Another horror sequel that doesn’t need to exist. The original had a fantastic premise so the fact that there weren’t rly any likable characters was easier to ignore. The first one had a plot u could describe to someone and convince them to watch whereas this one felt very generic and like something I’ve seen before. This movie starts strong and try’s to connect us to Stephen Lang’s character but as the movie progresses u care less and less and ultimately just wait for the movie to end because u could care less about a single character in the movie. And that’s where this movie hits its biggest flaw it doesn’t matter who dies or how if the only reason u don’t want them to die is because there there a lil bit less of a douchebag than the next character. A movie can’t connect to the audience if the audience can’t connect with the characters. That being said I was never scared or on the edge of my seat like the first mostly because I didn’t care about anyone.
So he's a hero now? And we're just gonna ignore he Kidnapped, raped and forced a woman to carry his child for God knows how long?
That sequel that is just made for the money.
Love how bshollywood give a "human" side to a rapist and killer.
A good father, with God in is heart and a pretty daughter to raise against the evil society. Lovely
Ehh, I thought the first one could have utilized the blind man’s advantage of not needing the light the way everyone else does, but this one does it even less. It was a nice change of pace story wise, but there’s less tense moments and way less use of the darkness in this one. Felt more like an action movie and less like a horror/thriller.
Lang does a good job once again, but it's difficult to cheer for him considering his past. Obviously we're cheering for the well-being of the girl, but for him to come out the other side isn't a priority per se. Somewhat cartoonish baddies. Decent set pieces. 6.4 for me.
So, before I get into the nitty gritty of this film, I did want to remind all my viewers of the main, kind of, twist of the first, so if you haven't seen that film yet, you probably shouldn't be reading a review of the second, but also, spoiler warning for that first movie. Anyway, so the first movie was interesting because we had a group of kids break and enter into not only this blind man's house, this blind man that is coincidentally seriously violent, but it turns out that old man has a secret of his own hidden in the basement, and that was...he was trying to get a woman pregnant without her consent so that she'd give birth to a daughter for him - since he lost his own years prior. That's an important detail to cover, given the fact that....in this movie, we have what appears to be a daughter. Did he get back into his old antics? Did he actually get away with making some woman give birth for him? I won't tell you the answer for that - you'll have to see it for yourself, but one thing is for certain, he doesn't seem to be so...evil in this second film. I would actually say, in a way, this is a bit of a redemption film for a once, incredibly scary dude. Now, don't get me wrong, he's still a pretty scary character that knows multiple ways to tear somebody apart in the bloodiest of fashions, and it's wickedly incredible just to see Stephen Lang do his thing again. He's easily the best part of not only this film, but of the entire franchise as a whole, and to see him as more of a, maybe anti hero this time around was definitely a lot of fun, and the little girl in this film is easily the heart of the entire movie, and I liked that about the film, as sometimes, you didn't really know who to root for.
Don't Breathe 2 does a great job juggling the emotions of the viewers as it gives every character in the film a realistically complex character profile, where nobody in the film is truly good, nor are they truly evil. This was something that was also done in the first movie, because look - you have a group of kids breaking into somebody's home. They are in the wrong. They are technically criminals of what could be an innocent old blind man, but then it turns out he's really good at killing people, and so he starts wailing on them, and he's terrifying. He's a typical villain based on how dark he is, but the method to his madness was always very clever and logical. Same thing here. These druggies breaking into his home also are criminals, in more ways than one, but the more you learn about THEM, the more you begin to question who to trust...them...or the old man, and it constantly does this juggling trick that I think is much more effective in this film than it was in the first - because of the little girl. As the heart of the film, you, as the audience at home, connect with her the most, and you...like her, don't know who to trust. So, in a way, your own mind is transported back into the innocence of a child.
As far as the thriller aspect goes, I think Don't Breathe 2 is just as strong as the first movie, if not stronger. My end score is mostly identical to the first overall, but if I had to admit, I was probably pulled more into this one than I was last time. I thought the kills were spectacular, and the film's juggling trick kept most of the thrills alive. However, just like the first, I felt as if a movie about a blind man that you're trying to be stealthy around, needed less dialogue. Everyone talks in this movie. The bad guys, the little girl, the old man...heck, even the dogs in the film bark their heads off. It's kind of nonstop noise sometimes, and I think in a way, it lessens the effectiveness about a sensory-affected thriller like this. As I mentioned in my original review of the first, thrillers with a blind character are much more creepy when it's a slow-burning thing. Where half the film, all this crazy stuff is happening, but its happening really quietly, behind the back of the blind character who is oblivious to it all...until he isn't. and THEN all hell can break loose. It's more of a personal gripe with it than an actual complaint, as I think what they did with the film was fine for what it was.
