I was rooting for this film. A popular James Patterson novel series, Tyler Perry in a serious role. But, it didn't work. The acting was jagged, the characters undeveloped, the story unbelievable. In an era of great TV thrillers, movies like this have to pull up their socks. I give this film a 4 (poor) out of 10. Sorry, Tyler.
Maybe the WORST movie I've watched in all 2012.
I was very excited about the "franchise reboot" but the raccord failures are evident and the script is very very weak. Just an excuse to see some "random action" and that's all.
Very disappointed.
Tyler Perry has improved in serious roles since this movie. He was still miscast though.
I'm sorry I wasted two hours on this drivel. The plot is inane, half an hour in it comes apart completely. After the stupid pseudo-tech babble, they top things off with that drawing clue nonsense and ridiculous building infiltration. The entire film just strings together bits, lines, and tropes from other movies, except they don't make sense in the new context.
Most of the acting is terrible, too. The only convincing ones were Alex's mother and the children. And, of course, Giancarlo Esposito, who is always awesome. I was especially disappointed in the performances of Matthew Fox and Jean Reno, who I usually find more convincing.
This is all topped off with poor visual effects, and a jarring amount of product placement for Chevrolet and Cadillac, down to playing songs with Cadillac in the lyrics. Good grief.
When you read and like the books, forget this movie.
-Shoddy voice actors for shoddy film. I give a 6 only because the cast wasn't so bad. It's a movie that could be interesting but it's managed completely wrong.
-Some parts of the psychopathic killer seemed fake.
-They poured some action and random deaths instead of structuring more the psychological point of view (they talkedabout killer's profile only for 5 seconds).
-Part of the private life of the characters seems to be a film completely separate from the part that concerned the case.
-Non-existent case, no investigation, even the killed didn't surprised me, I mean, I could bet my house that Monica and detective's wife would die. Talking about Monica, why in the movie did they talk only about wife's death? And detective Monica? They didn't even say if she is dead (You can understand only because she is not seen anymore during the film and because the other detective is sad) but I don't know, not even a hint? I mean , for a detective she was a colleague for the other a girlfriend and they didn't mention her death at all.
-And then I didn't like this vindictive turning like executioners (but it's a personal opinion).
-However, the most important point in my opinion is that in the plot they talk a bout a cop which is a kind of criminologist when in the movie you can see something similar to a psychological analysis only a second when they talk about the profile and when he do that game with his wife, for the rest the psychological aspect is completely inexistent.
This doesn't even compare to the #AlexCross series of #AudioBooks I've listened to. I prefer to audiobooks overall. I found the movie a poor representation on the #JamesPatterson books. I would not recommend watching this.
Not recommended because Picasso or Matthew Fox is CRAZY!
First time I've seen Tyler Perry in film (at least I think it is) - based on this evidence I'm not sure he can even act, but then again if I hadn't seen Jean Reno in any other film I'd assume he couldn't either. So I'll just blame the director.
There isn't enough time to list the other reasons why this is so bad.
The only thing worse than the villain and his MO is the man behind the villain. That being said, this movie is terrible. I found myself absolutely not caring whether or not they caught anybody and I didn't care about the hero's family. I'd say that speaks pretty poorly about the film.
Save yourself some time, read the wiki entry and skip the movie.
One of the worst movies I've seen from 2012.
The only reason this movie gets a 6 from me is only because of the amazing performance by Matthew Fox. He put great work in shaping up for this movie, his acting is extremely good and completely different than his work in the serie LOST.

Says a lot when I'm rooting for Matthew Fox in the end fight...
