But give it a watch and your guaranteed to cry at least once, it will become a different movie to the one you thought you were going to watch, but that’s not a bad thing!
You will figure out where it’s going and what you believe the ending will be, it will then give you a curveball and say “ no we aren’t going there”
But then it will immediately start going there, but once again it will look you straight in the face and say “we are fooling with you, we aren’t going to really do that” then it will…..
The last ten minutes you will see all those lined up penny’s fall into place and your finish this film feeling how you should……
SAD, HAPPY, TEARFUL but best of all……

Movies like this are rare these days.
Much to take with you after watching it. Maybe targets emotional response a bit, but still there's the core content.
Man is good at everything, except committing suicide.
I watched it in the cinema with a reasonable sized audience. Everyone laughed. Everyone cried. It's perfect for achieving exactly what it set out to do. It'd be nice if Tom got awards nods for this, but Mariana Trevino definitely needs nominations.
Another beautiful performance from Tom Hanks. An emotional rollercoaster of a film. Loved it.

Honestly, I was afraid this was going to be some reboot of Hanks worst work "Castaway". I watched the trailer and thought, eh. If it sucks, at least I can play on my phone (streaming at home).
This is such a heart warming movie. The cast is phenomenal. The directing is spot on. It even manages to work in the good works that some internet media does, which in a day and age when we've all gotten quite exhausted and sick of internet media being misused to cause strife was a nice nod to remind us it's not all bad.
A fantastic script that gives Otto's story both past and present in a timely fashion unlike a lot of films that always seem to flounder with flashbacks. This film hits the timing marks flawlessly.
To my surprise, I've got to recommend this as a must see. 10/10.
Hanks was made for movies like this. A sometimes sad but sweet story with a lovely cast.
I watched Banshees of Inisherin yesterday and was bored to death , i was afraid Otto was going to be a dud too..but i loved this movie, Tom Hanks still has a way that keeps you hooked to the movie even if there's no dialogs in scene like he did in cast away.and kudos to Mariana Treviño every scene for her was 10/10

It’s kind of unbelievable that Tom Hanks can still surprise with a totally new type of performance. The film nails the tone it aims for while swinging between a full range of emotions. Stellar ensemble performances. Cannot more highly recommend!

Well can’t go wrong with a film that stars Tom Hanks and i most say it was a decent film with a lot of heart with a lovely, heartwarming plot and did break me at times. Tom hanks plays a great grumpy old man, reminds me of Clint Eastwood in the film grand torino, another great film!

Ok movie, but they just had to weave the "trans" false doctrine in there, which was completely unnecessary to the film.
What initially appears to be a retelling of Pixar's Up turns into something very different, quite amusing, and heartwarming to boot.
The film is, of course, another showcase for Tom Hanks to show off his wide range of talents, and he inhabits the role of the eponymous, cantankerous grump very well. But besides him, the entire cast of different and well-written characters put in strong performances all round, particularly Mariana Treviño.
Although the story could have easily settled for being another one about overcoming grief, what makes Otto stand out is its celebration of caring, compassion and kindness to and from strangers.
An unexpected beauty of a story, Tom Hanks is legendary as always. The other characters are great as well. I'm not a big emo guy, but this brought a tear to my eyes more than once.
Hanks is great in this touching and funny tale.

All I heard about this movie was how it was so sad. Is it about dark topic matter? Absolutely. It's also darkly hilarious. Tom Hanks is one of the best to ever do this acting thing, and this is his funniest film in years. The premise and themes are solid. Easy to recommend this one.

My man Otto was a certified hater. Mariana Trevino makes this film work.
An excellent move and deserves 10 hearts. I really liked Mariana acting. What I didn't like was movies these days forcing trans this trans that down our throats. I would have given 10 hearts if not for that.
excellent movie... black humor and drama... with a great message... that is still entertaining.
An unnecessary remake of those that do not add anything new to the original story, but that is more comfortable in the black humor of the first hour than in the melancholy that the original film managed to release. There's a nod to Swedish food that's fun, and overall it's as enjoyable as it is easily forgettable. Above all because it is carried away by sentimentality, not only in the scenes that are already sentimental, but in the use of honeyed songs at the most inappropriate moments. At least Tom Hanks manages to make credible a character that, at first, seemed not to fit him well.
Sorry, did not like it. Bad acting, stereotype latina, crappy story. It gets worse and worse.

This was a really sweet film about a man who lost his purpose for living, then found it again in being of service to others, w/ the help of a new, loving neighbor and her family. Mariana Treviño as the neighbor was excellent! Her performance was both touching and heartfelt. She did a tremendous job in showing what it takes to reach out to someone who's lost their way. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Ms. Treviño's work in the future. The theme song for this film, Til You're Home, performed by Rita Wilson, actor, songstress, and Tom Hank's wife, and Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra, was beautiful.

Tom Hanks nails it as a grumpy old man with a heart of gold. The film is like a perfectly assembled puzzle, every piece fitting seamlessly to tell its story—mirroring how society operates. It's a hilarious comedy that can bring you to tears in some parts. Totally recommended, solid 9/10!
Simply superb. Tom Hanks wonderfully portrays a grumpy old man with a "too big of a heart" (you'll get it after watching) who eventually warms up to life and becomes the father figure of a whole neighbourhood.
I didn't really like it at first (it was fine but just not that good) but the ending really got me :) It's a nice mix between drama and comedy. I found it too dark at the beginning but the last part (since Otto opened up to Marisol) and ending was really heartwarming and beautiful <3 It managed to make me care about the characters.
There is so much to learn from the elder generation... We park them in nursing homes and never get to learn shit from them. We should talk to our parents/grandparents and ask them how their life was, their struggles, their fears, their joys, EVERYTHING. This is how we will relearn the most important lessons!

