Damsel 2024

I like Millie as a actor but this is just a bad movie it is a stinker

loading replies

Hans Zimmer and most of the dragon work were the best part about this. The acting was fine, and the dialogue was mediocre. The cgi and background were terrible in a few parts. The story really annoyed me because although it is a fantasy, it still makes no sense. The last of kind remain in eggs and they get killed as well as your land being invaded, what you doing? Personally, I'm pulling a dracarys and setting fire to the sky's INSTANTLY. I'm only telling you that because it's entirely predictable. This movie tries hard to be 'WoKe', but it's empty. Overall, painstakingly bad storytelling and story.

In "Damsel," Millie Bobby Brown's character Elodie spends much of her time hiding from a dragon in a (far too) dark cave while screaming and moaning loudly. It's a real mystery how the dragon keeps finding her. But seriously, the movie has nothing more to say than "Girl power is rad, right?". Meanwhile, Millie Bobby Brown is certainly not the best actress, but the "Stranger Things" star has definitely been better in the past. Ultimately, though, the script really doesn't give her anything to work with here. Furthermore, the film's visuals are subpar. Boring sets, excessive use of green screen, and extremely dull color grading don't exactly create an exciting adventure atmosphere. At least the dragon looks decent in a few scenes, and Shohreh Aghdashloo does a good job with its voice. But that can't save this forgettable movie, especially as the finale is also a bit blah.

loading replies

It's okay. Probably more towards the 2.5 territory but I'm feeling generous. CGI gets a bit ropey and it becomes a bit too "girl-bossy" towards the end. Still easy enough fare.

loading replies

She screams at every turn
I mean if you’re trying to hide from a dragon in a cave can you at least :asterisk_symbol:try:asterisk_symbol: to muffle your screams?!

loading replies

Netflix are the kings of making movies that are just entertaining enough to sit through for 90 minutes but in the end are just utterly forgettable.

loading replies

Are the positive comments here bots? Surely you can't actually think this is good ... right? The dialogue is no short less of a fan fiction, the story is no much better. What I find more ridiculous than this movie existing is the fact that Princess Elodie decided to take off her "uncomfortable" attire but still keep her corset on the entire movie...for the sake of having a ...badass girlboss outfit? I don't know.

loading replies

Too much hype and too much feminist content. Good way to waist half and hour of our weekend :nerd::ok_hand:

loading replies

Alot of running around and rinse and repeat.

loading replies

I feel like this is exactly what people mean when they say they want an original live-action princess movie instead of all the remakes!
The movie seemed to combine the vibes of a classical fairy tale with heavy doses of the adventure, fantasy and horror genre, while also adding a modern, feminist twist. And I gotta say, the end result was actually pretty cool.

P.S. Am I the only one who kind of wants a dragon sidekick now?

loading replies

I have not watched such a beautiful, wonderful and perfect movie in the last few years. Netflix, the crew and the cast were all great. There is nothing to say about the subject of the movie. They really do this sport. I would like to thank all of them for presenting us this beautiful film. I've been added to my favourites. I don't know if such a good movie will be released this year, but for now it's number one on my list. Well done to everyone for their efforts. :blue_heart: :blue_heart: :blue_heart:

loading replies

Loved Shohreh Aghdashloo as the voice of the dragon.

loading replies

Sad for the female dragon, her lineage has ended. I hope she finds a male in Elodi's country and reproduces again.

loading replies

soooo! she becomes Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons (Game of Thrones) :joy::joy:

loading replies

Acting bad, sets bad. CGI bad, action bad, plot not too bad. If I was six years old I would have tolerated it a whole lot better… oh and Millie does a lot too much grunting, huffing and puffing.

loading replies

Damsel is a flawed movie but Brown is good and the visuals are sometimes impressive.

loading replies

The best part for me was the CGI dragon.
MBB is ok as the lead, one minor thing that bothered me was that I noticed she suddenly had more lip gloss in that egg scene.
Angela Bassett felt so out of place, who honestly thought that she would be a good choice to play Ray Winstone's wife and her English accent wasn't believable.
Was Robin Wright not bothered doing an English accent or if she couldn't do one why cast her, weird decision.

Overall it's nothing special and is unmemorable.

loading replies

The movie should be called Hide and Seek with a Dragon. The film hooked me at the beginning, but then it got very boring in the middle and very predictable in several parts and I thought they could have done better with that ending, they could have ended the film right after the confrontation with the dragon and the dragon's CGI, it wasn't that bad. Overall it was an OK film.

loading replies

As long as you're not expecting great cinema, this is pretty fun. The material is underwhelming and often laughable (the dialogue especially), but the production design is solid, and MBB does a great job with what she's given.

loading replies

Didn't expect much going in sinse this is a Netflix original but color me surprised, I mostly enjoyed this. The Bridgerton-esque first act is a bit of a turn-off at first but after that it's a suspenceful ride till the end.

