Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in hisssssssss
The cameos in this ep were 100
[8.0/10] I was wondering when and if the vampires from the What We Do in the Shadows movie would pop up in the show, and this was a delightful way to do it. We didn’t just get the TV vampires interacting with their cinematic forebears, but also tongue-in-cheek crossovers with the vamps from Only Lovers Left Alive, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, From Dusk til Dawn, True Blood, and even a characteristically phoned-in appearance from Wesley Snipes as Blade. (Also, for some reason, Dave Bautista?)
There was admittedly, some awkwardness in trying to stitch together a conversation amid all these actors who were clearly on set at different times, but somehow the show made the back and forth banter, and the mix of gothic ceremony and parliamentary procedure very amusing. The group presiding over a trial for our heroes, and having silly exchanges about who should be punished and how, was a really fun bit to play out. (More Tilda Swinton in comedies please!)
But the comedy worked apart from that big showpiece scene. Matt Berry as Lazlo has really grown on me here. Just him shouting “this is very odd” while the vampiric council danced got a big laugh out of me, and the big about him making a baby into a vampire and stashing it in the Bronx was a dark gag with a nice kicker later in the episode. Colin Robinson continues to shine with his umbrella bit, his “vampire roller coaster” bit, and even his “what the fuck am I suppose to do?” line, where his low-key, almost impish energy just shines through. And Kristen Schaal is a boon wherever she shows up. Her saying something ominous only to finish her sentence and then reveal something mundane is a good gag.
I also enjoyed the continuing developments in Guillermo realizing that his master is just stringing him along. His meeting the other familiars who wax rhapsodic about the day they’ll definitely be turned into vampires despite never having actually met a familiar who’s been turned is a great way for him to have a low-key epiphany. His role as an accidental vampire killer (twice now) is a nice way to possibly presage him becoming a Van Helsing-type figure with a justifiable grudge against the vamps. And just the look on his face as he carries the box full of bats tells you he’s had enough of this crap.
Overall, a really fun episode that will be remembered for it’s big fun vamp crossover, but which has a lot going for it apart from that as well.
Kristen Schaal alone would have been enough to make this episode great, the cameos make it even better.
"she is speaking the bullshit!"
Best cross-over episode EVER!
Fro some reason it's just makes me happy to see familiar faces that you're not expecting to see on any circumstances. And they even referenced the cameos that weren't there. Masterpiece.
Please let the show have a second season.
If this episode doesn't deserve a Totally Ninja pontuation, i don't know what does!
One of the best episodes of 2019 for sure
My face hurts from smiling and laughing so much!
So happy this got renewed! Really enjoying this show! Can't wait for next week!
Quite possibly Kristen Schaal's best role ever. And that Council was amazing. I will always celebrate a Buffy (1992) callback.
The cameos in this episode were excellent. This is the true, one and only crossover.
I just love Kristen Schaal anywhere she is!
“There’s more ravens and they’re shitting me up!”
I was surprised by the amount of guest stars and cameos in this episode. Also, quite a coincidence watching this episode today to see Wesley Snipes as news of the new live-action Blade show is just being announced and talked about during SDCC 2019 this week.
a cameo dream come true!
Best episode so far! Looks promising for the future.
Amazing!!!!!!! All those cameo's!!!!
My cheeks hurts from smiling too much!
"Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in his(s)tory" who? Man, that was glorious. I was almost shrieking with delight at each successive cameo reveal. Coupled that with Taika Waititi's direction and Jemaine Clement's writing not to mention their appearances themselves, and this just eeks past the third episode "Werewolf Feud" as my favorite of the season. Love this show.
Actually hilarious, best episode so far. It was so cool seeing the original vampires from the film and all the guest stars were amazing.
Loved the council. Show took a while to get here but it was worth it.
I thought the episode was pretty average... Until the Vampire Council is revealed. Oh, what a joy, then!
The world of The Shadows goes from mad to worse when Matt Berry’s blunders all come home to roost (rather like bats) and our team have a vampire court to appease.
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself double-taking at various familiar faces and voices... count ‘em :thumbsup_tone1:
Just brilliant. “LED lights... the Fire Marshalls would freak! “
The best episode so far. If only I could get hold of the guy who turned a baby into a vampire and left him in Bronx...
In terms of pop culture, the among of cameos (seen and unseen, mentioned or whatever) is just GOLD. One of the best episodes of the season so far!

One of my favorite episodes of TV in a very long time. The cameos were superb, the absent cameo mentions great, Kristen Schaal's presence, Colin's role, etc.
Oh and baby vampire. WHO WOULD DO THAT?!
