Great movie, I loved it. And the less you know about it before watching, the better.
Messed me up in the best ways. Unreal film, needs to be watched with zero spoilers to have full impact.
In 2008, i saw "Cloverfield" for the first time, i had no idea about what the movie was and a i didn't know i would love it, the simple script and the found footage style made as an imersive and amazing experience, i really enjoyed.
8 years later and the same producers come back with a semi-sequel, i guess that's how i can call this film, in january i didn't even know this movie was coming out, i tought it was weird cause they were using Cloverfield in the name, so i saw a small teaser and i was surprised that this film was totally different from the previous one. The filming style, the atmosphere, everything from the predecessor was gone.
New filming style (which by the way is a beautiful cinematography), new atmosphere, new characters, new story. Dan Trachtenberg's first feature film is just amazing, very competitive and stylish direction, everything works on this film, the simple script works along with the cast of three. Mary Elizabeth Winstead outstanding as usual, John Goodman on one of the best works of his career and John Gallagher Jr. i never saw acting but he surprised me.
The atmosphere created in the film is just great, caught my attention in every second, the shadowed cinematography and a very imersive soundtrack by Bear McCreary makes it almost perfect.
The third act rushes a little bit, and the ending may have some mixed receptions, i liked it. (Obs: don't watch the trailers, it may have too many information and ruin your experience).
10 Cloverfield Lane is one of the best psychological thriller movies of the decade, terrific and almost perfect. Go see it.
They tried too hard at the end, the last 15 minutes feel like they belong to an completely different film. But besides that "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a decent and mysterious sequel to a surprisingly good film.
(And like others mentioned here before, it's better to watch it without knowing anything about; e.g. trailers, but actually that should count for every movie...right?)
It's a bit amusing how much people like this movie, when it's just your average run of the mill thriller. Or maybe below average in this case.
There is simply nothing new here and it even gets somewhat cliche at times. The plot definitely has some holes, and plenty of logic flaws, and the whole thing just feels very sloppy in some parts. The movie could really have benefitted from more realism and attention to details.
The ending is really a letdown too, and we are left with 95% of the movie becoming completely void with no resolution whatsoever. There really was no suspense to it thanks to some clumsy directing, and the whole thing just seems very random because of it.
The acting was OK but the characters really weren't. We never really get to know them much at all, which is terrible in a movie like this.
Overall a huge disappointment. I wish people would watch more diverse movies, so they would stop hyping mediocre movies like this.
Good movie until the plot twist. After that everything changes... to worst.
This is a film you have to go into cold. If you know too much about it you won't get the full impact - and the full impact is well worth having. Excellent film with some great performances.
John is good man. Like, the best part of this great movie is just watching him act so well. Don't worry, I won't give anything away. All I want to say is to go watch this one for sure. The tension is so high and stays with you the whole time. I saw it in IMAX, and they cranked the volume up to the point of me becoming deaf, but I think it was worth it.
Oh, and one of the first shots of this film happened to be of a bottle of scotch. That would bump it up half a star for me if it was needed. 5.5 out of 5 then?
This movie will always have a special place in my heart because it's the last one I saw with my aunt before she passed away. We always watched movies together, and this was a fun one because she got so spooked easily. Ironically enough she shared the same name as the protagonist.
What the? I HATED Cloverfield, but this movie was awesome! Why even link yourself to that garbage first movie? It kept me away from watching this for... well until now. Terrible marketing decision in my opinion but oh well, the next movie came out on Netflix which kicked me into watching this series. Glad I did. Cool flick.
Really good movie that in order to fully enjoy it you have to see no trailer and read no spoilers. It doesn't leave anything unanswered and it has great tense and nice storyline. Goodman gives a nice performance.
"You people. You wear helmets when you ride bikes…seatbelts in cars… alarm systems to protect your home… But what happens when those alarms come? … Crazy is building an ark after the flood."
I really tried to like it, but this movie really lacks immersion and intent. The movie assumes you will fill in blanks. I can imagine that if you do so it might feel rewarding as an experience, yet if you are past that or not noticing it this movie feels shallow. Comparisons to Hitchcock and such are really misplaced in my honest opinion. I would recommend setting the mood by watching this movie at night tho. It's not a "bad" movie. If you're used to any form of deeper thriller or horror this movie will likely have no significant impact on you. Finally the surprises and "plot-twists" people talk about are not there to be honest. If your brain starts working a bit while the movie runs, the things that happen really aren't sudden or unexpected. A nice addition to Cloverfield tho.
