The Eagle has landed! What an inspiring movie based on a true story, It really lifted me, and came with a great cast followed by a great picture. I didn't know wolverine could ski? Taron egerton ( Eddie The Eagle) such a good actor, played his character great, and loved the face reactions.. I'm sure he'll go far in his acting career, and hope to see him in more films in the near future XD
I watched the actual Eddie the Eagle as a young teenager and appreciated Eddie's passion, if not his sporting prowess. Whilst the film is not altogether accurate (Hugh Jackman's character is fictional), it is still inspirational and a strong message for all the underdogs out there - its not winning that counts, it is the taking part and its also the courage to continue when everybody else puts you down. Uplifting film, literally.
I was aware of the real Eddie the Eagle and I had a lot more respect for him before I had seen this film.
A complete snore fest, with too many purely fictional story elements, replacing real circumstances, which actually might have been interesting. What remains is nothing individual or creative, just the usual generic Hollywood product.
Absolutely superb and almost totally ninja..This movie was so motivating and beautiful i couldnt believe i didnt check it for over a year now..This guy is a hero and i wish every person could follow his example!
THIS MOVIE IS A DELIGHT FROM START TO FINISH!!!!!!!!
I loooooove this movie. Such a fun, uplifting, underdog story in the Rudy vein. And Hugh Jackman is amazing as his reluctant trainer. Bummed I missed this in theaters, it's definitely in my top 5 right now for the year with The Nice Guys, The Jungle Book, Sing Street annnnnd....hmm.....Hunt for the Wilderpeople? I need to revisit what I've seen this year so far. Will update this after a goog.
UPDATE: I totally forgot about Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Everybody Wants Some!! and Popstar....Hmmm...I'm thinking Wilderpeople gets dropped and either Popstar or WTF slides in. Might need to rewatch to make a final judgement call.
UPDATE: This review was written July 5th when I first watched it. Still think those faves stand. Has anything topped it in the past month? I don't think so.)
This wasn't on my radar but fortunately I watched it. Really fantastic movie that didn't try too hard but really inspires. Bonus for Hugh Jackman and (a small role) from Christopher Walken. Highly suggest this one. Similar to the plot of "The Greatest Game" and also based on a true story.
I remember watching the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics Games and remember with a passion Eddie the Eagle and wishing and hoping that he would do well even here in Australia you had people going for you wishing him the best, great performances by Taron and Hugh..
Cool Runnings: Ski Jumping
(Jamaica Abaixo de Zero: Saltos de Esqui)
Totally a feel good movie. Great story and very inspiring. I googled him afterwards, nice and sweet with a fantastic 80s music score
Great true story of determination and feel good 80s soundtrack as well
Really good movie. Not something I would normally watch but I gave it a try and loved it.
Eddie The Eagle is an amusing, uplifting, and feel-good story of a young English boy who despite many obstacles just wished to fly. With a brisk screenplay, two charming leads, and subtle humor, this one is will surely melt your hearts with its stirring presentation. Do not miss this inspirational family movie of an underdog olympian qualifier.

Eddie the Eagle is the true definition of a feel-good movie and I honestly didn't expect that while going in (with the mixed reactions). This may be another one of those inspirational underdog stories that we usual get, but I'll give this one a pass, since this movie did leave a smile on my face and I can't recall being bored while watching it.
Taron Egerton plays Eddie Edwards who's flawed, an outsider and always overlooked, and you can't help but like him. Taron Egerton did an excellent performance, as he was charming and very likable. Hugh Jackman was also great, as the best parts of this movie is with him and Taron. The movie is inspirational, delightful and the cinematography in this is just crazy good, I mean just wow.
The problems I have for this movie has to be with some of the writing, as it felt kind of sloppy at times, but that's really it.
Overall rating: Eddie the Eagle isn't perfect, but I already know this movie has uplifted many moviegoers out there....even me.
I quite enjoyed this movie. Was really fun and like it a lot that this guy just tried because he wanted to achieve something and just followed his dream - not in order to win but to follow his dream!
"You want your moment, Eddie, you gotta do this for real."
Eddie the Eagle is one of those movies that just made me feel happy.
Beautiful movie about a young man that just wants to complete his dream.
I appreciate movies made with passion, and Eddie the Eagle is certainly one of them.
Solid screenplay, good-looking movie, nice soundtrack and beautiful performances by Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman.
The is film, directed by Dexter Fletcher, is intended to be a film-good comic adventure. Make no mistake it is loosely, and very loosely, based on the true story of Eddie Edwards, who if you are reading this sat in the UK is very well known. A daunting task for the director and the lead. the very talented Taron Egerton, for Eddie is very much around and still pops up from time to time on our TV screens. So much so that many viewers probably felt the know as much about him as the director and actor. Very dodgy ground to walk on for film-makers.
It is therefore to Egerton and Fletcher’s credit that the portrayal of ‘Eddie’ is kept just about onside. The actor and director could easily have slipped over into pastiche and broad comedy and therefore insulted the former ski-jumper. At the time, Edwards himself said that although he wasn’t a champion skier he was taking the competition seriously and wanted and was trying to do the best he could despite finishing way, way, behind the more ‘professional’ skiers. Although comic in tone and although our ‘hero’ is made out to be a bit awkward, naive and bumbling there is enough about the presentation and the way Egerton plays the man to suggest a certain heroic, if somewhat foolhardy, stubborn determination that should not be taken lightly.
To offset this of course we must have broadly draw baddies, the GB Olympic committee members are missing their twirling moustaches and the nasty foreign Euro skiers are to a man unpleasant and boorish. Never mind in real life Italian skiers gave equipment to Eddie to help him. Equally mysterious is the appearance, particularly at the end of the film, of the all-to-real and hell-raising Finnish ski-jump champion Matti Nykanen who turned into some sage-like figure near the end. Truly strange. Well it would have been except for the walk-out, no need for this at all, part of Christopher Walken. The film really does play some odd cards over the playing time and none more so than the King of New York.
Despite my reservations about the need to have sign-posted and clear ‘baddies’ in the film and the well-worn path the film treads, the acting on show is good. Egerton is just on the right side of not doing a comic impression and is certainly a talented actor and his chemistry with the always likable Hugh Jackman is plain to see and this and the light frothy story keeps the whole show afloat.
Clearly no one is trying to make a hard-hitting treatise on the alienation of a true amateur in what is supposedly an amateur sporting event and the moral and financial implications this throws up, that is another film for another crowd. No this is fun, likable and with an outcoming that is heart-warming and positive. Sometimes that is all a film should be, So I say Eddie The Eagle has done its job and I’m sure that is all the makes set out to do with the film in the first place.
You can certainly watch Eddie soar once more in Calgary, just remember the real Eddie said the film is probably 5% true to his story and you won’t be disappointed
Enjoyable, feel-good movie. Not sure how near to the true story it is though?
Tried to watch, and it started okay; but only ran for 2 minutes or so, and NO MOVIE...Huh? #ShiftvW8
ok film. worth a watch
only download the preview of 2 minutes...why #ShiftvW8
I didn't expect much going into this movie and ended up pleasantly surprised. Ok, it's no Cool Runnings (which is set during the same Olympics and receives a nice little nod) but it is enjoyable, funny and heartwarming.
Good picture need then to shows
