r.i.p. Paul Walker
You've lived Fast & Furious...
They have Power Ranger colors now!
They tried doing something different but ultimately it just feels like a rehash of the first with a clunky half-baked story added - and without Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez unfortunately. The only thing I appreciated was the bro bond between Brian and Roman, it's heartwarming at times. Once again, I felt like the action had no stakes. Couldn't get into this one, I hope this was the low point of the franchise.
From the title alone, it should be clear to you that "2 Fast 2 Furious" is significantly dumber than its predecessor. And, while I am aware that the second installment is regarded as one of the series' worst, I cannot agree. I just love this movie. The candy-colored cars, the music, the Miami vibe, and the "Bad Boys" plot—everything is right up my alley. Is every single actor here trying to be worse than their co-stars? Absolutely! But my attitude towards it is always: 2 much fun 2 care!
Ranking these Fast and Furious movies.
"He did the stare and drive on you, didn't he? He got that from me."
I don't know what it is but Tyrese Gibson just knows how to touch my funny bone.
Anyway John Singleton's 2 Fast 2 Furious is the second entry in the Fast franchise. Again we follow Paul Walker's Brian. Now he's out in Miami street racing and working with Ludacris's Tej.
Unfortunately the cops catch up with him and he goes undercover to help catch a Miami drug lord. He teams up with Tyrese Gibson's Roman Pearce and Eva Mendes's Monica Fuentes (a undercover agent). Now all the do is race to bring stuff from a to b.
It's alright. In my memory I thought this one was loads of fun but I love the films the franchise turn into later more. I want more over the top. More silly one-liners and seeing each film try to over-the-top each other.
Still, it was an alright rewatch.
"We hongry!" - Roman Pearce, circa 2003
Pretty lame movie. Very unrealistic, corny camera shots and film play. Like watching someone play grand theft auto
Rest in peace Paul Walker
This film was less entertaining than the first film in the franchise. With the entire main cast from The Fast and the Furious not in attendants for 2 Fast 2 Furious except for Walker I felt the film was missing some of its spark because of it. The acting was on the same level as the first and the story line was kind of the same rehashed story the first one had except for two or three changes. Nonetheless even though the cast mostly changed and the kind of same story line is there the eye-popping action this movie delivers was fun and thrilling to watch.
Ahhhh ya just came home from doing a bid tell me what ya gon' do ...
ACT A FOOL!
Here they jumped the boat, probably some sharks in-between but it was still tolerable- I mean uhh at mostly in reality at this point.
Pft... Giant... EMP... Bionicle claws... Pft

Wasn't too bad. Roman was a good addition. Otherwise, only reason to watch is for the cars.
(703-word review) The first film was all fun and games. It never felt that serious. There was an antagonist, sure, along with the 'good guys vs. bad guys' element, yet it was in an exciting, spectacle way. But here, this film upped the ante. It felt like there were actual stakes, not to mention the surprise of Carter Verone being a compelling villain, elevated immensely by Cole Hauser's performance. That torture scene was gnarly and may even be the "furthest" the franchise has gone in that way; I can't imagine other scenes at that level in the other films.
The story, too, in connection with that, was written more seriously than in the first one, which revolved around hijackers, topped with a villain with a grudge, who's there for appearances more than anything – and street racing being at the crux of it all, especially the villain; that aspect, while done (because it's one of the hearts of this franchise) was less so here.
For that, props are in order. The gradual development of the action-y excitement to greater heights is almost palpable enough to grab. Just look at the culmination of the final act with the boat. This film is only the second one; things like that are happening – doesn't it bring a tear to your eye? Probably in a negative way, huh? You can see all that implausibility and absurdity right on the horizon, getting closer. Awww, this franchise is already grown up. Isn't that adorable?
And during the culmination of that final act, Roman even did his now-shtick of freaking out and being the audience stand-in for laying out what's about to happen in a half-questioning, half-incredulous manner to pointing out the ridiculousness and raising the concerns of success at doing these spectacular deeds. Two films in, yes, but we're too deep in now – hook, line, and sinker, The "battle" has been won, by "THEM," ladies and gentlemen. We can't escape; we can, however, go along with the ride every single time, won't we? Hell, yeah! It's all about family!
But, speaking of family, that's the elephant in the room. Dominic "Family" Toretto was busy with family, doing family activities with his family, and some more family dropped in from their family stations in space to join in on the family activities for the family. And that negatively impacted the film. He's needed; he and Brian, the duo of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker – needed. I assume the latter was more popular, and people weren't too bothered by Vin's absence. But come on. He's The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the Fast & Furious Saga. He's family.
On a more positive note, this served as our first exposure and introduction to Roman Pearce and Tej Parker, now cemented into this franchise's legacy; they're part of the family now, and when Dom finds out, there will be a Corona-only, family-only party of family-oriented festivities, and a bunch of family banter that only family members can achieve.
Another introduction was Suki; this being her only appearance in the franchise – hopefully, Devon Aoki will be back at some point (and you might as well throw Orange Julius and Slap Jack in there; why wouldn't you bring back Amaury Nolasco and Michael Ealy? Hell, do the same with Leon, and use the power of family to do the same with Jesse, and Vince, beyond whichever film he did return in; don't underestimate what the power of family can do).
And she (cultural icon!) unironically seems to be more iconic, with a more significant impact, franchise-wide, than the other supporting characters; Dominic Toretto can't be surpassed. Her dialogue was sublime, and so was some of Roman's but specifically Tyrese Gibson's overall performance; he outshined Paul Walker, the weakest link here and even in the first film.