Great film. Try not to read any spoilers on this and watch it from a clear perspective..... Youll enjoy it that way.
I really don't get why everyone praises this movie. Great idea and I liked the music and style. Cinematography and acting weren't bad either.
But the protagonist makes horrible decisions throughout the movie and you can't help but think she's dumb. The forced perspective doesn't work so you feel superior to her. Nothing proved that Howard was lying about the outside, but in the end, instead of killing him she goes outside. The burnt lady and Emmett should've been proof enough. It was obvious what the blood on her car meant (or at least could mean to her).
Even though in the end Howard is a killer, up until then you think she's just paranoid. He reacts the way he does because Michelle acts rude. And he might be a bit off, but he saved her and nothing really looks like he kidnapped her.
You can see through the plot and know where things are going. Some things only occur to help the character(s) later or to make Michelle think Howard's a psycho. He really only poses a threat because of the girl he kidnapped. Everything else is understandable. I even get why he shoots Emmett (although it is extreme). Because Emmet poses a threat and Howard fears that they could kill him due to paranoia.
Dialogue and character backgrounds are generic (crazy kidnapper/killer, highschool dropout and relationship problems).
AND OH GOD THE ACTIVITY SCENE
"10 Cloverfield Lane" is a distant relative of 2008's "Cloverfield", sharing only a few crumbs that suggest a stronger link between the two films. While "Cloverfield" was a dizzying handheld camera event, "10 Cloverfield Lane" is a third-person narrative shot in standard fashion. The film is set primarily in an apartment, on the open road, and in a fateful bunker, and succeeds in creating a sense of claustrophobia with every door locked by unforgiving metal and a lack of privacy.
John Goodman is excellent as Howard, the seemingly crazy owner of the bunker who is a walking enigma. It is unclear whether his story of devastating attacks outside is true, and what his personal story may be. Goodman's portrayal of Howard is perfect, with a blend of sinister goodwill, anxiety, and a seething temper boiling beneath the surface. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is also faultless as Michelle, the defiant, weary hostage who starts out frantic and ends up scheming and playing the long game. John Gallagher Jr.'s character is just okay, not adding much to the movie.
The film is a slow burner, building tension and suspense, but I found the overly long sequences of nothingness to drag on and detract from the overall movie experience. As the third act picks up, it feels too little, too late, and too contrived to be a worthy payoff for the buildup. Additionally, many of the situations in the film feel too convenient, such as the shower curtain being a perfect fit for a fallout suit, the earring that is found, and the radio turning on just by the precise road sign.
While "10 Cloverfield Lane" has a great premise of whether to trust the menacing man who has entrapped you or try your luck outside in the potentially deadly air, the buildup doesn't pay off in the end. The performances by Goodman and Winstead are the saving grace of the film, otherwise, it would score lower.
10 Cloverfield Lane achieves what many films of late try but fall short of: keeping the viewer wondering what's really going on, without getting an answer until the very last moment.
And it's a good thing to see films like this in recent years, to be honest. Throughout the film, it plays with the viewer with small doses of information so that everyone can draw their own conclusions, as if it were a role-playing game or Scape Room. All accompanied by a good performance by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (and a decent one by John Goodman).
It's difficult to make further assessments without spoiling the ending, but I invite fans of Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie's novels to watch the film for the first time and try to figure out the ending.
90% of the movie are very enjoyable. It's the last 10% I don't get :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
Aliens why Aliens
Wow. I mean, I'd heard it was good but it really is. I enjoyed every minute of it. It keeps you on the edge. John Goodman is great in this film. I would totally watch it again.
It wasn't a bad movie, but unfortunately you're bored for an hour and the fun doesn't start until 30 minutes before the end, which is very little.
I was disappointed the 1st time I watched this becuase I loved Cloverfield and giant monster movies in general but I gave this another shot and it's a great flick
9.5/10. So much of movies these days is about “the reveal,” that one detail, unveiled at the end of the picture, meant to recontextualize everything you’ve seen. 10 Cloverfield has a hell of a reveal, several in fact, but that’s not what makes it great. In fact, it basically toys around, in almost metatextual fashion, with the function a reveal or a twist plays in these sorts of stories.
