Beyond Re-Animator 2003

Where the hell was Dan at??

Such a wild a wacky sequel! It actually further advances the mythology in some interesting ways, which is more than I could say for the last one. There is some awful acting from a few actors that are forced into the production, but that doesn't stop this from being loads of fun.

Dr Herbert is back and he's still insane, which is good too watch Jeffrey play. As soon as he holds that syringe full of fluid you know he's still possessed with the same re-animation vision. The setting is all new and it's a new kind of movie entirely. Does it deliver? Not really. It wasn't exciting to watch. It's a movie. A horror movie. I expect some events to occur that thrill. It didn't excel at a particular style either. The script wasn't inventive enough, scenes could have been cut out entirely and not missed. Lighting and atmosphere? Nah. I'm not comparing it to the other movies either but on it's own. So if you're not going to have crazy gore, campy interaction and weird situation like he first two, don't just replace them with nothing.
Yuzna has been involved in some great movies. He used to push the envelope a bit and go there... now he makes below average horror it seems. I know he prefers this movie over Bride but I think he's just deluding himself. Sorry BrIan. Find a good script.