Besides all of that, the cinematography by Matthew F. Leonetti was great. That stood out in the first installment, too. Something about that 2000s aesthetic and how films and TV shows looked works tremendously on the eyes. The soundtrack was also decent enough.
Missing a critical component – family – along with its grandmaster, Dominic Toretto, only so much was accomplished by Roman Pearce, Suki, the cinematography, and the villain.
A massive step down from the first film. Poor cast chemistry and a weak as hell plot
This is my favourite movie in the franchise, for me is the best one. It's simple, is not pretentious or surrealistic like the subsequent parts. It's a movie about cars and speed, made by car lovers for car lovers, with a police plot around. It shows you how is this subculture, and you want to know more about it, with those tuned cars with nitro, lights everywhere, big stereos and gearboxes, in the movie the characters use real tricks to drive, like using the handbrake to drift and shiftdowning the gear at max speed to gain more potence in the relay race (that really would break down the motor), that's totally legit. This movie is almost like a documentary for me.
Not nearly as good as the 1st film but it helps continue to story line as it follows Brian several months after fleeing LA where he let Dom go and is now with a new street racing gang in Miami, until he gets caught and is offered a full pardon deal that involves him helping catch a drug lord, so Brian chooses a friend from the past to be his partner. The plot is very cheese and typical for this type of movie but the action is still there and fun to watch, but has nothing deep like the original.
2 slow 2 predictable 2 bad
Undoubtedly the weakest film in the Fast and Furious franchise, second only to Tokyo Drift (which I don't even consider part of the main series). The film's biggest flaw is the absence of Vin Diesel, whose charismatic presence and iconic character were sorely missed. Despite this, 2 Fast 2 Furious still delivers some action and impressive car chases. The chemistry between Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson's characters also provides some entertaining moments. Overall, it may still worth a watch for die-hard fans of the series.
Japanese title: Wild Speed X2.
This is the goofy one without Toretto. If the first movie was Point Break with street racing, this one was Miami Vice with street racing. Although excruciatingly boring throughout, you can notice the tone gradually getting closer to the over-the-top trash of the recent sequels. It’s directed and acted so poorly that it makes the first movie look like arthouse stuff, but the cars entering the hyperspace like the Millennium Falcon are pretty exciting to look at.
Guilty pleasure score: ★1/2
Actual score: ★
Final score: ★
This movie is dookie, but in a The Room way.
Not quite as good as the first one / not really a worthy successor.
It's nice but it lacks depth and isn't the story continuation that I hoped for. I really miss Dom and Mia. Roman Pearce is a cool and funny new character. His friendship with Brian is nice but I miss the family aspect that Dom brings. Agent Bilkins is also funny btw.
The music is still great and I like how they lead with it right away during the very intro. I also loved that super cool/funny intro animation. And the CGI animation during the end credits was also nice (it's old and not good by modern technical standards but I still appreciate the artistical style).
The best thing about this movie is definitely Brian O'Conner and his beautiful Nissan Skyline with the blue lighting. I want to try out driving a Skyline ever since because it's not just beautifully looking but also cool under the hood. And this movie might also be the reason why I like chucks :D Unfortunately, I don't find them as comfortable as sports shoes but they're nice for driving due to the more direct feeling. The only drawback is that they make my heel-and-toe style a bit more difficult. Speaking of that: Surprisingly I didn't see a heel-and-toe shift once in this video. It looks like they're always shifting up :D
Not surprising though as this isn't a realistic movie and the physics are seriously off in many ways. Even just minor details like the breaks breaking when Brian's car get's hit by that EMP-style device. The breaks don't need any electronics (even for the break assistance) and it could at most break the infotainment system, engine (ignition), and power steering (but I assume they didn't use electronic power steering at that time and hydrolic power steering should be unaffected too).
And that staring trick while driving is of course just completely stupid and not cool at all (it's kinda funny in the movie but one should never attempt it IRL and it's dumb - why would one even do it?).
And, e.g., the fast backwards driving wouldn't work either due to the lack of a reverse gear with the right ratio. I do wonder though how fast those cars would go in reverse. The modern cars I've driven are all limited to 20 - 35 km/h.
Anyway, just some notes/thoughts. I don't mind that it isn't accurate at all. It's cool to watch and that's what matters. I'd like to see a making of. It felt like most of the shots where composited together. And lot's of cuts, of course (one wouldn't shift that much and the cars would go way faster).
And it was at this very early point in the 10+ movie series that they decided to reject reality's physics and substitute their own. At least they slowly ramp up the ridiculousness instead of blow their wad immediately like Warner Bros. did with DC. This one needed Vin Diesel, though; Paul Walker's poor delivery feels like Mark from 'The Room' at times.
Go as the first NO, still good. Very rewatchable. Of course the plot is weak, but its the action that is so good.
At least it was trying something different. It didn't really work but it was different. And hey we got Ludacris and Tyrese out of this movie.
Down shifting into low gear, 2 Fast 2 Furious is a clichéd, stereotypical action film with no charisma. Former undercover cop turned outlaw Brian O'Connor is given the chance to have his record cleared if he goes undercover once more to help take down a Miami crime lord. The acting is just terrible; particularly the performances by Paul Walker, Tyrese, and Eva Mendes (which are cringe worthy). But the fault isn't completely theirs as the script is awful, with some truly atrocious dialog. Still, the action sequences and races are exciting and well-staged. While there are some thrills and it entertains a bit, 2 Fast 2 Furious is a clunker.
Pockets ain't empty cuz
It is good and entertaining, but it shows the lack of "family"
Tyrese is a bad actor.
Stupid, but entertaining. Win a race by jumping over another car? Awesome.
Ganske udemærket efterfølger.
I just like to think this movie never existed