Because director Dan Trachtenberg and writers Josh Campbell, Matthew Stucken and Damien Chazelle play with the audience’s expectations throughout the film. When we first see Michelle trapped in a small room and told the world has ended outside and the world is ended, the tropes of the genre make us believe that’s a lie, that it’s an excuse to keep her imprisoned. Then, when she nearly escapes and sees (granted, a bit conveniently) someone who fits the description of someone afflicted by the poisoned air, she realizes it’s the truth. The same thing happens when Michelle finally escapes, driven to run by Howard’s controlling nature, and she sees the empty skies and takes off her makeshift hazmat helmet. We’re led to believe that maybe it was all a game, a trick or something temporary that had been kept from here. Then, well, the UFO shows up.
That’s the most wonderful “twist” to 10 Cloverfield Lane. The film is constantly creating little mysteries, the biggest of them being the one that propels the film: has the world truly ended or is Howard just insane and trying to keep Michelle here? The rub is that it’s not an either/or question; it’s both. The film answers it’s central question revealing that yes, Howard is a mentally unhinged prepper who is a mortal threat to the people in his care who’s desperately trying to project the daughter who was taken away from him, but he’s also completely correct that aliens have arrived and are unleashing seismic blasts and toxic gas on the human population.
But even apart from that clever direction for the movie’s plot, 10 Cloverfield Lane is a tightly-written, incredibly shot, wonderfully acted film that develops its characters and maintains a mood of supreme tenseness and intrigue throughout. The writing really elevates the film. From little details like Howard freezing his vodka being a subtle setup for Michelle breaking the lock on the escape hatch, to Howard trying to guess the title “Little Women” during a parlor game revealing how he sees Michelle as a substitute and fill-in for his lost daughter, the script parcels out little hints and tidbits and threads that it ties together by the end of the film. It’s a clockwork picture, with no superfluous detail or element of the film that does not come back in a meaningful fashion later on.
And yet, all of the details revolve around one truly incredible performance from John Goodman. As one of Hollywood’s most outstanding and versatile actors, it’s easy to grow accustomed to Goodman’s consistent greatness in movies of all stripes. Nevertheless, he is particularly electric here, communicating so much about Howard’s persnickety and particular qualities, about his military precision and organization, about the hints at his mental instability that tow the line between a simply peculiar man and a dangerous one, about the genteel nature of Howard that barely conceals a frightening fury and power behind it. He veers between the incredibly subtle and funny moments of the film and the ones where Howard is pure menace with an effortlessness that stands out even in a character who is so meticulous.
Of course, much of the film also rests on the shoulders of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who portrays Michelle, the film’s antagonist. She too delivers a superb performance, one that’s lighter on dialogue given the tense and terse confines of the film’s trapped-in-a-bunker setting, but one full of meaning, where each utterance, each look, is layered with multiple meanings.
Michelle is also a well-written character who defies the tropes of the genre. In so many films where people are captured or trapped or put in these sorts of confined situations, the prisoners feels like helpless pawns of the mastermind, missing obvious opportunities to get out or fight back in favor of plot convenient dramatics. Here, however, Michelle is resourceful, skeptical, and sharp from her very first scene in confinement. She understands the situation; she’s intuitive and questioning about what’s going on, and she finds clever and creative ways to solve the problems the film presents. That’s quite refreshing, not just for the depiction of a young woman on film, but for the protagonist in a horror or thriller film.
Like it’s prequel (or cousin, depending on the vague connections), 10 Cloverfield Lane focuses on the human element within the extraordinary events taking place. Yes, there are dramatic escapes and physical altercations, but some of the film’s most compelling moments are quiet scenes where the characters reveal little bits of themselves to one another. We learn as much about Howard from his laconic comments about his daughter or his brief remembrances of his old life as we do from his accepting an apology followed by shooting Emmett in cold blood. A quiet conversation between Michelle and Emmett (John Gallagher, Jr., in a smaller but important role) adds pathos and theme to both characters, conveying the irony that someone too afraid to leave now finds himself physically unable to do so, and someone too afraid to intervene in parental abuse now finds herself being abused by a surrogate parent.
