Batman & Robin 1997

Ahhh, the movie that managed to kill the Batman on screen for almost a decade! SO MUCH HYPE for this movie, there was no way anything could have lived up to it--so the fact that ended up being this poorly written & acted has multiplied the hate for it. Of course, the bat-skates, bat nipples and bat credit card don't help.

Schwarzenegger's ice-related puns are the equivalent of dad jokes--they make you groan and roll your eyes even as you admit they're occasionally clever, but you don't want to give the joke-teller that satisfaction because they're also so dumb. Mystery Science Theater had the best Mr Freeze joke with "Behold, I bring you good tidings of joy" in Schwarzenegger's accent as Mr Freeze was falling out of the sky.

I also HATE how they threw Bane in as an afterthought and turned him into a clown. That to me is one of the most unforgivable sins of the movie.

A misunderstood masterpiece. I laughed so hard it hurt to breathe. It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen and yet I want more.

If I was rating films based on how many puns it contained about cold/ice/freeze, this would be a 10 out of 5. Unfortunately, I rate films based on quality and entertainment. Sorry Joel Schumacher, but you know what you did.

True story - I saw this in the theater four times. FOUR! Bat-fan through thick and thin! #Batman&Robin #BatmanDay

Holy rubber nipples Batman! The person who thought this was a good idea should be keelhauled in a frozen lake.

This is seriously one of the best Batman movies ever made. Especially if you expected a camp reimagining of the 1960's TV show. To those that don't agree, lighten up! Batman is too serious anyway. Did anybody watch the Brave and the Bold TV series? He ate nachos! :)

"Hi, Freeze. I'm Batman."

Best nonchalant yet flashy introduction to Batman EVER.

Also, fun cameo by John Glover!

Is is this a bad movie? Objectively, yes. Is it exactly what I want from a 90s Batman 66 adaptation? Also yes.

"Batman & Robin" was hands down my favorite Batman movie when I was a kid, with Poison Ivy being my third childhood crush after Rita Repulsa and Queen Beryl (I know, I had problems).

After I grew up, it still remained in my heart as one of those "so bad it's good" masterpieces. While "Batman Forever" was just plain dull and forgettable, "Batman & Robin" went deliberately campy and cheesy all the way, with gags that are so dumb that they became iconic and memorable costume design as the cherry on top. Not nearly as entertaining as I remembered, but still a guilty addiction of mine nevertheless.

Unlike what most people say, I always thought Clooney was an interesting choice for Bruce Wayne, if only he didn't totally phone in. The whole cast sucked in this anyway, no exception.

Never really got why this one gets so much slack. Yes it's bad, but in a similar way to the 60s TV show. It's pure camp, and certainly more entertaining than Batman Forever.

Without Batman & Robin, you don't get Batman Begins. Thank you, Joel Schumacher!

Batman & Robin, god-awful doesn’t even begin to describe this abomination. Director Joel Schumacher has turned the Batman series into a farce, and not even a funny one at that...just a sad, pathetic embarrassment. When Poison Ivy uses her feminine wiles to take over Gotham a rift forms between Batman and Robin and begins to tear them apart; meanwhile Mr. Freeze plans to plunge the city into an ice age. Arnold Schwarzenegger is spectacular bad as Mr. Freeze, delivering some of the worst one-liners of his career, and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl isn’t any better. And let’s not even talk about Bane. Batman & Robin is a black scar on the franchise that will never be lived down.

If you shut your brain off and make fun of the film with others, then it's not nearly as bad as some claim this is. While it's not quite so bad it's good, it's quite fascinating that it even exists. There probably won't ever be another film like this.

I actually really didn't hate this movie, could have been 3 stars but I did get a bit bored.

The amount of one-liners is unmatched, it's ridiculous and it even has goofy sound effects at times. I'd hate this movie if thas was The Dark Knight #4, but knowing it's considered a terrible movie, I just had a lot of fun with how silly it is.

Weird that Bane is just a sidekick villain here, I wonder if he has a rich background in the comics because in The Dark Knight Rises he is a very interesting villain.

Also crazy that this was made just 8 years before Batman Begins came out!

