Deliverance 1972

Deliverance is one of those movies that makes you think twice before taking your next camping trip. What starts out as good old fashioned fun amongst friends, turns into a nightmare.

Strong performances(3 Golden Globe Nominations) from all involved adds an element of realism to a script that already holds it's own weight. The fluid direction from legendary John Boorman moves the story along at a manageable pace, adding suspense at the perfect moments. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, or trembling in fear as the four friends battle their morals as they desperately fight for their lives.

It is considered a classic by many and for very good reason. It is real, dark, dramatic, suspenseful, all interwoven into a story about friendship and their fight for survival in the wilderness. If you are looking for a must see movie before you die, this will definitely deliver.

Really strong performance from Voight and the atmosphere is fascinating, thanks to Zsigmond Vilmos's masterwork.

Haunting. Suspenseful. A true thrill that personifies an entire surrounding environment. Classic

Still wondering if Drew was shot or not.

The "Dueling Banjos" scene is a classic, and the highlight of the film for me to be sure.

Performances are solid, with dialogue that feels realistic and works well for the characters. The story is perhaps where the film loses me... there just doesn't seem to be enough to it. It feels like there's supposed to be tension, but everything was so predictable that I didn't really get much of a sense of dread. Instead it just feels drawn-out in the second half, perhaps even a bit boring.

Still worth watching, but the first half is the better half overall. I honestly wouldn't bother re-watching it outside of the banjo scene.

Starts off strong and loses its steam towards the middle, nearly in the same way its the characters do.

Overrated. Not scary enough to be a horror. Not crazy enough to be an exploitation yet it flirts with it for one scene. Not thrilling. Slow. The whole movie focuses on one act that we have to wait half way to see. That act is funnier than it is shocking because it's so stupid. The drama and second half journey didn't make me feel engaged because the friendships weren't real enough and the dialogue was more plot based and situation reminders rather than character based pain or relationship tests. It could be dialogue from any movie.
I think this is a movie of its time and was just something that caught on. The rape scene obviously being man on man was shocking for the time.
