Destroy All Neighbors 2024

This could have been a Creepshow episode. Bizarre, cartoony, over the top. All while never looking like it's trying too hard to be serious. There's nothing "serious" here (other than Will's serious love for the Prog), and it's all the better for it.

Good silly fun.

Will vs. Evil Dead

Killer intro and music. This was a fun time, it's silly, ridiculous, over-the-top and the comedy is mostly hit. Don't expect any scares, this is pure comedy horror but it does satisfy with great practical effects, lots of blood and a few unique kills. The lighting, sets and characters make this very colorful and captivating. Good musical choices and score. The main character is a really good one and so are his sidekicks. I like the music storyline but everything else about the story is nonsensical. Great ending but i'm mixed on the conclusion of the third act, it fits perfectly with the movie as a whole but the battle was short-lived and my craving for fun wasn't satisfied yet. I had a good time with it overall, a decent start for Shudder this year.

In an era where so many movies are these super-serious emo trauma horror sorts of fare, it is refreshing to see something that isn't afraid to just be silly. Although it's a modern movie, it has all of the trappings, beats and rhythms of an 80's film. I suspect that co-star and producer Alex Winter has a lot to do with that. It pairs nicely with 80s cheeseball classics like Basket Case, Brain Dead, and Frankenhooker. It also works as a niece double feature with Studio 666. Well done, Josh Forbes. Well done.
