Still holds up really well over 20 years later, and even more relevant now.
Ahead of its time in terms of subject matter, but really dated in terms of execution and style. The script is too dumb to be the statement against surveillance culture it wants to be, but Scott still manages to squeeze quite a bit of tension out of this material.
5.5/10
this movie is fun really exciting
Highly recommended!!
Behold....the future!...tadaaaaaaa clap clap
And just like that, all privacy vanished by the time 2020 came along. Oh, it'd be a dream to have the 4th Amendment mean something in today's age. Great movie overall, though I doubt the FBI would turn on corrupt NSA agents.
Great action flick. Smith and Hackman share a good chemistry, while they run through a plot that is truly frightening, especially in today's climate.
This was a prophecy that became true...
One of my all time 'Go To' movies. Will Smith and Gene Hackman are excellent in their respective roles. Love the twists and turns.
Pure unintentional comedy, three points for Gene Hackman.
The moment when Gene Hackman says 9/11 is all-time.
Flawlessly crafted, firmly hooked on paranoia and gracefully finished. Masterpiece by T. Scott. Hackman, still listening to these conversations! Deja vu from the scene of W. Smith and the girl at the fountain is both easier and more difficult for the new generation of operatives! A film that directly asks a question that is unpleasant in its relevance.
How to draw the line between the security of the country and the privacy of personal life? If a country invades private life, then why such a country?
:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: - I absolutely love this film! I have watched it many times and enjoy it every time.

Enemy of the State is a thrilling movie with a plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film's commentary on privacy and government surveillance is still highly relevant today, making it a must-watch for anyone concerned about these issues. Overall, Enemy of the State is a must see for fans of the thriller genre, and its relevance today only adds to its impact.
I know it's dated by several years but this is still one of the best political thrillers out there, IMO. With the current state of affairs in our political system, the scenarios played out here in Enemy of the State are far less outlandish and unthinkable than they were when this film was released nearly 25 years ago. Great cast that includes Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Jack Black and others…superb acting, great musical score, and toss in a near-perfect closing and this is about as great a movie as you can get. Highly recommend this one!
Still a fun watch to this day
An action packed movie that barely has any boring parts. The supporting cast is phenomenal as well. I can barely name every actor in this movie.
The late Tony Scott was like Michael Bay but if most of his movies were good with a lot less explosions.
Underrated Will Smith Movie. Him and Hackman are gret together. Jack Black is in here, too!
Officially not connected to the much older film, "The Conversation," but...made it so much more meaningful to think so at the time I watched it!
Enemy of the State is an action-packed Christmas film from director Tony Scott. While out shopping high-powered lawyer Robert Dean is secretly given a file that incriminates the NSA in the death of a U.S. senator, which soon makes Dean the target of a government black ops team that’s seeking to eliminate the file and everyone connected to it. The cast is quite impressive, featuring Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Lisa Bonet, and Barry Pepper. However, the writing’s a little weak and over-the-top with its complicated plots and broad characterizations. Yet there’s a bit of fun to the madcap adventure, and the action scenes are shot especially well. Exciting and full of thrills, Enemy of the State is an entertaining popcorn film.
I hadn't seen her since I saw her at the movies. It's still so exciting and well done, the actors do it right
Give me a break.. From modern standpoint, but probably even back then this is just a bunch of extremes-bs. Sure there is tapping and stuff, often genuinely in favour of preventing disastrous events. Why are all movies since the two big wars always portraying everyone in this freaking world as bad guys? The fact that 0,0001% of this world's population is rotten, doesn't mean the rest is... This mentality still goes on until this day in all movies and shows. We are just self-desctructing ourselves into oblivion, and for what? Fake fear?

...and who knew that every fear in this movie would become a reality after a tragic terrorist attack in 2001.