It was also shot pretty well. A few long one-shots here and there throughout the movie, which always do a pretty good job adding to that creeping sensation you're supposed to have, and Lang himself also does a pretty good job with his performance. Overall, there's not a lot about this movie that I think was technically bad. I think a lot of it was actually pretty good. The twists in it were surprisingly, for me, pretty unguessable. Might not be the same for everyone, but I guess maybe I lucked out by most finding this unpredictable. Everything else in the film, if I didn't give it full points on my grading system, was just because it was business as usual. Nothing great or horrible.
That means when we look at my final score, my unbiased, technical score for Don't Breathe 2 is fairly decent, as I liked the way it was shot, edited together, and some of the visuals when it came to those scene done in the dark. I liked the performances from our leads here, and the overall unpredictability of the plot that somewhat serves as a bit of a redemption story. This score is 84%.
My biased score, or just how I felt about it overall, was right around there, as I definitely felt the tension in this film. I would even argue that it also works as a standalone film that doesn't really require previous knowledge in the first movie in order to understand or appreciate this one. This one, on its own, works really well. This score is 82%. Meaning, when we combine the two scores together, we come to the final rating of 83%, 83 out of 100 possible stars, or a B+ letter grade.
...PEACE OUT
Whoever came up with the idea to make the villain from the first movie into a sympathetic anti-hero for the sequel, made a big mistake.
Marvel's Daredevil gone wrong
If the old guy could see he'd be a super human. But he can't, so he's a super super human that has no trouble wandering around in places he's never been before without bumping into stuff. He knows where stuff is (glue, knifes etc) and that people aren't looking at him while he sneaks up and kills them.
This is one of these movies that you wonder why they made it - other than the money, because they forgot a plot and logic, they just made it up as they went along.
The movie opens with someone (not clear who) obviously staggering out of a burning house and collapsing in the middle of the road. We assume it's the old guy, as we jump 8 years - but how in the hell does he get hold of an 8-10 year old girl? She's the pivot point of the whole movie, but we just have to accept he's been taking care of her all these years, since she's known no one but him her whole life. Hmmm. That sounds completely logical.
I'm not even going to get into the bad guys... that's whole scenario is just mind-numbingly stupid... as is the entire movie. Skip it, you'll thank me.
1/10
Disturbing in a host of ways, especially if you've seen the prequel... but it holds your attention. I wouldn't mind a third installment featuring Phoenix and the new kids on the block.
I normally don’t go for this kind but it was entertaining enough for a skeptic like me to watch hole thing and it did keep me at the screen
Don’t hold your breath for a better sequel. Its not awful but it has none of the suspense of the first film.
Not good as the first one.
I mean u can watch it but i expected more.
If this movie would have been an complete new movie and no sequal maybe i would have liked it more...
I think it's pretty good but it doesn't retain all the qualities that made the previous one great and it's kinda pointless. Plus it feels like an action film rather than horror.
this movie has an interesting characteristic: you can change your mind-set to enjoy more or less.
if you compare to the excellent first one, you enjoy lesser. it is hard to ignore all the bad things that the blind man did, so its hard to cheer for him.
if you do NOT compare to the first one, and treat as a stand alone movie, you enjoy more! watch through the eyes of "Phoenix" and the twists become more powerful.
so, as a sequel it's a poor movie, but as an stand alone movie, it works great.
if you didn't like the movie (or even if you did), here is a thought experiment: think that this movie is the FIRST movie of this duology and that the first is really the second one acting as a prequel, so you can know all the bad things that the blind man did as he spoke to phoenix in his lasts moments
Film 173 of 2024:
What a step down from the fantastic first film. This was so boring and uneventful I made the unlikely step of turning it off. Just terrible
After viewing "Don't Breathe 2," I must say I was rather underwhelmed. The film struck me as an unnecessary follow-up, failing to recapture the ingenuity and tension of the original. It felt like a bit of a rehash, lacking in fresh ideas or substantial character development. The plot seemed contrived, and the twists appeared a bit ham-fisted, rather diminishing my enjoyment. It's a pity, really, as there was scope for a riveting sequel, but this film just didn't hit the mark. It ended up feeling like a superfluous addition to the franchise, not quite living up to its potential.
"Now you're gonna see what I see!"
Whereas the first Don't Breathe was a breathe of fresh air, this is more like "why did we make this?". The first one ended with a perfect way to make a sequel and it was abandoned and now we have to root for this dude.
I wasn't remembering so much the first one, i remember i liked it but not that the guy was a murderer and a rapist and now they portray him as a hero. If you bypass this the film was like what you expect, nothing too serious and it could use more action.