The new actor who plays Batman, and I liked the fact that there was no romance present in the film. However, the character Poison Ivy didn't captivate me and her actions don't seem to make sense at any point. On the other hand, Mr. Freeze had a more intense presence, although he is somewhat of an idiot, as he decides to steal rather than sell the technologies he created. The film's dubbing is terrible, with weak dialogue and full of puns. The fight scenes were also confusing. At least the visual effects stood out and are still good. I found the greater focus given to the character Alfred positive, something that did not occur in the previous films. I was interested in knowing more about his story. In short, the film tried to differentiate itself from previous films, which repeated the same formula, but the execution ended up resulting in a somewhat strange tone, without deciding whether it wanted to be serious or a comedy.

Carries on in the same vein as 'Batman Forever'.
Unbelievably shit.

Probably the worst of the Batman movies during the ‘90s. George Clooney in a superhero portrayal. With O’Donnell, a guaranteed failure.

Watched it once, and that was enough

This is a bad movie. But it's funny. I couldn't unsderstand myselfd.

This movie is so bad it's good.

Dialogs are non existent, they get as far as a string of bad one liners and puns without a punchline.

Acting reminded me of a high school production where every actor is not entirely sure about what they are doing.

The whole throw in some diamonds to keep the suite cold and lit up is wild, but not as wild as satellites defrosting the city by deflecting the sun like you would do to burn ants.

Pro tip: if you want to watch this movie make sure to be on drugs

After watching the movie from today’s perspective and with much more life experience, I have to say that Batman is the villain here and Poisen Ivy uses the wrong methods but is completely on the right side.

Batman without charisma, Freeze also stiff (like Arnold in every movie ;) ). Uma tries to save the situation, but it is not enough to successfully continue the brand. ps. Good Smashing Pumpkins song. ;>

I went into this movie expecting a bad, campy version of Batman and this still managed to disappoint. I'm going to ignore all the comparisons to the dark comics, because I think that is the lightest offender here. The writing and the acting are supremely bad and really just insulting to the audience. Most characters aren't even having a conversation, they're just trading terrible puns. Uma Thurman plays sexy decently, but can't play nerdy to save her life. Dr. Fries has a lab accident that forces him to stay at cold temperatures. Apparently, it also made him insane, because he can't avoid making every terrible ice pun he can think of. It's just weird seeing a character that is suppose to be a scientist talk more like a stuffed polar bear doll with a pull string. The stunts and action scenes are probably the best parts, but they aren't enough to save the train wreck that is the dialogue.

Gets too much hate from fun-hating comic book nerds who live in their mom’s basement! This movie may have been made to sell action figures but it’s still good in a campy way. It’s fun to watch and this being one of my first introductions to Batman growing up, I just thought it was super cool to see the villains on screen. Uma and Arnold do a wonderful job portraying Ivy and Freeze. Batman is portrayed many ways, you can like the video games and comics and still appreciate the cheesiness of this film.

The worst film ever made! Terrible acting, directing. Only Chris O'Donnel appears to have some talent.
According to Batman, "Superman does not want a partner because partners tend to want cars that chicks dig" ?
Mr. Freeze, despite being a professor, has very a very limited vocabulary, which includes ice puns.
A terrible and incoherent movie.
Schumacher treats the entire Batman franchise like a joke and wants to insult Batman fans and the general audience. Was he on drugs when he did this train wreck?
It's not that I like my Batman to be extremely dark, but here it's extremely campy, which I don't like either.

The movie itself isn't terrible, but the dialogue that is mainly, but not exclusively, given to Mr. Freeze is just painful. A few shots/cinematography decisions were, in my opinion, bad. If it weren't for them and the cheesy dialogue, along with the addition of Batgirl near the end of the movie, it would have been decent. But all of these combined just ruined it. This doesn't even get into the fact that Batman coincidentally has a tool he needs whenever he needs it or the fact that Poison Ivy's goal of freezing the planet sort of goes against her environmental ideals (although she states her plants would survive).

I think this movie should've had a different director. Schumacher just cheesed it up way too damn much. Batman Forever was great, but this crossed the line. It's obvious why Batman Unchained never happened.

Batman, Robin and Batgirl learn of an impending mass attack on Gotham City from Mr Freeze. What do they do? Apparently (and offscreen), they decide to put on new costumes. (which btw, look absolutely terrible)

This is just one of SO many things that are terrible about this movie.
