Another overrated dud from Stanley Kubrick, one of the most overrated directors of all time.

Another masterpiece from one of the greatest directors ever.

An engrossing and unique war-satire, with an engaging, fascinating and layered plot, that's presented in the most hilariously absurd manner.

If it was just a massive print of the War Room set, this would be a clear five stars...but it isn't. While the use of farce may have worked to make what was a real fear to audiences in the '60s a little more palatable, it just felt stretched to me.

I've put off watching this for far too long, and while I'm glad I now have, I'll probably not revisit Dr. Strangelove.

That set though. Kubrick is a genius.

First time I saw this I didn't really like it. After this watch I really came around and like it a lot now. The whole plot is just absurd and I love it. Peter Sellers is fantastic at all his roles and Dr. Stranglove is just so crazy. The over use of planes flying and switch flipping got a little boring.

Like every Kubrick movie, this gets better with every watch, only Kubrick could choose to make a comedy out of the threat of Nuclear annihilation, at the very height of the cold war.

Even years later this film still sends up that powers that be, and how farcical the human race can be at times. Peter Sellers is hilarious, George C Scott overplays every scene and is fantastic, Sterling Hayden, how he delivers his lines with a straight face I will never know

Kubrick as always defines a genre, and that war room set has been used in so many movies since. Love this film

Feels like 12 Angry Men at times and I love it for that and for so many other reasons.

"You're gonna have to answer to the Coca-Cola Company."

How is this a comedy? This whole thing is massively overrated if you ask me. I literally almost fell asleep during this. That never happens and it speaks volumes.

"He went and did a silly thing."

That guy is the silliest man of all time.

This is a comedy? After 20 mins I led yet to laugh and had lost interest, switched it off as was already dragging on and boring. 1/10.

It is really amazing how Kubrik is able to do so much with so little. Although black and white and largely taking place in just a few locations, Kubrick is able to brilliantly craft a story that satirizes the annihilation of humankind. It is quite hilarious the measures that Buck and general Ripper are willing to go to, to stop the spread of communism, even if this means launching an atomic bomb on Russia. Buck's character is particularly funny as he has to pretend the entire time that he is against war.

The standout performance, however, is obviously Peter Sellers who plays three different characters, all unique. I'll be honest, I thought these were three different actors the first time I saw it -- that's how different they look and act. Seller's portrayal of Strangelove turns this movie from great to a near masterpiece. This movie falls short of the perfect 10 for me, though, because the plane scenes are pretty boring and I do not think we got enough of Dr. Strangelove!

There are a lot of things to love about "Dr. Strangelove". The acting of Peter Sellers George C. Scott and Sterling Hayden being the most obvious. This film manages to be very funny and outrageous while offering biting social commentary. The characters are so over-the-top yet the whole thing is somehow believable. The dysfunction of Sellers as the President and the bravado of Scott as General Turgidson is laugh out loud funny. The fact that the movie is shot entirely in black and white adds to its charm. The only drawback is the seemingly endless scenes that take place within the bomber as it flies to its target. This is another stunner from Kubrick.

A timeless satire of the Cold War and nuclear conflict, featuring three great performances by Peter Sellers. As you would expect from a Stanley Kubrick film, it’s also shot brilliantly and in a way that cleverly evokes a thriller.

You're better off watching the more superior film....Fail-Safe.

Truly, an incredible and innovative movie.

LOVE this movie! Fantastic dialogue, great performances, and a helluva story. The darkest of comedies and the sharpest of social commentary.

Peter Sellers at his best...one of the greatest character actors of all time.

This was probably one of the last Stanley Kubrick movies I saw, at least not counting the shorter ones from his super early days. I loved it straight away though. The comedy in this is just spot on. I know Dr. Strangelove is the title, but George C. Scott really steals the peak of my laughter. He's so over the top in his plan explanations and new ideas. Everything in that war room is solid comedy.

Then there is the military base, which also features a plethora of great laughter. Jack D. Ripper is shot in such an indimidating way while explaining his crazy plans. I love it when he explains himself. And by explains, I mean shows off his absolute bat shit craziness. It makes you wonder if something like this could happen if a high up general lost his mind. The military officially says it can't...

BUT CAN IT? Perhaps they are just trying to change our minds with the fluoride they pump into our systems.

Talk about overrated. The jokes were rather pathetic at times and on the whole it just wasn't funny. 'you can't fight in here this is the war room'....pause for comedic effect. And thats as good as the jokes get. Simple word play of the kind found in a Christmas cracker. Genius. What abput those long boring monologues? Incredibly redundant.
It was suprisingly slow and boring as we hear relay message after relay message, with no sense of urgency either. The plot plays out like a panto. The characters were very cartoon-like and it just looked goofy for cheap laughs rather than actual satire. Obviously the subject matter and the fact it's Kubrick makes people cream over it. Sellers has a hard job considering the dialogue but does his best.

• From the perspective of future generations, the creativity and design are still top-notch.
• However, the degree of darkness, absurdity, satire, and mockery is lacking, indicating that humanity is becoming increasingly dull.
• If we witness societal scenes like this nowadays, wouldn't it be better if the Earth exploded sooner?

will never ever see another movie like this

I'm immediately drawn to this. B/w looks fantastic. The world is about to end but there's no reason not telling this story with beautiful pictures. The war room is iconic. It's not a comedy, is it? It's actually very serious. To my liking, some of the characters and scenes are a bit too cartoon-ish but I guess that is one reason why this movie stands out.

Actually, on re-watching it, I feel wasn’t nearly as funny as I remember. The stuff I remember being funny was but much of the rest felt rather slow paced and broadly drawn.

Kubrick's signature is evident since the trailer, and the movie is not his best, but an excellent product.

I watched it because it's supposed to be this cult film.

It has some moments but overall I guess I missed the subtle points it was trying to make.

The things I noticed were the scenes where the Russian ambassador broke character. How did that got through editing?

I guess I'm not a fan of watching old stuff. The stuff I notice is the toxic masculinity, the casual rascism..

World leaders like Trump and Kim Jong-Un make this satire feel timeless.

the background music impressed me.the scene at round table is is rare.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb was a really funny and well-made satire. While some of the editing and visual effects (obviously) don't hold up too well these days, it was no doubt really good for the time. The script and acting were fantastic, and I can see why it became a classic. Plus the trailer's ridiculously cool.