Also what is wrong with that city ? houses are on fire no ambulance no fire department, in a hotel shootings, explosions happen no police no nothing. Pretty unrealistic.
Well it wasn’t the worst movie, but it definitely doesn’t hold up to the first one. It’s also a little inconsistent when it comes to the characters and who’s bad, versus who’s good. At least on the first one, everyone had what was coming to them. Now with that being said, it’s still worth a watch. If you want to dissect it, and look for all the flaws, than this movie will give you the opportunity to boast your ego on how much of an expert you are on movies. Other than that, there is still fun to have when it comes to watching this movie. This will be a great weekend night movie when you have friends over and you all just want to have a good time.
It's not that fresh anymore, and the story isn't as shocking as it was in first movie.
You could Purge 1 & start here. But, why?
Part 1 was a refreshing restart in horror, especially when the grand majority lately are cheap, jump-shot ghost stories. I loved the first one and I REALLY liked this one as well. This is in the same realm of Purge 1-2, Collector 1-2 and Strangers 1-2 where all four series had home invasion horror as the 1st movie and the follow-up on a whole new level.
Right off the bat, I have to get a few things off my chest. I HATED the filter used here. It's mostly brown, tan or in-between. This was NOT a pretty movie to look at. Considering the subject matter and the John Wick-number of bad guys dominating the script, I can see why they wanted to make it look ugly. But, that doesn't change the fact it looks bland and boring.
Also, no spoilers, but what the second dog does is enormously far-fetched. You'll have to suspend your disbelief there for the climax to happen. And while we're on that dog, the other major thing it does is as equally unbelievable. But, again: plot.
And speaking of plot, from the cold open's important event to present day, there's an eight-year gap. But you wouldn't know that with how the characters look or act or provide exposition. It's as if this whole movie took place inside a weekend.
But, the rest of the movie? Oh, hell, this kicked ass and SHOULD be seen with part 1 despite not having to and they really couldn't be further apart.
A house explosion leads The Bad-Blind Man from the original film and girl to go live in an isolated house where the Man trains her his old Navy Seal survival skills so he doesn't lose another daughter like he did prior to #1. But, some REAL BAD MEN would like to take her for something very bad. The Bad-Blind Man has other plans for those men. Annnd, should we root for him?
There. I gave you a synopsis without spoilers and believe me, that's only about 10% of this movie. So much more for you to learn, explore and jump a mile when it happens. Also: No one is safe, sadly. This IS an all-around cutthroat film.
I would say: if you liked the first one, you should see this. But, frankly, they're so far apart in tone, atmosphere and locations, it's like it's a completely different movie. That said, yes, you CAN breathe
I enjoyed both of the Don't Breathe movie's. I would like to see a third one in the franchise. :thumbsup_tone1:
Gritty and ultraviolent, Don’t Breathe 2 is a mediocre film that doesn’t really add much to the original. After rescuing a young girl and raising her as his own, the Blind Man once again is faced with a group of home invaders and must fight them off in order to protect her. The writers do a pretty good job at playing with the moral ambiguity of the characters, and throw in a couple of interesting plot twists. However, the brutality and ugliness of the fight scenes is rather exploitative and become kind of monotonous after a while. Yet while it has its problems, Don’t Breathe 2 delivers some exciting and intense thrills.
Seen the seen, better to go to a foster home or even better, leave Detroit.
I prefer the first one, as the whole claustrophobic feeling from the single location made it more disturbing and scary. Still, this was an entertaining, gorry fun, exactly what I expected from this kind of movie.
Amazing movie!!!! Will there be a third ?? I hope so
Episode 10x04
This sequel is reinvented so much that it seems like a remake. It has gory and gory moments but they don't sustain a pretty loose and forgettable story. I was expecting something more and it stays at a 5/10.
Would be better if this wasn't a sequel. should have made this a whole new movie instead
Don't Breathe 2 is a merciless, savage yet pointless sequel that only rides on the success of its predecessor. 5years after the first edition, Stephen Lang looks older and the film tries to embark on a similar genre with more thrills and chills but all seems predictable, to say the least. The screenplay is rapid and wastes no time but the intensity dilutes due to the predictability of the story. Madelyn Grace is strictly okay and Stephen Lang does nothing different than the first edition, this time he develops a conscience that's it. I wouldn't recommend this if you have better options to watch.

the first movie was good I actually enjoyed it but this one is not so much it's an unwanted sequel.
The movie had too much mixed scenes and topics in my oppinion.
The first one had much more of a horror flare, while this one tended to be an action movie with way less lights out and hunt feeling scenes.