That idea provides the thematic depth of 10 Cloverfield Lane. Like Vertigo, there is something incredibly unnerving about someone trying to recreate a relationship they lost, forcing strangers into playing parts from a past they cannot let go of. But that theme is given greater weight when it comes from a man who is clearly ensconced in perilous ideas about control and protection and being prepared for the worst, who inflicts his own damage on the world after losing his daughter. There is a subtext to the film that not only makes it something deeper than a series of thrills, but which adds to the unnerving qualities of the space Howard has created and the people he has impressed into populating it.
In truth, the film loses a little of that luster when it dispenses with the claustrophobic tenseness of the bunker setting (replete with superbly framed shots and a score that heightens the intensity of each scene) and closes with a stalk-and-battle sequence between Michelle and the extraterrestrial invaders. But that too can coast of the shock of the fact that 10 Cloverfield Lane is having its cake and eating it too, mashing up the fibbing jailer and the sole survivor narratives into something that would make Rod Serling proud. This film is an example of the greatness that emerges when you take the tropes of a genre, stand them on their head, and find the natural anxieties and lived-in characters at the core of these stories.
Very, very good and thrilling movie. I wish I hadn't seen the trailer first, though. Some stuff they show just ruins part of the movie.
I really liked the movie even though the ending was a bit ... furious, in comparison to the rest of the movie. It started very slowly, almost boringly at times and has a very oppressive and tense feeling to it in general. The story about the woman being captured in a bunker reminded me of that Austrian girl, Kampusch. What a horrifying situation. Then again you don't learn much about the characters and their motives, so I was unsure about who is the bad guy (or girl) the whole time.
The cast here is great. The direction is terrific. I had no idea that Dan Trachtenberg could do this. He'd always been the quieter cast member on the old Revision 3 web channel's "The Totally Rad Show" (I miss it). It's going to be fun seeing what he does next.
John Goodman is awesome as a mostly calm, psychotic survivalist keeping two hostages. This is a really taut thriller. It kept me riveted and constantly guessing what would happen next. The last 20 minutes is bonkers. The only thing that knocks it down from a potentially excellent rating from me is the last moment of the film. It didn't quite satisfy.
Here's hoping this is the beginning of an anthology series. A "Twilight Zone" or "Outer Limits" style series feels much needed these days.
Good acting, but when will studios realise that J.J. Abrams is a shit poor director!
This movie had early moments where it seemed as if it might have a chance,., but then things started to turn.. I still can not figure out what in the heck they were thinking providing an ending like that... When it finally revealed itself I was like "I just wasted nearly 2 hours of my time on this rediculous plot"..I still am amazed they went with that kind of ending..it made the entire movie worthless at that point.. I am still angry. HA!
turned into quiet a crazy film, one of those films that makes you think and then not expect what comes!! i liked :)
I loved everything about the movie except the ending! I was disappointed it ended that way.
This is a film that would be most enjoyable with you knowing the least about it. The title itself is an allusion to a film released almost a decade prior, but even by watching through the film it's not yet clear how the events of the film will unfold. It bounces you back and forth, giving you a reason to believe the protagonist, then to other character, then back again, until all of it reaches the climax and left you with a few words: "god damn it." The ending is a bit anti-climatic, however, with a character finding a newly found motivation, looking toward a sequel.
Holy crap. I did not see that ending coming, that was insane!
Starts off looking like a mixture between misery and saw. You can just see the unoriginality jump out.
Long non suspensfu shots instead of dialogue or development as filler. Boring characters apart from John Goodman's who is OK but still too unnatural emotionally and the plots surrounding him are just obvious dead end's to fill time and try and add mystery. Dk the plots even matter by the end? The story is put together in a clunky and illogical way. I mean the women knows the outside is dangerous yet is determined to escape. Why? Because the man inside may be dangerous? Kill him with the other guy then if it's that bIg a deal. But no because we need a boring escape scenario. Every scenario is boring. Even down to the details like when John Goodman's character lands in acid he come up looking grazed.
It's just unoriginal idea mash ups from the start finish. Worst of all all the themes used are never explored or presented interestingly. They skim the surface every time. At the end it's even more stupid with a Jurassic Park T Rex car scene with some alien instead. Plot twist? My arse.
Boring and insulting movie.
It was an awesome movie... until the last 15 minutes. They should've kept the mystery.
Great movie, the best psychological thriller I've seen in a while.
This was a good one, with unexpected final. I was focused the whole time.
Good as the 2008 cloverfield movie. But what happens next? -_-
just when you think you got the story down boom a plot twist hits you
What a crazy one. If anyone told me about it beforehand I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it. Only watch it without spoilers!