What really saved it by far is the amount of dragon sequences it delivered. The dragon is threatening and effective, it's tense even when it isn't on-screen. Good dragon design and effects but the voice takes getting used to (not very badass). Millie Bobby-Brown did alright in the role, nothing great but still alright. A few satisfying kills, nice sets, nice costumes, a few twists I didn't see coming and satisfying conclusion.

The worst thing about this for me was the decision making from mostly everyone (even the dragon) it's frustrating. It gets repetitive fast too, an endless cat and mouse chase that uses the same tricks over and over. Could have easily trimmed down the runtime. Unexpected twists aside, the final outcome of this was predictable to me and some scenes get predictable from the moment they start because of foreshadowing.

loading replies

First act was rough but things picked up and it was rather a pleasant surprise.

So I guess Ray Winstones interpretation of Lord Bayford comes from the East (London) part of the North?
And Angela Bassets Lady must come from the very, very, very eastern part. Across the Atlantic part North.
And because representation is important I guess the Dragon immigrated to the kingdom of Aurea for the job opportunities as she obviously struggles with English as her first language.
As the first half of the movie was Millie running through badly lit caves I'll have to say I liked the second half better... which is Millie running through slightly better lit caves.

loading replies

Ok then... The girl who found the way out came back to draw the rest of the map??? Even if she didn't go out, why did she paint that beatiful sun? Was she trying to cheat to the next girls??? (fu* bi**)
Dragons producing fire can burn themselves outside and not inside? What point is the bound??? Nose, lips?
Why did they kill little dragons??? How did they know about their existence? Did they go picnic to a dragon's cave every sunday? How did they guess the day that the creatures were born?

Another empty movie, bad for a drama, not comedy, short as adventure or action movie, far to an epic show, the usual these days.

loading replies

if there was an award for making the most mid movie, this would win first place

loading replies

The trailer got a 9

loading replies

Decently entertaining fantasy horror romp, and the costume designer absolutely pops off in the opening 40 minutes. Better-than-expected popcorn Netflix fodder to turn your brain off to.

loading replies

Definitely not what I expected, but Millie is an awesome leading lady. Robin Wright is magic as the villain - no surprises there!

loading replies

This movie is perfect example of woke. I think they completed movie in maybe a month and this movie is just shot for the sake of womens day, I mean man come on. The story is not well written, there are lot of flaws in the movie and mainly the concept of forcing people to watch Girl Boss is ridiculous, milly bobby browns worst acting..Everything is just for womens day, If you want to watch this movie just watch it as an womens empowerment advertisement...I recommend don't watch it..

loading replies

wasn't it easier to grab any girl and smear real blood on her and that's it? Why are they going to lose money with marriages?
Added to the fairly fair special effects and the typical story of a suffering heroine....the only one I remember who did it well was Angelina Jolie, the rest very poorly.

loading replies

plenty of illogical moments (the screaming, the not communicating the blood part sooner, to name a couple) but it's good fantasy and the acting and music is excellent. also, breaking news: in 2024 there are still men out there with masculinity so fragile it can be fractured by a female protagonist in a netflix fairytale

loading replies

There's enough freshness in this film so it's not a sad cliche.

Angela Bassett was very much wasted in this show. Ray Winston got his scene and she got stabbed and "I'll manage." Not exactly award winning lines.

loading replies

In general it's a really average/weak movie, the story and plot is uninspired and thin, it relies too much in the girl boss mechanism so the survival aspect comes too easy for the damsel, also her energy levels just restore too much quickly like a videogame character. The special effects are a mixed bag, there's really good sequences with the dragon but there's also other ones that are noticeable bad. The creature is well realized and it talks but in the end is forgettable. The supporting characters are just that, supporting and forgettable. Also the amount of fluid the dragon can create, it's unbelievable and unrealistic. There's also black and Asian characters to balance the diversity box. This movie functions only as a vehicle for Millie bobby brown die hard fans nothing more. It doesn't work as a horror movie (watch The Descent instead), or a survival movie ( watch First Blood instead) or a dragon fantasy fairy tale (watch Reign of Fire or Dragonslayer).

loading replies

It's a fun but forgettable fantasy movie. The world building and the plot are pretty mediocre but there are some interesting ideas that make this movie enjoyable if you don't have many expectations

loading replies

:clap::clap: That’s how you portray a strong female lead. The horror elements were unexpected but welcome. The score and the cinematography gave chills. The story does feel incomplete and the start was a bit slow, instead they could’ve showed her mother and her learning how to fight.

