Howard seems to remain slavish to authenticity, and it makes the film seem mechanical at times, but the movie is still engaging and tense enough throughout, even knowing the endgame. The cast are all around solid, especially Sinise. It's a nice window into a piece of American history.
An incredible film, with a well-developed, perfectly paced plot, that's intense and affecting, elevated by the captivating performances of the cast.
Hadn't seen this movie since I was little and I had forgotten how good it was. After learning about the actual mission it's amazing how faithful the film is to the real events. There was a little too much of Hollywood Drama (TM), but it was great to see a movie were people are just competent professionals that do their best and work their butts off to solve a difficult problem in creative ways. I feel that The Martian is a good modem example.
A worthwhile classic.
good acting - good story - good movie
Is this old enough to be called a classic?....
A well told story about an event in are history that should never be forgotten.

Apollo 13 is an outstanding movie that is definitely worth watching. The film tells the story of the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission and the incredible efforts of the crew and mission control to bring the astronauts back safely to Earth. Tom Hanks delivers a powerful performance as Jim Lovell, and the supporting cast is equally impressive. The film's visuals are also highly realistic, and they help to convey the tension and danger of the mission. Overall, Apollo 13 is a fantastic movie that combines excellent acting, a compelling story, and impressive visuals to create an unforgettable cinematic experience.
Great movie.
Wonderful performances from the three leads, as well as the supporting cast.
Very interesting plot.
I think Tom Hanks ought to be seriously considered as one of (if not the) greatest actors of his generation. Just unbelievable.
What an amazing movie...rest in peace bill paxton
Bought this amazing movie on 4K looks amazing in 4K, amazing performance by amazing actors like Tom Hanks,Bill Paxton,Kevin Bacon amongst the other amazing actors all did an excellent job portraying some real Heroes of the space Age...
One of my most favourite films :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Apollo 13 on 4k UHD never looked better than now. Rich colors, strong contrast. HDR10 sometimes helps sometimes is invisible. DTS track was redesigned but little less punchier as I’ve expected. Rocket launching is nice but not perfect.
Story: 10/10
Dialogue: 7/10
Performances: 8/10
Misc.: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
"Houston, we have a problem."
Man... Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris, and Kevin Bacon working together in a tight situation? Why did I not watch this before this week?? This movie was really good and I like that even though I knew what was going to happen, was still on the edge of my seat.
I don't know how to start the review, so I'll improvise a bit. I also don't feel like trying hard to make a good review for this movie.
The film is fine and details the hardships experienced by Apollo 13. To begin with, the camera shows us in detail the facilities, the rocket, the control room and all the personnel behind the space mission, something that will be so throughout the movie. However, in my opinion, the planes of the exterior of the rocket when they are in space are VERY typical. In addition to what was mentioned before, even if it's a trifling detail, the sounds of the alarms and walkman are attenuated so that astronauts are better heard speaking. For my point of view it is nonsense because it takes seriousness. For example, in '2001: A Space Odyssey' the alarm sounds are kept for minutes, even if they are uncomfortable. On the other hand, the soundtrack is very heard. It is the typical orchestra that accompanies patriotic scenes from war movies and video games, such as in 'Medal of Honor'. The script is not very original, It is full of threadbare phrases. The first idea was to memorize all the cliches and quote them, however, they began to be so many that I ended up saturated and forgetting the memorized ones. Especially the character played by Ed Harris. Virtually each and every one of his sentences is unnatural. Seriously, if someone spoke like that in real life, I would tell them they have a serious problem.
In short, the film is good, but the plot has a style of action widely used in the cinema so it ends up being boring. Also has too much pro-American feeling for my taste. Although it seems unimaginable that there exist movies about the space race (science fiction or not) without so much patriotic feeling, there are.
In a lot of ways, this is our first true glimpse at Hanks the vetted actor. He'd done some fine work before, and actually won an Academy Award, but this seems like his first bit of truly confident, thorough character acting. With Gump, he had several crutches (metaphorical) to lean on. Joe Versus the Volcano, Philadelphia and Sleepless in Seattle were basically Tom Hanks dealing with a variety of tough situations. Here he steps it up to the next level, and really is Jim Lovell.
Of course, it's a Ron Howard movie so it's warm and fuzzy in more places than it really needs to be, but beneath all that lies a rich, detailed bit of suspense and a wide swath of unique, interesting characters. I really appreciate the extra focus the film places on the tireless engineers back at mission control, and how essential their contributions are to the craft's survival. It's a story with several heroes, and that's not something that always comes across so well on the screen. My grade wouldn't budge an inch - this is very good, but not quite top-notch, stuff.
Amazing. Great acting all around. Fired it up again due to recent interest in Apollo missions due to the 50 year anniversary, and the excitement around the announcement of the 2024 moon landing. It will be interesting to see them try landing on the moon with today's technology. It's mind blowing to think they we have more computing power in our pockets these days then they had in all of Houston back then.
Excellent movie. It was really a nice surprise watching a 1995 space themed movie and being pleased with such great work. The movie brings in details and beautiful visual effects the space adventure of Apollo 13 mission, an almost tragedy and therefore a great superaction.
I remembered it well, but it was better. It transmits very well the anguish of those who are below and those who are above. And you know, Houston, we have a problem