A very moving heartwarming and heartfelt movie about life and the people around us that makes it worth living. I have to say I did not expect it but it made me very emotional and a huge thumbs up to Tom Hanks for an amazing performance. In an age where meaning is difficult to find it gives a little light. Definitely must see.

The movie just went off and I'm still crying! It was so good! :sob::sob::sob: Nice mixture of happy, sad, anxious & worrying moments. Good laughs in between. I smiled, laughed and cried through the entire movie. Excellent movie! A must see!
The plot is cute, though completely predictable. It is an enjoyable story. And I am not sure yet if the characters are parodies or not; it is like they're in the middle, on the edge.
Not many movies make me laugh and cry, but this one did. I really loved all aspects of it.
It claims to have been based on "En man som heter Ove" (A Man Called Ove), but in my mind it's a 21st century remake of "Steppenwolf" by Herman Hesse. (depressed older man is rejuvenated by vibrant young woman.) I enjoyed it
Now this is a beautiful cinema, a little bit of tragic with the right amount of wholesomeness and a pinch of comedy here and there, the story is great as it is adopted from a novel, but the screenplay is great anyway, all the actors are seamless in their characters and especially Tom Hanks as usual he is phenomenal, although while watching Tom Hanks reminded me of Rowan Atkinson, maybe because of how he looks? I don't actually know why, maybe if it gets a remake in Europe, I think Rowan Atkinson will be the best. WORTH WATCH!NG

This was a cute movie. Tom Hanks does a very good job as Otto, very believable for the most part, but the real winners of this movie are his neighbors, they bring this movie to life.
Excellent acting, script and directing in this touching and heartfelt film. It never shies away from the dark aspects of life and the world. Otto's repeated despairing of and irritation with aspects of modern society are super relatable but darkly funny too. Those bits are my favourite bits of the movie that make it unique.
The other parts of the movie are about a love/life story looked back on - and a quirky community pulling together to look after one another. all the acting is great - but perhaps a bit larger than life - so it never really feels realistic. that's fine though - it's a good bit of feel good escapism.
the aesthetic is interesting and at times I felt like there were conscious decisions to hark back to the scandi origins of the story.
I liked the overall effect of the movie and the messages it's getting across about the strength of communities.not groundbreaking but some original moments. worth a watch.

Gran Torino but a little more modern.
I see why it was a sleeper hit. It's an easy to like movie. But it's a formula we have already seen before. Grumpy old man learns to love life with the help of his neighbor's children.
Excellent movie, it is worth seeing !! With a message .. is the internal struggle that man have ... and that we do not want to accept.
At last a movie that wasn’t all you see in the trailer. Don’t get confused, it has nothing to do with comedy. It has a dark twist and it shocked me when I realized what is happening. Otto is my friend its just like seeing myself. I tottaly identified with his lines, his answers, his gringe, his diallogues and that fact that eveyone in the world are stupid.....!!!!
The movie has excellent music and the secondary roles were also exceptional. What I really liked the most was the movie’s dialogues, which were very well written. I didn’t know it was a Swedish movie remake, but the dialogues were perfect. Especially the scene at the restaurant where she asks
- “why did you order only a starter?”
- “because I ate at home”,
- “why did you eat at home?”
- “so you can order whatever you like”

That's how people should be. That's how cinema should be.
A remake that is equal in quality to the original and in many cases even surpasses it. Tom Hanks plays Otto Anderson so convincingly that his performance will sweep you away and move you.
The comedy-drama "A Man Called Otto" is about a grumpy old man who has given up but finds a new lease on life after a series of changes in his environment. It's a story you've probably seen dozens of times before. However, the formula works quite well again this time around.
I was relieved to see Tom Hanks in a more normal role again. I had the impression that he had lost all sense of subtlety in his acting after "Elvis" and "Pinocchio," but in "A Man Called Otto", he plays a much less over-the-top character. His recent penchant for overacting is undetectable here.
The rest of the cast is solid. Mariana Treviño, in particular, is convincing as Otto's new neighbor. Meanwhile, the plot is predictable at every turn. However, director Marc Forster at least succeeds in triggering exactly the emotions he wants the viewer to feel. If a scene is supposed to be funny, then you definitely have to chuckle. If it is emotional, you're bound to shed a tear or two. In combination with the music, this is often filmed in a somewhat manipulative way, but it works quite well.
You definitely shouldn't expect much innovation or creativity from this film. But it is definitely a movie with its heart in the right place.
Kind of like the alphabet: we know the starting point, how it's going to end and there are no surprises in the middle. Only 'kind of', though, because the alphabet is funnier.
That said, there were some moments of genuine emotion that floated to the top of the rosewater, especially those concerning the trans character (played wonderfully by trans actor Mack Bayda).
This movie will not win any Academy Awards but it will pull at the Heart-strings.
Do yourself a favor and watch this film.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film all the way through, although it was a bit dragged out. This is a sweet story about the circle of life as it follows a recent widower and his struggle to go on with life after his wife's passing. He ends up befriending some new neighbors and re-connecting with old ones that ends up giving him a surprising piece of mind he could never have imagined before he passes away himself. The stubbornness of Otto makes for a fun and hilarious adventure, but also the opening of change that ironically exposes his heart as a deep down sweet man.
Contrary to what the critics said, I quite enjoyed the film. To note however that Tom Hanks was better (here and in general) in the dramatic parts, while in this film I found the comedy sections superior to a drama sometimes too predictable.
