Creep 2014

Probably the best found-footage movie I've seen. Creep is an accurate title as it's more creepy than scary or spooky.

Creep can't really escape the narrative weakness that many "found footage" films suffer from - the suspension of disbelief required to accept the rationale of the "filmmaker" to carry on filming no matter the way in which the plot develops. That being said, the central conceit actually works quite well here - there is a deep sense of unease that is developed in the film, but the film manages to just about keep the audience on side with the central character's dilemma of conforming to social niceties in the face of an antagonist that he clearly recognises as creepy, but rationalises the behaviour as socially inept rather than dangerous. There are a couple of clever tricks employed in the use of the footage that work really well and the final act and reveal to show how the footage came to be "found" is a nice twist on the usual abrupt finale that most films like this employ.

Seeing that Mark Duplass is in this movie it's save to call this is "mumblecore found-footage"... if you're expecting something else you won't like it very much. The movie does a good job for most of it's runtime keeping the weird tone up (besides the annoying attempts at jumpscares), the finale however lacks the punch it needed.

I didn't have high expectation before watching this. It was pretty enjoyable and fun to watch. I can see myself watching this again in the future.

This movie is different. I really liked how this was done. You know there is something completely off with Josef and yet nothing truly horrific is revealed until almost the end of it.

Title checks out. Has an eerie vibe to it throughout the movie and as many say has some jumpscares but I found them not too over the top. I'd recommend it for a one time watch.

This film manages to do a lot of things right with just two actors and a found footage style. There's almost no gore, barely any swearing barely any violence, this film really works well as we see the layers of Josef unravel and his true intentions revealed. I enjoyed it. 3.5/5

Entertaining for one watch, if you don't judge it on originality and just accept the weirdo. Dupass is always good to watch.

haha wow, this never got passed dark comedy for me. if your weakness is jump scares, then this is a horror film for you.

ps. the filming location is ridiculously beautiful.

The film doesn't pick up until late but Mark Duplass is great to watch as persuasive weirdo.. It's not really a horrorfilm per se, but Josef is a troubled and intriguiging person to keep me interested.. Great acting , but not for everyone...

wish it embraced the black comedy more

Dude should have probably left once tubby time was suggested.

Don't use your remote control on this.
There is NOTHING in this movie.
I kept watching it thinking something will happen but nope...
The last shot showing the cupboard is cool but not worth wasting 1h21m for it.

Solid indie. There are lulls w the pacing and it feels like it could just play in the background at times. Didn't always capture my full attention, but when it did it was quite good. I'd seen this on tons of best of indie horror lists for almost a decade now so finally scrolled past it tonight and popped it on. 6.2. I've always liked Duplass and he's cast perfectly here as Creepcity. If you don't mind super low budget Indies that are unsettling check it out.
I'll check out the sequel shortly.

This is probably the best found footage style film that I’ve seen up to this point. The story is awesome.

This is a creepy work of art and it’s pretty awesome

An interesting movie with some cool visuals. But overall the movie is quite lacking in my opinion, and the ending didn't add up really.

This movie should have been called 'Creep & Jump Scare' because yes there's a lot of creeping about with the camera (which is creepy) but then there's a jump scare. Rinse and repeat. The jump scare is like the cheapest scare there is. Still, effective (especially the first, but all of this is hung up on a pretty thin plot and lack of character development; missed the opportunity to give Josef some kind of rhyme or reason to his insanity. He's just crazy.

What an interesting idea for a movie to have it seem like a low budget non fiction film filmed by an individual on their phone, but in reality that is just the type of filming it is because it was still a big production film. For those who are intrigued/interested by premises of "oh your so dumb to go and do that, its straight out of a slasher film" type of movies than this is your movie, however, the director does a great job of hiding and shying the audience away from the predictable outcome that the main character is going to get murdered. Towards the end of the film it makes you think that "oh, thats it, thats not that creepy or what I thought," but then the last 10 mins of the film will reverse your thinking of that was a waste of my time, as it gives the viewer a surprising, yet originally expected ending that makes this film a decent watch.

Creep is a found footage movie were not much happens but it still finds a way to keep you hooked. The runtime of 75 minutes also really helps. it also shows you a new way to film Found Footage films especially with the help of a great lead in Mark Duplass.

Mark Duplass is wonderfully creepy here as Josef! Especially his alter ego Peachfuzz. And those "cheap jump scares" it fits his character. The scene in the bathtub is also so weird! And the way he swings the axe at the end? DAMN! And his collection of "movies". He's one creepy serial killer who always is in control of the situation.

Anyway, I won't say much more, but this one is worth watching because of some of the twists and the performance by Mark Duplass.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Creep’:

  1. Just when I thought I knew where this was going, I was wrong. Super unpredictable.
  2. Mark Duplass does creepy incredibly well.
  3. Aaron couldn’t have been more frustratingly dumb.

This isn't a horror movie, it is a thriller, as a thriller is really really good, but it does'nt have nothing of a horror movie.

I literally fell asleep. Weak sauce indeed.

Creep is probably one of the best found footage movies to ever be released. The gimmick has become very tiresome for horror fans over the years but this movie manages to feel fresh despite a outdated concept. Mark Duplass absolutely blew me away as the mysterious "creep". Both Patrick Brice's films are complete gold so far.

Wasn't terrible. Did just enough to keep me watching for the most part. The "strangeness or weirdness of the movie was intriguing enough. The finale was very lacking however in my opinion.

It was weird and creepy since the very beginning, I give it that.

What a hunk of junk... If I had a stalker like this I would've kicked his ass AGES ago. Come at me BRO!

Yes. It may be hard to accept for a lot of people, but found footage sub-genre is very much alive still. =)