All over it shouldve just been the house and not that crew hideout with the organ trapnsplant cult.
It was ok but it was weak compared to the first one.
Now that was action packed with another good performance from Stephen Lang aka badass blind man also good job from the young actress madelyn. I really enjoyed that, not far of matching the first, definitely worth ‘seeing’
Movie: tries to make us sympathise with a frail, old, blind man who loses it all and gets put through hell when a bunch of junkies break into his house.
Remembering the previous movie where the old, blind man kidnapped, imprisoned, inseminated women, and murdered a bunch of kids
Me: oh no! Anyway...
The first one was much better!
Nearly as good as the original and solves a big problem in the first: by making the lead character a child, you are instantly pulling for her. The violence is over the top again and Stephen Lang's performance is once again fantastic.
Way below the bar of the first film which makes the sequel quite a disappoinment
A disappointment. None of the moral ambivalence of the original, and none of the characterisation. Just carnage for the sake of carnage.
Started off alright, then continually got more absurd and zany with each passing minute...and in the end I don’t know what the hell I just witnessed. 200% unbelievable, but was watchable.
As to be expected if you’ve seen the first one, this leans into the gore and exploitation. I heard people talk about how bonkers it is and that may have fucked up my expectations. Still a solid watch, bring on more BLIND MAN
Don't Breathe 2 doesn't have all of the suspense and dread from the first movie. In fact it feels like a totally different movie. It goes from horroresque to action/redemption movie. However...... I couldn't help but enjoy it.
Sure there are plot holes and it's predictable but the kills were inventive and Lang just plays the character so well he can carry it through on his own. The villains were corny and almost cartoonish but if you take it for what it is.... It's an enjoyable ride.
Was this sequel necessary? No. Did it add from the first movie? No. Did I enjoy it anyway. Hell yeah! Knowing what Lang's character has already done in the first movie leaves you in a real dilemma, is he the hero? Or is he the lesser of two evils?
Pretty average tbh. The first one had a really good twist in the ol' "we are gonna rob this guy" (being the twist that not only he is blind but it's a badass and always try to play in his field). This one felt pretty meh, I thought that he was going to use his own house more as an advantage than just to escape. Felt very generic, if that's the word.
An unnecessary sequel that doesn't live up to the expectations that the first one set. Plot holes (some ridiculous ones too) and predictability ruined this one..
Watched at Sunday 5 September 2021
I was pleasantly surprised! Not the best movie of 2021, but considering the crap movies 2021 has produced so far, this movie was good. Definitely a must watch!
Way better than I was expecting. Predictable in spots but maybe that’s just cause I’ve watched so many thriller/horror movies. I’d watch it again for sure, maybe a few more times.
I wouldn’t say it is the same as the first. Since this time you want to see the home invaders die, violently. Stephen Lang is good but the new director Rodo Sayagues doesn’t utilize the blind man’s blindness as well as Fede Alvarez did.
The blind man feels more vulnerable and less of a threat this time. Though he was never really an evil man. He just went a little mad after losing his daughter.
He’s also probably sad and lonely, just don’t mess with him. Well, especially don’t mess with him in the first film, anyway. He’s dangerous in this just not as dangerous.
Spoiler Warning: I think the film would have been stronger if Phoenix was Rocky’s daughter. Rocky is not Stallone but Jane Levy’s character is the first film. It would have made perfect sense if the blind man stole Rocky’s daughter. Some years later, for revenge.
Instead the movie is like Blind Fury that starred the late great Rutger Hauer as a blind hero.
If you liked this, watch: Don’t Breathe, Blind Fury, Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Like a watch recycling center, this isn't a total waste of time.
However, the decent action wasn't enough to overcome the clumsy misdirects, bad science, and lack of innovative premise. What's more, I breathed so much, so the Don't Breathe 2 didn't hold up its end.

Don't Breathe 2 is a sequel to the 2016 hit movie Don't Breathe, which was made for a low budget and received positive reviews. However, simply because the first movie performed well, does not necessarily mean that a sequel was a good idea. In this case, Don't Breathe 2 fails to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor. The movie follows Norman, a blind Gulf War veteran with a history of kidnap, rape and torture, as he fights for survival alongside a young girl named Phoenix. The movie is grim, depressing, uninspiring and unexciting, and it lacks the tension and atmosphere of the first movie. Additionally, the movie is asking the audience to empathize with and side with Norman's character, which is not well-received. The movie is not well acted and there are no interesting lore additions or new characters of note. The runtime is short which limit the damage but overall, this movie fails to bring anything new to the table. The reviewer didn't have high hopes for this sequel, but it still turned out to be one of the worst movies of the year for them.