Look at Danny Trachtenberg all grown up since the days of Totally Rad Show. Good work.
Agree with everyone else: excellent movie, the less you know about it before watching, the better.
jesus is John Goodman unnerving.
This movie was awesome. Great plot and well done until about the last 5 minutes.
The final turn of events ruined the movie for me totally. There was no need to swithch like that. I was very disappointed.
I've been waiting for this movie to come out for a long time, and I must say it was worth it. Loved everything about it! Mary Elizabeth Winstead's performance was absolutely terrific, same for John Goodman. If you haven't watched it yet, do it!
Something very different from it's predecessor, but it's amazing , extremely thrilling experience! I was clenching my seat a lot, it was so exciting. and the ending had me excited for the future of this movie franchise.
Very intense movie that leads to a surprising conclusion.
Wow... Curiosity was amazing... Till the end i thought it's the simple story about abduction... Little that I understood at the end.... Such an underrated movie.
Totally blew my mind :hugging::100::sweat_smile::thumbsup:
john goodman was v scary and it was an interesting plot but at the end i was left wanting to know more idk. Seen this at a halloween drive in movie, it was the coolest.
I saw Cloverfield (2018) and enjoyed it, but I went into this blindly (as many have said makes it more enjoyable) and was mostly let down. The premise is good and I did enjoy some of the twists and tense scenes, but ultimately it felt like the set-up burned too much time. It was so dull I even started itching to turn it off and just rewatch Cloverfield. Also, I find it funny how some say the ending ruined the film, while others say it is the only good part. My personal opinion is that the ending doesn't make or break anything, but was at least exciting and contributed slightly to the action to downtime ratio.
10 Cloverfield Lane is a good movie with an intense plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film is full of unexpected twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end. One of the standout performances in the movie is by John Goodman, who delivers a chilling and captivating portrayal of his character. Overall, a good thriller with a talented cast and a thrilling storyline.
While this is considered a spiritual successor to Cloverfield, this movie is completely different in tone and style. The first movie had a simple and straightforward plot while this movie is more of a mystery, and I actually liked this movie more than the original due to that. Even though there are only three characters in this movie that we really are shown, this movie is able to do so much with that by creating a psychological mystery mixed with sci-fi horror and leaving you wondering who the villains actually are.
It's a solid thriller, with satisfyingly intense performances, especially Goodman, who not only does a good job of keeping you guessing, but oozes a creepiness that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It feels a little shoehorned into the Cloverfield universe by the end, but that's a minor quibble.
Well this movie definitely takes a weird turn. Like most people say, the less you know about this movies before hand, that better.
Absolutely amazing movie, made me feel all sorts of things, which is what art is supposed to do. I agree with other reviewers, the best thing to do is to go into it with as few spoilers and as little knowledge about the plot as possible.
A lot of what I felt was extremely uncomfortable for many parts, but the movie did a fantastic job of relieving the tension when necessary, and keeping the viewer guessing about what was really going on and how it would end. I spent the first hour wondering repeatedly how on earth this movie was going to connect with the plot of the original Cloverfield (and that still wasn't really ever explained besides "aliens") but after about 1h15m I was too absorbed in it to worry about that. Phenomenal acting all around; John Goodman is remarkably creepy and multifaceted as Howard, and Mary Elizabeth Winsted knocks it out of the park as Michelle. I'd previously only seen her in The Thing, which she was also amazing in.
I think this movie could have been better received if it didn't try to connect to Cloverfield at all and was just a cool sci-fi thriller, but that's just me. I'll probably watch The Cloverfield Paradox now despite the fact that it looks like it really doesn't connect with this one in any way.
The majority of the movie was exciting, intense, and mysterious. The ending was slightly cheesy and cliche, but overall, a worthwhile watch.
John Goodman is fantastic in this. Would love a prequel and sequel to this. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is also great in this. I want more.
What can I say.... I was completely wrong. This is crazy. I love it.
Watch it twice to be sure of what the heck your eyes just saw lol.
Even when it was obvious right from the beginning (with all the foreshadowing) that Howard is a psycho, I loved watching it. How Michelle convinced Emmett that Howard isn't okay in the head, how they planned and executed their escape (well, minus the unfortunate but also cliché death of the guy). Hell, I'd been okay even with the contamination part only... but this ending was just ridiculous.
