lol maybe it had to do with the difference in the cultures ? no idea but still i think it ain't worth the big hype
I'm not sure if there's a cultural gap, but this movie was hot garbage. I've watched many other Korean movies, and a lot of them were great. This one is just a mess. The plot makes absolutely no sense. There's no character development. It's not scary/horror. There's no drama. The ending is confusing. Skip it.
A confusing story of a confrontation with an evil spirit and not scary enough. A baby in the family is sick, the exorcists who appear claim that the problem is the disturbed peace of a long-dead grandfather. A whole team makes money by digging up graves. But it turns out that this is not a scam. Evil is waiting to take revenge

This is a great and intriguing film that possesses several qualities, but it could have been much better overall.
The movie is divided in a relevant way into several chapters, which gives to the movie an interesting structure and a good pace, the movie has a wonderful rhythm in general.
The cinematography of the film is not extraordinary, but yet some elements of the film make it cinematically appealing, such as the different scenes of the wood, the mountains, a great management of the lightning, and the actors, who are all good. We get to see Choi Min-Sik as a feng shui master and Kim Go-Eun as a shaman, which is really cool, and they both deliver stunning performances as usual.
From the beginning of the film, we expect to experience something very dark and challenging to witness a real tragedy, as the characters themselves suggest.
However, the movie tends more to be a good thriller or mystery film rather than a good horror film, which is unfortunate.
It certainly possesses the codes of horror movies, and it fits the genre, but the thing is that it simply doesn't scare all that much.
Without making any drastic change, but by simply putting the characters in more complicated situations or giving them a harsher ending would have been enough to make the overall experience a bit better.
Nevertheless, Exhuma is indeed a pleasant movie that keep us captivated and aware of each twist and turns all along, it metaphorically depicts the nation's traumatic colonial past and characters that are ready to put their lives on the line against a great evil to protect their land.
8/10.
