Beware! The Blob 1972

hahahahhahahhahahhahahhahaha!!!!! This was absolutely awful…so awful, in fact, that it was FUN! I remember (I'm dating myself here but that's fine) seeing the trailer for this on my grandmother's old black and white TV and wishing I could go see it when it showed in the theaters (I was 10 years old, I think.) This isn't the first time I've watched it but watching it this time was like watching it for the very first time, and it was absolutely horrible...and so much fun to watch. Understand, this is not a movie you sit through for "chills, thrills, and spills"; this is a movie you sit through because you're bored out of your skull with all the other stuff but you just want something moving on the screen to occupy your mind…and that's all you're gonna get out of this one. At times, the acting was so incredibly horrid that I actually wondered if they were doing it on purpose. I know by today's standards, this film is tagged as "horror/comedy/sci-fi" but trust me: when it was first released in theaters, it was NOT designed to be a "comedy". It was, first and foremost, a "horror" movie. The only horror about this one, though, it that it somehow made its way through everything and finally got aired on the big screen. Do yourself a favor and skip this one unless , like me, you're just completely bored and want to watch something so terrible that it makes you laugh. This one alternates between making you want to turn it off and curse yourself for ever wasting a moment on in, or keep watching because it's like a train-wreck that you can't keep your eyes off of. You will see a very young Larry Hagman ("J.R. Ewing" of Dallas fame) along with a young Cindy Williams (of Laverne & Shirley ) and even a younger Burgess Meredith ("Mick" of the first three Rocky movies). But apart from those brief glimpses, there's not an awful lot more to see…but there's a lot of awful. Watch it for the fun of it. It's hilarious.
