Bull Durham 1988

Robbins and Costner share a hilarious chemistry. Some really fun moments and a bunch of quirky characters make this a joy. Even when it's just as much about relationships as it is about baseball.

Classic baseball comedy is probably overrated but is fun enough to watch. I just don't like Sarandon in the film, so I had a hard time with the flick but if you like her character, you will really love it. Even with my dislike for her, I still enjoyed the film.

A woman makes a baseball team's season more enjoyable.

"The world is made for people who aren't cursed with self awareness."

Seeing that this was part of the Criterion Collection, I had to check it out. Not that I need an excuse to watch a Kevin Costner movie. This was not what I was expecting: Good humor, Baseball isn’t the center of the story, and it’s a romantic comedy.

To a modern viewer this movie may feel like it's missing something. Part of that may be because it ushered in an era of amazing baseball movies. Sports montages, superstitious players, etc. are a cliche now, but were much more unique when this came out.

Personally, I could have done with a little less of Annie's metaphysical dialogue. I don't know if the lines aren't delivered right or they just don't really have anything to do with baseball. Other than that it's a great movie that feels familiar if you've seen any of the big baseball movies from the 90's.

A decent baseball movie but nothing special. Kevin Costner is good.