Please let me know the make up she is using!!! Entertaining

It's an okay watch and Millie Bobby Brown is a good enough actrice to somewhat carry the movie.
Two things that annoyed the hell out of me:

  1. Actors/Actrices with bleached teeth in a medieval fantasty movie
  2. The dragons sounds like a chain-smoking lady
loading replies

A truly entertaining movie. Millie Bobby Brown never fails to deliver. Two thumbs up.

loading replies

I'm enjoying this movie, after a long day :thumbsup_tone3:

loading replies

Just saw the trailer on this one, wow it looks really bad!
CGI muscles on her ? Really ?

loading replies

Millie is up to her usual self here in that she’s doing the best with what she’s been given. I still can’t get over hearing Ray Winstone as a noble mediaeval lord with a Cockney accent!:flushed:

loading replies

Aside from that it's a nothing burger story and a chick flick, this shit was hard

loading replies

The story is ok, but the movie is going sooooooo slowly.

loading replies

I know a lot of people don't like this movie or find it mediocre at best but this had everything that I just love. I truly believe that Milly Bobby Brown is just beginning in her wonderful acting career and it is amazing to see her grow throughout her roles on screen. The costumes were delicate and intricate and very reminiscent of the period in which this was set.

Despite dragons being one of the most popular fantasy creatures it is actually hard to find a good piece of work that contains them but this had that. I will say that the film was a bit lackluster in it's first 20 minutes but truly started to ramp up and became intense and action packed. I would recommend this

loading replies

A movie can be watch in 15 min.
the rest you can confident to sleep at the rest.
First 10 min and the last 5 min

loading replies

Does anyone remember this coming out, lol? And it was not that long ago (as I'm writing this).

loading replies

This is not a bad movie, although many people think so. My wife and I enjoyed it very much and we thought it was a good vehicle for Millie Bobby Brown, who we love. It was just a good movie, but there's nothing wrong with that. Keep being Millie, Millie. You've just begun.

loading replies

Not bad, even if she has the help of the script.

loading replies

Lesson of this movie: You should have a long hard talk with a recently man-eating dragon you are taking out into the world right after it shot napalm onto a whole castle of people. I mean how trusting can you be?

Not a fan. The first half is nothing. Nothing happens for 50minutes. The rest of the movie is running from a dragon. Acting is decent enough. Score would have been lower.

loading replies

A disappointment.

'Damsel' has the right ingredients but unfortunately fails to deliver. Millie Bobby Brown leads the cast in alright fashion, her performance in the lead role is serviceable. She is probably the only positive that I hold for this 2024 film sadly.

My main negative is the special effects, which are quite distracting throughout - barely any of it comes across as convincing. The dragon looks OK, but the way it moved sometimes didn't seem right. Speaking of that creature, Shohreh Aghdashloo is a neat piece of casting on paper, though her voice was not the most fitting in actuality. The lighting also felt odd.

On the cast, away from Brown, Robin Wright is very meh in her role, while Angela Bassett feels extremely wasted. There is, at least, a nice end credits song from the ace Lykke Li, "Ring of Fire" is admittedly incomparable to "No Rest for the Wicked" but it is pretty good all the same!

loading replies

Imagine this is a parallel universe where Millie Bobby Brown is the first Targaryen. The one who befriended a dragon and so their bloodline continues like this.

And you know Cersei Lannister, she is here too playing the same role as the villain. And yes, many good characters die suddenly in this film (just like in GoT)

It is fun to watch 'movie'. Millie is a good actress but she is still learning. The opening part is all smiles and smiles... and it is a bit too much but the fun starts soon after the wedding. And that is till where you must tolerate the fantasy. After that is good fun and the film takes you in an incredible journey of struggle and sacrifice. The ending was a bit too lovely, but overall it is a job well done.

Giving it 6 out of 10, for its cinematography, acting, special effects and music. The first part and second part seem like two different directors directed it.

It is good and a worthy watch if you like fantasy films.

loading replies

Like gay bukake: Come on guys!

This wasn't nearly as bad as y'all made it out to be. A female-forward action/fantasy flick with good special effects, pacing, and cinematography always goes down smoothly. Seriously, what's not to like?

