Its a treat to watch.
One of my top vampire movies of all time!!!
Honestly way better than I expected it to be. A rather refreshing take on vampires.
One of the more unique takes on the old vampire story. A little like Let the Right One In, yet with a dash of Interview with the Vampire.
No fangs to be found here. No gothic castles. No sparkling in the sunlight. Byzantium has a tone of film noir, and perhaps wartime romance. This is every bit a drama, but there is still some bloody violence. We spend the bulk of our time with Clara, and Eleanor, in modern day, with jumps into the past to flesh out their stories.
I could see this as a great movie for people who don't like typical vampire movies, while at the same time being a breath of fresh air for those who have seen every other vampire film under the sun.
Well worn vampire plights are explored in this story, where the characters are filled with regret and yearning for a more normal existence. There's a good dynamic between the leads, and it's all handled well enough to be interesting. I liked the shifting between 18th century and modern times.
It´s interesting what kind of movies you watch when you want to follow the carreer of a certain actress/actor.
I´m not into the vampire theme at all, never have, but this is different. It might have been better had they avoided the term "Vampire" altogether. They could easily have come up with another concept. I like the idea of Eleanor not running around killing people but rather beeing the "Angel of Death" that comes to you when your time is up and deliveres you to the other side. Even the almost mandatory love story wasn´t too cheesy. The Movie itself is well produced but the pace is very slow especially at the beginning so you need to be patient for it to unfold. A little less running time might have helped but then again it propably was what the director intented.
Althought this was only a part of my Saoirse movie journey I´d say this is not the worst movie to watch.
Image and sound 4.5 / 5: I really liked this version of vampires, as Neil Jordan also takes
Not that great, but Saoirse Ronan is good as usual, and I notice a little Whedon influence (old boys club making up random rules who can or can't do certain things). Probably enjoyable, when vampire stuff is your thing.
Boredom. The film is not based either scenario nor the characters, and the climate will not keep everything. And there was potential.
Slowpaced, but the few revealing scenes of Gemma make it worth your while.
Really enjoyed this film, this film contained gorgeous shots and lots of gravitas.
very enjoyable Vampire movie. a bit comparable to Let Me In, totally not comparable to Underworld or anything like that. Great movie.
And Saoirse Ronan is absolutely adorable
pointed nails of justice...
'nuff said
This was a pretty good movie. It's an interesting take on the vampire genre. A mom and daughter vampire duo, each living very different lives out together. Worth giving a watch.
Byzantium explores what vampirism would actually be like

Byzantium is by far the best vampire movie/show in recent history. It's a very specific genre that has been milked dry in the past few years but Byzantium makes it feel new again. It's excellently acted, directed, and written. The strongest part of this film was definitely the mythology that they invented around the vampirism, it is meaningful, interesting, and unique. It really is a beautiful movie but it is also slow paced at the beginning so you have to commit yourself to it and see it through to the pay off.