Barely anything was shown of the aliens, and although the very end gave it a kinda The Walking Dead vibe with the hope of survivors getting together, I still hate that this movie turned into a sci-fi. It would've been so much better to just stick with the abducting-and-killing-psycho storyline and let the ending be Michelle escaping, informing authorities and reuniting with his boyfriend.
As another commenter wrote here (and I guess more people too), I didn't want to spoil the plot by reading up on it, but if I'd known that this would end in an alien sci-fi way, I probably wouldn't have watched it. Yes, I know that only the last like 10 minutes showed these monsters, but I still prefer watching a movie only about a narcissistic, controlling, cold-blooded murderer human monster.
That was intense. I mean, really freaking intense.
John Goodman is beyond great in this. Probably the best performance of 2016 that needs to talked about more.
Baffled...glad I only paid $5

Big a$$ alien spaceship vs one ungrateful little woman
John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are both so good here. The whole movie is super tense. I don't really like the ending and wish it would of ending like 10 minutes before it actually does.
Unlike the first Cloverfield movie which I only give a 7 on a lark for killing off T.J. Miller, this movie leaned just shy of earning an 8, for what was actually a pretty cool ending moment. Ultimately, it was a decent movie, but not one I'd likely find myself watching again. For someone more into tense thrillers, I imagine this would be a solid 8 or 9 movie, but I mostly came to this movie for Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman, both of whom gave solid performances, and the former of which really makes this movie.
John Goodman's performance in this rivals Jack Nicholson's from "The Shining," I'm not even kidding. Holy fuck, I love John Goodman.
Really effective twisting, turning, second-guessing suspense with an ending that hangs around for way too long and disrupts the great atmosphere that had been established. For the most part, this is a fine example of making the most of a small set and an even smaller cast. The three-person acting team draws every bit of fear, loathing, confusion and betrayal from the simple, efficient script. We explore every nook and cranny of John Goodman's bunker until it all feels like home, making for a thrilling game of hide-and-seek when the tension inevitably boils over.
The terror is mostly psychological and quiet, which makes the infrequent bursts of sound and fury all the more effective. These aren't just jump-cuts, they're bullets through the fog. They carry meaning and consequence, reverberating well beyond the moment of impact. And if it had ended about ten minutes earlier, the shock of its final reveal would've been maintained without spoiling any of that work.
A pity, then, that it reaches all the way into summer blockbuster territory in some vain attempt to tie things into an otherwise-unrelated preceding film. This may not have enjoyed as many eyeballs without that extra word in the title, but it would've been so much more effective as a film.
Overall, the movie was pretty good, If you can ignore the end.

Wow, this was a great movie actually. Way way better than the the first installment which was pretty messy. This one had an actual story and great performances. Pretty thrilling too even though there isn't a lot of action in the movie.
Every thing will be fine!
Didn’t have the real creepiness I was hoping for.
Worth seeing just for Goodman's performance. Most of the tension in the movie comes from the Is he a dangerous psycho or just a paranoiac survivalist ? question and he plays it perfectly. Winstead is pretty good too.
The story in itself is good, it's a good idea, it's well executed, and I would have liked much more if I hadn't already seen the exact same story (https://trakt.tv/shows/metal-hurlant-chronicles/seasons/1/episodes/2).
Act 1: Guy kidnaps girl. She wakes up and he tells it's the end of the world but she's safe in his bunker. Act 2: She obviously think it's fake and tries to escape. Something makes her think it's true. Act 3: They live together and get along. Then she finds out somthing weird about him. Act 4: Fight. Manages to escape. Turns out it's really the end of the world.
Still good, and probably original for most people, I don't think that many saw this show. But it uses the same situation, plays in the same way with how the survivalist is perceived, balancing between psycho and savior, and with its parallel, it it true or not ? Exact same resolution too. And again very good, in the concept and the realisation.
It's just that it was way too close, so it felt like a copy to me. Some changes in the details of implementations of each act, but so very small.
The whole part where they try to make a protective suit from a shower curtain feels extremely stupid though. And she even uses it...
The ending was entertaining. In line with Howard worse theories, but hey, it's not because you're paranoiac that they're not after you. Not so sure it's very in line with Cloverfield except for the concept: something massive happens, but we don't follow the main action, just ordinary people. You could have some interesting stories (though pretty similar to already done stuff) in this world. Again, not sure it can be considered as the same as Cloverfield (even if the monster was part of an alien attack, there are no sign of technology).
