Dark Places 2015

a little weird that a mother would ever do this. maybe I can't understand it .. anyhow, overall OK, nothing special, nothing too exciting

A slow, but fascinating movie with an interesting mysterious story.

"I was raised feral, and I mostly stayed that way."

The book was interesting but I couldn’t stand the main character (Libby). The movie is no different. There is a lot of talent in this movie but if still wasn’t enough for me to be sucked in.

An intense crime thriller, Dark Places is full of intrigue and suspense. The sole survivor of her family’s massacre, Libby Day is ask to look at the case one last time in order to exonerate her brother (who was convicted of the crime); but the deeper she looks the more she starts to suspect that her brother is hiding something. Starring Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Christina Hendricks, the film has quite the impressive cast. And, the script does a good job at developing the mystery; telling the present day story in parallel with flashbacks to the events that led up to the murders. Still, the pacing can be rather slow at times, and the plot’s a bit complicated. Yet despite its weaknesses, Dark Places is a compelling film.

The nasty things people do over money, good movie.

If you plan to watch this movie, then it needs all your attention from beginning to end, because of the flashbacks and the different characters of each actor. So in between please don't iron, empty the dishwasher or go somewhere to get something... then you will experience a wonderful, exciting movie... enjoy :-) 7/10

Fair enough. "Dark Places" has been my least favorite Gillian Flynn's book, so I was sort of expecting the movie would be my least favorite adaptation of one of her works.

Great movie, just not a top pick for me.

This is like bad fan fiction based on the story of the West Memphis Three but with a feminine twist.

It's weird, because this is more or less a 1:1 adaptation of a solid book - the weakest of the three by Gillian Flynn, but still solid.
Maybe it would have been a little bit better, if I didn't constantly ask myself, who thought Charlize Theron was the right choice for the role of Libby Day, who in the book describes herself as follows:

"I’m barely five foot— four foot, ten inches in truth, but I round up. Sue me. I’m thirty-one, but people tend to talk to me in singsong, like they want to give me fingerpaints."

Yeah, I'm shallow like that. Sue me.

I like a good thriller once in a while, especially on a gloomy/rainy day. What struck my interest was it was a story that involved taking place in 1985. I later learned the cast with the lovely bodacious Christina Hendricks <3, Chloe (Hit Girl), and Charlize (Furiosa) as lead, and that guy that played R from Warm Bodies.
Then I was surprised that the music was scored by one of my favorites, BT!

Not bad mystery thriller but a surprising role for Theron. In real life, as a child, she witnessed her mother killing her abusive father. Perhaps the film was a cathartic role for her.
