Arsenic and Old Lace 1944

This is a great Cary Grant film and truly a classic. Many other films get the distinction of a classic because of the serious themes they address, or because of great acting. And while there is some great acting in this movie, I consider this a classic because it is hilarious in so many clever ways that you just don't see in movies these days. If you're looking for a fun film, you can't go wrong with this one!

It starts off great but then Frankenstein comes in and the movie starts to drag.

Whattttt was this movie. I can’t think of a movie where expectations and reality have been so starkly disparate. This movie is dark, dark, dark–leavened, of course, by a lot of humor including a really fine (almost a touch too manic in parts) performance by Cary Grant. But the plot elements–serial killer aunties, a man who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and the whole Peter Lorre/Raymond Massey inside joke re: Boris Karloff–are off the charts ridiculous. I watched this late at night one night and fell asleep twenty minutes in…when I woke up, I thought I was hallucinating. Had to start from the beginning just to re-orient to what I was watching!

One of the most stupid and over-acted “comedies” ever produced. Grant is a Jerry Lewis with no wit. A waste of time and a challenge to intelligence