Honestly a very safe and "by the book" fantasy dragon movie. Like there was care taken in visuals and it has a certain quality to it, but nothing remarkable or groundbreaking. Would recommend for a nice little mindless after work movie.

loading replies

Netflix, the king of garbage, throwaway movies. Nothing original, just rehash after rehash of already existing movies. Poor writing, ridiculously abundant plotholes. Just the worst.
Their only redeeming quality, they look good. But that's all.

loading replies

Poor actors, what you need to do to eat and pay the bills..
Hope authors will be back soon from their strike...

loading replies

It was a solid effort. I think that they could've made it more dramatic and less of an action-adventure, but other than that, I didn't really have any complaints. Millie Bobby Brown was solid in a difficult role, b/c she didn't really have anyone to play off of.

loading replies

Don't mess with milly! Nice movie the tension was good.

loading replies

pure shyte. where have all the good movies gone. not a wonder I'm watching decades old classics with actual good stories, cinematography, real effects and amazing actors.

loading replies

Trash. Only watch if you want background noise, for cleaning or doing something else.

loading replies

Some things were okayish, generic plot that could have been interesting, but it truly didn't deliver. Millie too was okay, I don't think she had much to work with. Predictable. I don't mind the girl boss genre, but it has to be somewhat realistic and cohesive to the plot.
The slow walking with explosions in the background... lol

impressive. MBB is really a princess.

loading replies

It’s a bit slow if you are hoping for an 80’s like Fantasy movie. Millie Bobby Brown is of course good though. I am sure some will be happy it is as advertised, Enola Holmes with a dragon.

loading replies

At least the score was good...

loading replies

Not much of a story but boy is she pretty! Her costume got funny towards the end too :D

loading replies

A pretty good fantasy movie that is executed very well by the cast. Script wise it might be a bit thin at times, but then again most fantasy movies have the same problem. It has a good mix of action and conversations, with some interesting surprises here and there. Not the best CGI at times, but absolutely watchable.

Millie can stretch her acting skills a bit, and she jumps effortlessly between being soft and vulnerable and kicking ass. Brooke is also playing quite well, while the rest of the cast are a bit two-dimensional, even if that is because their characters don't get that much screen time. Shohreh bring the dragon to life, and she balances nicely between the terrifying and the likeable.

The story is familiar, but yet feels fresh since it has a different angle in many ways.

I think it is well worth watching.

loading replies

It was a good movie for me. The comments kind of made me not want to watch but it was definitely captivating. I don’t really see a sequel to it but I’d give it a watch if they did lol

loading replies

The acting was not good. Storyline had some good moments but was basically MEH. Is this a MUST WATCH? On Sunday when you are back from church you are waiting for Monday. Then this will be something to watch. Do not expect much.

loading replies

This kept me glued all through. Nice script and a captivating act. Good Job

loading replies

"how to train your Dragon". Live action version.
Not Millie's best movie. Don't expect too much. Easy watch, Millie V The Dragon  with an unexpected twist at the end.

loading replies

This is DEFINITELY one of those movies where the best 3 minutes are in the trailer. Looks very promising at first but drops of a cliff after about the first 15 minutes from where the story has more holes in it than a string vest! I’m assuming a lot of the rave reviews are sponsored by Netflix because this was pure drek.

loading replies

I enjoyed this film a lot. Millie Bobby Brown is definitely the star here but the rest of the cast is notable too. Angela Bassett and Robin Wright are a welcome addition even though they don‘t get a lot of screen time. The story is interesting enough and the CGI is very good. So overall a fun and exciting watch. Well done Netflix.

loading replies

If you had seen -Dragonslayer- then you will laugh on this one !

loading replies

Pretty ok fantasy movie if you ask me! Nothing too special but it’s a fun watch. Looks great too during the parts that aren’t so dark you quite literally can’t see a single thing.

loading replies

Not an entirely bad way to waste a couple of hours, but nothing "great" about it. Too much feminist shit, obviously. All male characters were weak, cowards or unimportant. All female were the real bosses. Stupid crap

The design of the dragon was nice though

Royals are baddies as usual.
Not a single character growth except for Millie Bobby cutting her hair.
Lots of Running and Screaming inside a cave while fighting and winning against a dragon like Rambo on Steroid.
Burning the castle and not giving a damn about all the people inside (man, woman, and children).
She isn't in distress, shes the distress

The End.

Damsel - :heart:x8

I think I just watched the live-action version of HowTo Train Your Dragon - lol.

I don't understand why many people seem to dislike this movie. It was very good. It was exciting and quite entertaining.

I think maybe the younger generations simply do not understand movies and how to watch them.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

It was entertaining enough. Standard heroine fantasy script. Nothing new.

loading replies

7/10 good

In all honesty it maybe should be a 6/10 but I gave them a extra point for trying…
It’s a fair tale with a modern day twist, it’s not what I’d call woke or politically correct, but there’s definitely hints of it in the movie.
But it doesn’t really detract from enjoying it…
The story is good
The acting is passable
The ending is fitting
The cgi again is passable, but does slip into being jankie at times, but for the budget it’s damn good.
It’s well worth a watch at least once

Good to know Netflix is still capable of making a great movie.

I'm so happy for Millie Bobby Brown. The little kid from Stranger Things has grown up to become a promising leading actress. This movie felt like a game.