John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are absolutely fantastic in this and I love how smart Winstead's character is. This film is extremely well-crafted, suspenseful, and claustrophobic. I loved every second of this film except for the "Cloverfield" ending...this movie probably would've been better if it not forced to be a Cloverfield film
Sci-fi at it's best. The director is smart enough to make a great sci-fi movie without a cosmic budget. I'd love to see at least a second episode. Great story, actors and execution.
I thought as the film went on it started to get better, but nearly turned it off at one point
It's was amazing. Thank you for making me feel the thrill in this Sci Fi apocalyptic alien Shit!

Nice plot....but forgettable ending, childish.
Me pareció haber visto el inicio de una película pegado al final de otra. Hubiesen estado mejor por separado, prometía mucho más!
And now you know what booze is for (not for drinking as you may thought) ;>
Starts like the typical crazy person holding people captive movie only to have a really open ended stupid finally.
About the only things this movie has in its favor as far as I´m concerned is the tension and Goodmans performance. The end really was a letdown.
Oh....no. This film was such a disappointment - the first 2/3 had me going and then......aliens! Oh Gawd....
I think insider knowledge and speculation about the links to Cloverfield ruined this for me as it just didn't impress me. Probably was a good twist for the unsuspecting and I'm not denying it was a good ending, but I think it just didn't have full impact on me. The tension-filled entirety of the plot wa great and seeing John Goodman melt into that role was so refreshing and exciting. Not sure if it was a good or a bad thing his arc wasn't uncovered but I guess it works as being told from the girl's perspective.
It is a shame a connection to the film Cloverfield is suggested by the title, because whether or not such a connection exists (and that is best left for the audience to discover), it can't help but colour your initial viewing of the film. It is also completely unnecessary as what we have here is a claustrophobic film that has several shifts in tone throughout to keep the audience on its toes. Here the filmmakers are more interested in playing with the viewer's perceptions of the characters themselves, with Winstead as the audience surrogate throughout the film, and a strong performance from John Goodman ensures that although his character is never quite trusted, it is equally difficult to dismiss his explanations. The film doesn't outstay its welcome, but to say anything regarding the final act is unnecessary, suffice to say that Winstead's own reaction in the film may well echo sentiments from the audience, but more importantly, it also feels superfluous to what is a well-executed tense thriller.
Wish I had not wasted my time, what a ridiculous ending. #ShiftvW8
I loved Cloverfield but WTF was this shit?
It was nice to see a movie with Jihn Goodman who really delivered here. But not a friend of the rest of the crew and movie.. oh my.. there are some parts in the movie that are downright silly and an insult to the audience. Also the main actress was constantly trying to inadvertently kill herself with her stupidity...
The acting was incredible. I also loved that Michelle was quick to think throughout the movie. I actually really enjoyed it until the end when she figured out what was really happening on the outside. It just came too sudden, at least for me. And it was completely overdone in terms of looks and it all, just not my cup of tea
Ending ruined the whole movie.
it was really good till the ending -.-"
John Goodman was worth the price of admission. The movie was good despite parts being laughably terrible.

Set in the same universe as the sickening --- literally sickening due to incompetent cinematographers who don't know how to keep a camera steady --- Cloverfield, this movie nonetheless is of a different kind. And it is more watchable too.
Some kind of catastrophe has happened, and a woman who is in an accident and unconscious while the event happened, finds herself trapped in a survival bunker with two men, one of which is a middle aged paranoid man who had the bunker built and another youngish man who helped build it. She suspects that the older man in actually crazy and exaggerates the danger. She also discovers clues that the older man is a sexual predator. With help of the younger man, she engineers her escape, only to discover that the most wild and unrealistic of the old man's speculations about what has happened came true: aliens did invade earth, and are exterminating the current inhabitants like roaches. Suddenly the bunker doesn't seem such a crazy idea after all. She defeats one of the aliens' automated ships, and starts on her way back to whatever is left of civilization as the movie ends.

Was fun until the last 10 minutes. I guess it's partially my fault for not knowing what Cloverfield was in the first place, and not knowing that this was a sequel, because if I did, I wouldn't have watched this in the first place. I hate aliens.
