A solid thriller with John Boyega channeling a young Denzel, the movie is mostly held by his performance. It did make me want to read up a bit on the real story and it’s heartbreaking
Definitely reminded me of Denzel in John Q, even looked like him in some scenes. Great movie about what it gets are going through. The government needs to do better when they return home. Actually had to read up on the story and the sniper want even supposed to fire, he murdered Brian, and guess what.... He wasn't found guilty.
Good movie, but moves a little slow. What the police were doing in setting up a tent and taking 1/2 the day to actually get there is mind-blowing.
It's hard for me to grasp the mentality of anyone in their right mind wanting to sign up and join the armed forces seeing that there are so many ways the government screw you over once they've used you up and cast you aside. And don't give me this crap about "defending freedom" and "protecting America from enemies" - the enemies of America are in D.C.
If the real Brian Brown-Easley is anything like the part played by John Boyega then the world has lost a decent human being.
Is it a prerequisite now that all 911 operators are fucking idiots? Jesus she would make anyone blow themselves up. Even the police took forever to get there lol
I mean if I’m going to get robbed i hope he’s as nice as this guy lol. Do the crime but still be respectful especially to females. :thumbsup_tone3:
Yo the way he helped the customer on the phone lol this movie is a gem. Should go down as a classic
How the fuck did the cops let an employee walk up to fucking bank!!! Jesus
Im not sure yet if it was a good thing that he basically copied denzel? He doesn’t normally talk like this in all his other rolls. It’s kind of weird like he sat down and watch all of denzel movies before this roll. Can you plagiarize an actor? Is that even a thing? I will say he looks and sounds more like denzels son than his actual son lol which makes since seeing as I’m sure his son wants to be his own person. I guess this is our new younger denzel.
John Q clone. Which is not a bad thing since there hasnt been a good thriller like that since that i can remember
So they talk to this man once and already got tents and shit outside lol idk whats worst the no urgency from the cops or the fact they took time to setup all this bs first. You can do both at the same time. Seem like they playing damn games with someone thats coming off unhinged
What are you talking about. He did call y’all more than once and y’all keep putting him on hold among other shit. So yes he called the news. Journalist is the only competent people left in the world when it comes to catching criminals.
People will be getting to these breaking points more and more if things dont change.
What a bunch of idiots. Why would you not let his ex wife answer the phone. I swear they trying to antagonize this man which goes with the code for sure. They’re looking for any excuse.
Money is not money miss. Its about the principal are they not understanding this man!!
Y’all killed the man as usual. What if he had a dead man switch? Bunch of fucking idiots. Fuck the hostages right?
I know one thing they wasn’t going sit in my house like I’m a prisoner
Why were they putting evidence tags on the snipers nest? Thats not a real thing, all cops look out for each other so someone gave the order and someone executed it seems to me if anyone should be held responsible its the one who gave the order. But we all know that will never see the light of day.
Another case of wrongful action by law officials. It's also another case of the government ignoring the plight of others. Boyega gives a standout turn in this provocative drama that, sadly, has a story that will likely repeat itself.
John Beyoga was incredible in this. Such a sad story and made me angry about how vets are treated, and I’m not American.
It was the right length too as there wasn’t much to the story, which I thought was the right choice. No need to add filler and over sensationalized BS for something like this.
Good movie in terms of exposing a bit of injustice, but you've got to ask who really gains by this? It's really just more profit for those who already have, made off the lives of the broken who have (and had) little to nothing - nought all changes for the better.
Anyway, 7/10 for the effort made and care the actors gave to attempt to effect positive change.
Heart wrenching awful story. Phenomenally performed by Boyega and Williams especially. RIP to the latter.
RIP to Lance Corporal Brian Easley. What a brutal and broken system and this is just one well known example of one tormented man going to extremes after feeling powerless in his struggle. For the movie there were definitely pacing issues and they left a lot unexplained. potential spoiler
What if he had a dead man's switch? How sure we're they he didn't. Nothing was explained in that regard. 6.6 for me.
Sad movie. What fathers will do for their families. Do not watch it for entertainment. THIS IS A MUST WATCH! 10/10
R.I.P: Michael Kenneth Williams. You will be missed.

Buoyed by an absolutely stellar cast giving it their all, Breaking hits hard. Boyega of course is the centerpiece, infusing the role with heart aching humanity. He even gets you laughing in this tense, sad film, and you can't look away. And Michael K Williams... forever one of the greats, elevating his role with that earnest heart, no pretension or walls around him, he makes it feel real, like he truly does care. What I'd give to have him reassuring me. Just watching him work got me tearing up, having to accept he's gone too soon all over again. The fact that his final scene is one of the last we'll have of him only makes it all the harder hitting.
Then there's Beharie, so underrated and bringing so many complex emotions to what could've been a simple role. She's honest, angry, empathetic, and above all else desperate to just get back home to her son. Leyva makes you ache for her and want to protect her, and Britton takes a simple journalist role and gives it her usual heartfelt spin. Everyone here is giving their best, and the people behind the camera match their energy. They know how to let these stars shine, how to capture every nuance on their faces. On top of that, there's some graceful transition shots and some tasteful choices made I really appreciate.
The biggest weakness is that it could've hit its themes a little harder, could've come with a little more bite, and tightened up the ending to send us home. But the performances alone make it a must see.

It's been a month since I watched this movie and I've been thinking about it daily ever since...
This is such a tragic and heartbreaking story. So many mistakes have been made, it's so unfair, this shouldn't have happened.
And the worst part is that there never came any justice either.
