A well made movie with a good performance from Mark Ruffalo. It's message is powerful and scary.
Ruffalo gives the performance of his career in this sly, softspoken and understated narrative, which hooks you from the open and never lets go. Like "THE BIG SHORT", a peek at how the world really works.
The story is engaging and absolutely gripping. Thank you for the prolonged fight "Robert Bilott" against corporate deception and irresponsibility. Thank you for telling this story that otherwise many people would not have known.
Excellent movie that, ultimately, fails to portray the amount of sacrifice and hardship that was endured for decades by the people involved. Not due to the ineptitude of the cast or creators of this movie but purely to the inconceivable amount of suffering these companies got (and still get) away with. No amount of movie can truly depict what Robert Bilott and people like him, the people who got and get sick, went through.
Movies like this are a must see but unfortunately, no matter how hard the message, it is merely entertainment and those who perform these criminal acts keep doing it and getting away with it.
I loved this movie for the message it gave us, I hated it for the mere fact justice, if ever given, takes a lifetime to be dealt.
To hell with these companies and the willing people involved & Long live people like Bilott fighting these towering windmills.
As compelling as it is important. We need more movies like this. And more people need to see them.
Wow. You watch this movie and you will never want any chemicals from DuPont again. Worse if it hits you that every single other chemical company on the planet from 3M to Dow all knew there was an issue and no way they thought DuPont had figured a way to make Teflon safe. They poisoned all of us for $1B a year in pure profit (aka. after all costs).
Self regulation by major corporations is a joke and this movie exposes it in all its nauseatingly, self serving glory.
A compelling true story expertly delivered.
It's already a slow burn to begin with and the pace drops considerably as we get closer to the end.
The cast all give excellent performances and the cameos by real life victims of this corporate sanctioned poisoning are a very nice touch.
Fantastic movie - very scary what American chemical companies can get away with. No one is safe from Dupont poisoning
Good movie, but in Comparison with The Rainmaker or Erin Brokovich it is just good.
"The system is rigged. They want us to think it'll protect us but that's a lie. We protect us, we do. Nobody else. Not the companies, not the scientists, not the government. Us."
Well yeah. It's been like this for a while now. We only see the tip of the iceberg and thanks to people like Robert we can see the rest for this particular subject.
Evil companies are real because there are and always will be evil people among us and it's up to us to question everything and everyone for the sake of people. Don't believe everything you hear just because it sounds good.
It makes you sick.A powerfull movie that people need to watch.Ruffalo gave a superb perfomance as usually.7.6/10
Grateful to this movie for making sense of a lot of things and answering so many questions. Very scary and thought provoking.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore :pensive:
An incredibly powerful story showing decades of the hard work Rob Bilott went through. And this doesn't even scratch the surface on chemicals that are harming living beings all in the name of making money. Defining this as a thriller is exactly what it is, and it's real life...it's scary and we need more people like Bilott and Tennant that step forward and fight for what's right.
The movie it's just Mark Ruffalo by himself, telling us a horrifying truth. He did a great performance, but not as great as the people who entered in the final spot of Best Actor at the Oscar.
You know that feeling when you're waiting on your herpes test results and some stranger insists on talking your ear off about his weekend at the lake, his dog show awards and his high school wrestling career? That's what watching Dark Waters is like.
It's a serious subject but there are so many secondary story lines that are so insignificant even the director abandons them and the full impact of the film is feeble from being diluted -- by water that is more tepid than dark.
Look, you may believe in God or not, but everyone believes in the devil. And the literal devil is Dupont, Dow and Monsanto. So this based on a true legal drama is a necessary film, an important film and even an inspiring film. But if you're making a movie about how bad the devil is, why would you include recipes for carrot cake? I'd rather they focused on putting Dupont in a casket and nailing the lid shut with the bones of their directors than the dark watered down wrist slap I felt I watched here.
On the surface this seems like just another investigative movie, another David vs Goliath. But everyone of these movies is important. What I liked here especially is that they didn't overdramatized. No loud, tension building music. This movie let's the fact speak for themselve. They are dramatic enough.
Sadly there is no real punishment for coporations like DuPont. As it is said in the movie: the system is rigged.
What a fantastic movie. Great performances and good to see individuals with a conscience holding despicable people and companies responsible.
It takes something special to keep me hooked to the screen and stop me from picking my phone etc, this film gripped me from the 1st minute, absolutely superb & worrying at the same time, give it a watch 5*
Another addition to the "Mark Ruffalo Highlights A Terrible Issue in Society Cinematic Universe"
“The system is rigged.”
Robert Bilott
Insanely disturbing. Mark Ruffalo is quickly becoming a must see, this, “Spotlight” and “Foxcatcher” not a bad triple header.

An excellent and necessary watch.
Film 73 (Goal: 300) of 2024
I kept putting off watching this because I've never been a big Ruffalo fan, the long run time, the subject matter (I felt like I had watched a similar film recently). But finally NETFLIX informed me that this would be leaving their platform within a few weeks. I finally took the plunge and committed to watching it. In this case - thank you NETFLIX.
Dark Waters is a fantastically well put together film about a recently made partner lawyer, Ruffalo's Robert Bilott. After he accosted at his firm by Wilbur Tennant, who pleads his case that something is wrong with his land in West Virginia, Robert begins to dive deeper and deeper into an investigation that will consume him and open the eyes of Millions regarding everyday household items. As I said, it's well directed and edited, with the film moving through a lot in its 2+ hour run time but never jumping too far to make you feel like you're out of the loop. Ruffalo is the dominant performance here as he grounds everything from the large terminology of the law and chemistry to the every day conversations with citizens. He's partnered by Anne Hathaway who is sidelined for most of the movie. Some great supporting performances come from Tim Robbins, and the always reliable Bill Pullman and Victor Garber. Probably the weakest moments of the film include the brief dialogue involving William Jackson Harper - which I believe is more due to script, than his performance.
Dark Waters is a great, eye opening film. After a lot of recent middle of the road films, this was extremely refreshing and rewarding.
Fisrt with Spotlight and now with Dark Waters. Mark Rufallo does an amazing job as the lead character in these corruption plots. He looks truely involved and makes you feel involved too.
Excellent movie!
Sad the things corporations will do for money and it's still going on to this day.
It's nowhere near as good as Erin Brockovich. I liked it, but only just.
Privé Bioscoop met Mireille via The Anything App
This one's an interesting one. It's not something I'd usually watch but was really good and shed light on a, new to me, true event.
Good movie, good performances, lawyers against big bad company that pollutes. I like the change of the protagonist as the subject matters
Ruffalo's performance and overall work are great! I loved the movie - it was very captivating and stirring. Definitely worth watching, especially if you're looking for a dramatic movie (I personally would not call it a Thriller, tho).
A well-made film, tho its length diminishes the power of the true life tale behind it. Ruffalo is great, of course, and the story will make you think twice before using your kitchen implements.
What a great & timely movie, when I heard DuPont I knew it was about C8, this goes into much depth on how this played out, very compelling story line, nice to see some Corp Lawyers stand up for what's right for a change, few & far between. Ruffalo, Pullman, & Tim Robbins put their credibility & skill behind a movie and subject they are knowledgeable & passionate about.
My god this is a great movie. Its emotional, moving, heartbreaking and gives hope. This should have been nominated for the Academy Award!

Expected a good film from the reviews I'd read.
I was wrong.
It's a brilliant film.
