My heart is breaking when I think about this movie and I'm so confused. I loved all the books. Eragon was my first love when I was a kid and I remember being happy to see the movie. (I've read all the books and even finish a game on my Playstation back in the days.) It has premiere on my birthday in Prague and I went there happy I will finally see it in a movie and altought I liked it as a kid (because I was just blinded by it being in movie), everytime I watch it I felt sad. I'm sad they did such a bad job and didn't keep up with a book so it basically impossible to shoot the other books. It had so much potential as a book but because the movie adaptation was so bad it just didn't get the fame as it deserves. When I re-read the books again I was surprised how much deep thoughts it contains. It's such a shame.
The dialogues were so unoriginal! It was like a generic-version of a fantasy tale, they got the bones for it, but could not really flesh it.
It sounds crazy, but this film makes me physically angry. The Inheritance Cycle is my favourite film series, but this movie butchered the first book, Eragon. I truly hope they don't adapt the other three books. They did a bad job.
This book was written when the author around 15, and he then followed up the trilogy, making it a tetralogy for the primary stories in the Brisingr series (plus the recently released Murtagh book). This book absolutely blew me away, and then the series kept me so deeply engaged, as you get the feel of Le Guin and Tolkien quite a bit, and I am sure there are other fantasy author's there, but fantasy is not generally my genre. This movie is not an adaptation, it is a script someone wrote after reading it, thinking they could condense it into this movie.
Now, I enjoy the movie as a standalone movie, so long as we totally forget the books (which I read as they were released), and I could have seen them building on this, hopefully adding some of the missing stuff from the books.
I liked this movie, but wasn't "wow"ed by it. I haven't read the book series, however I'm glad I haven't as I probably would have liked the movie less based on other reviews.
One of my absolute favorite books series. This movie is an insult. It literally feels like they took the most basic of basic outlines and said screw everything else. This should have been so good but it's just one big train wreck.
This movie was like medieval sanitation. There was shit everywhere.
Shit script, shit acting & shit directing.
Avoid.
Literally the only redeeming quality of this movie is the CGI for baby Saphira. Otherwise a complete dud of a movie adaptation of a quite good book.
I actually loved the premise and what the movie was trying to convey, the effects is other story but i was expecting a reboot or sequel to this so it could be better than this... But alas Reviewers and Critics Bummed it down so much that no one will ever see it's potential among the cold harsh words of ash and dust... Fare Well Gem of Men
While I liked the book Eragon, I couldn't bring myself to finish reading Brisingr because the dialog felt so artificial and the book wanted to tell a grande story but it just couldn't keep up with such true fantasy gems like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter.
The same thing is true for the Eragon movie: the dialogs feel artificial, the story isn't told in a gripping way and the actors just don't bring the characters to life. By giving it 6/10 I am kind and I only do it because the scenes with Saphira are cool and I think that the SFX guys were the only ones that managed to do a decent job.
As I decided half way through Brisingr, I'm deciding after watching Eragon: never again!

Bad book adaptation.
