A good film; reminded me a little of the relationship I have with my cat. She's with me through thick and thin, ice and snow, but when it comes down to it, no matter how much I consider myself to be the master, she is ultimately the Alpha! The film misses greatness because of a relatively short running time - this is that rare movie that could have benefited from extra length, especially around the boy-wolf relationship - but there is still a lot to enjoy in the time that is available.
It's okay. The story with the wolf isn't exactly deep and feels like there could have been more to say.
There is some nice scenery, but it's always a bit too gigantic and mostly void of life.
The tribal hunt was generally unrealistic, weak CGI suggests that their budget was simply pretty limited for this scene.
Looks great and nothing more. The plot is somewhere near The Life of Pi, but even scarser. It's a good movie to watch only if you don't care about wolves facts, this movie got most of them wrong and also in key points (shame for the fact that this movie is also called Alpha).
Borderline family movie with a fairly straightforward plot, but it looks great and is enjoyable.
Movie with video clip aesthetics. The plot and the characters totally flat. Fools dialogues explaining how little happens. A waste of time
Sit Ubu sit, good dog
It's alright. There are moments you watch and go "Damn, I love my dogs"
Overall, this is a low budget, subtitled remake of The Revenant mixed with the opening third of Riddick (the third one). This survival piece was sold as a "boy and his dog" movie, but by the time the main character is chewing on worms, you will figure out that is not the film they made. Overall, it was a satisfying film, but not at all what it was sold as. 6/10
I was happy they didn't kill the wolf. Hate movies like that. Very enjoyable movie to watch! Definitely worth the watch.
A coming of age film for a boy and a wolf. Great performances. Beautiful settings. Overlook the anachronisms because this is not meant to make the prehistoric into a history, this is to craft a intimate tale wrapped in an adventure. I give this film an 7.9 (great) out of 10. [Adventure]
This was good but would have been better if it didn't take so long to get the wolf and we had spend a little more time after he got home.
Saw this last night at a screening and was an incredible film. Recommend NOT seeing 3D Imax if you are sensitive to 3D films - as the 3D is HEAVY. The acting was well done, the cinematography was incredible - definitely NOT for kids though even though half the theater was young kids (under 13). SUBTITLED!!!!! They do NOT speak English in this film and the language is 100% subtitled. I think having to read the subtitles and deal with the 3D element at the same time was what didn't work for me personally - but im highly sensitive to 3DNausea. I'd see this again NOT in 3D for sure though.
I really enjoyed this movie, great special effects, simple plot, but really exciting.
Very good movie, a very intersting story. The scenery was very beautiful.
Really enjoyed this movie. Loved the friendship between wolf and boy.
Watched this before it's leaving netflix. The premise made me think of 10,000 BC

It's The Revenant without the Tom Hardy revenge plot. It is exactly that, only in the process, our lead befriends a wild wolf. There isn't much else to say than that. It's basic shit, but all in service of some of the best cinematography and visual effects I've seen for a movie in a while. Albert Hughes seems to have a pretty solid track record of films, and his DP Martin Gschlacht does well taking cues from Zack Snyder and Larry Fong. So many shots in this look like they're out of Watchmen or 300. There's lots of good symmetrical framing, usually against something in the distance like mountains, or a sunset, or a herd of wildebeests, and they make sure to rack up the slow motion for the really impressive ones. It's almost like a ballet, every element is beautifully aligned to upmost perfection. At times, it's too perfect. Maybe the digital elements and sometimes CG animals hurt the illusion of a gritty environment, the opposite of the hand held approach of The Revenant. But still, there's some elegant work here, it benefits seeing in a large auditorium. It feels like those 45 minute IMAX shows they do in, like, museums, or Baraka, only this is a longer feature. I'm not sure if this movie will hold up on home formats, I'd have to check it out on the 4K television, but if you're at all interested in seeing this, see it now in theaters. Don't wait for the digital download, go on a ticket discount day.
Perfekt inszeniert, Wahnsinns Landschaftsaufnahmen, super Story. Nicht neu aber so macht Filme schauen wieder Spaß!
I dont get why that bad ratings. I liked it, a nice movie about a boy and his dog ah wolf ;-)
Gripping form start to finish.
really good movie, definitely enjoyed watching it
Stupid artsy crap. Can't understand a single word in this movie
THE DOG DOES NOT DIE!!!*
Definitely worth the watch. Zero English is spoken. In fact, zero language is spoken. It's a completely fictional 'language' and there is about 3 minutes total of dialogue between humans. Besides that, this is an awesome movie about a young boy who wasn't meant to be in the wild, befriending a wolf that tried to kill him. They form a typical dog/human bond and certain scenes will pull hard on your heart strings. Watch it. With tissues near by.
Great movie, a bit simple but with a good message, very family friendly
Simple story and very mediocre execution. Grab some beer, at least, if you want to spend time with it.
Very simplistic and predictable story, but it's entertaining and has some great visuals. Tons of suspension-of-disbelief must be used to buy into this world, but it's a charming survival tale of a boy and his dog.
This has to be one of my favourite films from 2018.
Technically well done, performances and cinematography are great.
It's a family friendly film, that takes the viewers into a beautiful journey.
Good acting, good setting and good music and although the plot is fairly simple and there is not much to the story it was a good movie in my opinion. I would just like to point out, that some scenes (walking in the wilderness) are a bit repetitive.
if you want some kind of disney like movie, go ahead, but nothing here looks realistic from beginning to the end. Just a happy tale set in prehistoric time. Nice landscapes (but watch a BBC documentary and you get even better of that), you can leave the rest behind. In my opinion unless you have kids and want a family movie, don’t waste your time on this one.
Beautiful and dramatic film that develops in the prehistory of humanity, in which a young man is left behind after an incident in a hunt and to survive he befriends a wolf, together they will fight against other predators and the weather to get home
I wanted to like this movie more because of this amazing first epic trailer, but it was very plain unfortunetly. I didn't really feel any heavy emotions or urgency which could have made this one way better.
But... I really adored the images! Incredibly beautiful, even though you can tell, when they used CGI. But still, some shots were stunning!
Nevertheless, the film goes from set piece to set piece within a couple minutes which is unfortunate, because they could have created some incredibly thrilling scenes, like in the snowstorm. But these scenes were just very short. Probably they didn't get enough out of the budget, they had.
Overall a really good looking movie, which never really connects with the audience, or at least not with me. Also the music could made this way more epic. Here it was just OK.
In two sentences: Maaaan, it could have been so much better... A bit disappointing unfortunately. But the images...amazing. :)
I swore I would never seen this because I was mad how much I had to see the trailer before movies at AMC. I finally broke though as I had to use up my 3 a week for A List. It's actually really great! Very emotional.
I saw Alpha last night... the story starts really good, but with the pass of the minutes the plot drops and the movie turns into something plain and kind of boring.
A lot of cutscenes without context and very forgettable characters...
