Super cute movie, much classic!
Big is such a fun, charming movie. It’s essentially what you get when you take all of the good stuff from Shazam and amplify them by a good few cranks. It’s such a feel-good movie that just puts a smile on your face whenever you watch it.
It’s a film that really makes you love Tom Hanks as an actor, where he shows off his aptitude to play in both a dramatic role and a light-hearted, (literally) childlike one.
And if there’s any scene that perfectly captures what I’m talking about, it’s the giant toy piano scene. Really, if you can’t/don’t want to watch this movie, please do yourself a favor and watch that scene on YouTube.
9.2/10
Hopefully Zoltar let him keep his man sized junk
Brilliant comedic performance by Hanks, and just a wonderful feel-good atmosphere throughout the entire film. The kind you’d watch to cheer yourself up after a bad day - charming and wholesome, with a few giggles along the way.
Big was charming and lots of fun. Even though it was primarily a comedy, it still had some very sweet and touching moments sprinkled throughout. Tom Hanks was brilliant acting like a twelve-year-old adult and one of the better roles I've seen him in. I loved the floor piano scene. The extended edition did seem to be a bit too long for my taste though.
Whenever I think of a toystore I think of the scene with the giant piano XD definitely a 10!
Tom Hanks is a master at pulling off naïve innocence. I remember that I used to wonder how he could pull off Forrest Gump so authentically without it veering into offensively bad territory, like a lot of other actors who've tried to pull off playing a developmentally disabled person.
But Big pretty much answers that old question of mine; he figuratively embodied the concept of a 13-year-old waking up with an adult's body so effortlessly that, in hindsight, it's not surprising that he managed to do something similar while playing a developmentally disabled adult with a similar naïve innocence.
A movie only able to be the great staple it is because of Tom Hanks himself. A movie that brings genuine joy and fun. A good carefree movie to watch on a do-nothing-day.
This movie aged like milk. It started so cute and funny and wholsesome and very quickly devolved into something I can only describe as "icky." I wish the movie had exclusively focused on the fun concept of a kid becoming an adult and running a toy company and didnt try to force the romance between a 12/13 year old kid and a woman in her 30s. The fact that they had sex and then when she found out he was a kid she told him to keep her number and find her in 10 years brings the "ick" factor all the way up to 11. The acting was great, the piano scene was amazing, and the general concept was interesting as hell, but I probably won't be watching again.
The film has aged badly, today it would rather have uphill with such controversial moments in the script.

Big is a classic 80's film that remains an all-time favorite for many. The storyline is unique, telling the story of a young boy who magically transforms into an adult overnight. Tom Hanks delivers a fantastic performance, perfectly capturing the childlike wonder and innocence of his character while also portraying the struggles of adulthood. The film's themes of growing up and finding oneself are relatable and heartwarming, making it a timeless classic that appeals to audiences of all ages.
First time seeing it and I thought it was a decent movie. Not sure if this is one of the original plots for kid gets big and becomes executive at a toy store but it’s a good take. My problem is with the ending. It did not feel like the ending was realistic like not even movie realistic. He turned back into into a kid and the mom just accepted he returned and the police just ended their search? What about the new police report for adult Josh?
Be careful what you wish for, you can get it.
wow tom hanks can a play a kid too!! is there anything this guy cannot do? the childish antics and facial expressions were amazing also the piano scene is my favourite ... such a nice film though the romantic angle kinda didnt fit considering Josh was only 13
Big would go on to get critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike and would even get recognition from the academy awards and the golden globes as it’s been nominated in several categories, mainly for Tom Hank’s performance. This is a must-watch for anybody whose a fan of comedy or Tom Hanks as an actor. Its well-crafted storyline and lovable characters make this movie a classic that may not hold up in some aspects but sure holds up in others.

After yesterday's Straw Dogs I needed something lighter. Something just plain fun and I knew I couldn't go wrong with Penny Marshall's Big. I think I've seen this one before when I was younger because I clearly remembered the Zoltar machine and the scene with the giant piano but other then that, my mind was blank.
Anyway Tom Hanks really shines here as a kid in a "big" body. I just love his scenes with Elizabeth Perkins, they are so heartwarming. So sad to see her being left alone at the end as Josh (Tom Hanks) returns to being a kid. But the rest of the movie you are smiling how Josh discovers the grown up world and starts working at a toy-company.
Big is just one fun 100 minutes to spend. Carefree like intended.
A nice movie with a great performance from a young Tom Hanks.
You should know the story by now - a lonely kid dreams of skipping forward to adulthood, gets his wish and finds out it's not all he thought it would be. It's a super-simple, overdone formula that somehow works marvelously in spite of its shortcomings. As an audience, we're asked to sweep a lot under the rug while the plot runs its course, but because the production has so much heart, passion and genuine innocence, it's bafflingly easy to let go and enjoy the ride.
Tom Hanks is to thank for a great big chunk of that, precisely nailing the mannerisms, facial ticks and naivete of a six-foot child playing in a grown-up's world. It's a major step forward for his career, which had been quagmired in slapstick and melodrama up to this point, and he runs away with the opportunity. The story is sweet, silly and earnest, fun as a fish-out-of-water comedy but also loaded with an armload of deeper meanings - a great reminder of how silly we act throughout our lives, both as children and as adults.
It's impossible not to smile when Hanks and Robert Loggia play a duet on that giant Macy's foot-piano, even if the scene's been played to death ever since. Really, really good stuff that stands the test of time.
I forgot how funny this film was. I was completely hooked even though I have already seen it. Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins are just perfect. Cannot beat the piano scene!
A very charming and fun movie with nice moments sprinkled throughout, and Tom Hanks gives a very underated performance.

It's hard these days to remember what a fantastic comic actor Hanks was, but this is a film that would not work without his performance, which completely sells the idea of a grown-up child. The idea itself would suggest a focus on comedy, but what also makes the film work is that it isn't focused on gags and laugh out loud moments - rather the film plays a fine balance exploring both the fun of the character getting his wish, but equally what has been lost. The film is rightly lauded as a wonderful reminder of the inner child in all of us, perfectly encapsulated in the classic piano scene, but its the focus on character moments, such as Josh's first night alone, that lend the film a poignancy that elevates it to more than simply a clever concept.
