So far so good, gotta love it for the setting alone. The Thing DVD on the shelf was an absolutely impeccable touch.

Really f-in’ good start. Love the cast. Love the erie cold desolate gritty setting. It’s hard to nail down exactly why it is but this show is just better than the rest. I guess it’s all of it. It’s just good without being pretentious or calling too much attention to itself,

Would love to be a fly on the wall to witness the negotiations requiring ‘based on the series True Detective by Nic Pizzolatto’ to be in the credits

The mystery seems quite intriguing... I was already missing an HBO series!

It was nice for Bob from Twin Peaks to drop by and do an interpretive dance.

Great start to the season.

Very – I mean VERY – strong Fortitude vibes.

I love when TV shows hamfist a billion character expositions into a 6 episode season after a 5 year hiatus with each resolving with "Are we ever gonna talk about 'That Day' or 'That Time' or that inconspicuous event that predates the pilot?"

No. Because we don't have fucking time. It's such a common cliche and symptom of lazy writing. It's not uncommon of a pilot though and hopefully it'll find it's footing soon. Because filming nothing but night scenes over an arduous and rigorous production schedule won't amount for much if you can't nail the fundamentals. The worst part, is that all they had to do was remove "True Detective" from Night Country to resolve the backlash - Because while the title may benefit your marketing, it can also harm the reputation of your brand. And there's a mountain of expectation to live up to.

I'm extremely sceptical. But it should get better.

The storytelling's a mess.
It opens strong by setting up a compelling mystery. Then they pretty much ignore that hook for most of the episode. Instead, we get shown the minutiae of daily life for some unpleasant cops. And there's a cold case. Plus ghosts(!?!).
It's an unpalatable mixture of procedural and supernatural that feels like Fargo on an off day.
5/10

Meh. Not a True Detective show, just an interesting mystery. Production is bleh, like some intern had a great idea to impress the boss and the boss was desperate enough pitch it. Bring back Nick Pizzolatto.

loading replies

I am absolutely loving the setting. Everything just looks super cool and mysterious.

loading replies

So far, this is a decent start of a promising story.

I've never seen True Detective before, but I'm jumping in here because the supernatural element, diversity, queer cast and characters got my attention. It's great that each season is its own show, if you don't like 1, you might 2... there's something for everyone.

Also, "The Thing" DVD placement at the lab was a beautiful reference and inspiration tribute.

The first episode was ok. be interesting to see how much woke shite they push in the following episodes. at times it was like watching paint dry. I dont think even Jodie Foster will save this show... I might be wrong !!

loading replies

Feel like a netflix show, to much cgi for true detective. Was really looking forward to this, but little bit disappointed. Let’s see what the other episodes bring.

loading replies

Man those CGI reindeer were something.

I am thinking this is going to be The Thing meets The Terror meets Season 1 of True Detective. Not a clear picture in episode one of how deep they are willing to go.

My only gripe is that dialog is pretty bad. Not the acting, but the writing. It’s like someone has never heard actual humans having a conversation. I don’t want to say that it’s because Issa López has only done Spanish cinema before this, but maybe it’s an English thing… idk. The future episodes have some other writers so it will be interesting if the quality of the dialog changes.

There's not enough detecting happening.

Well, apparently i'm the only one who is not excited by the episode. I have recentrly bing all three seasons of the show.
My first big objection here is i do not like the way it goes with tribes, stories from the tribes, old curses stuff that explain by folklore and all that. They do not appeal for me, it is a very easy way out on every show. But will of course see the rest as i hope for some great story based a bit on logic.

And i'm sorry about Jodie, but i do believe that at some point actors should retire. She is not good, very old to act and it is not great acting.

loading replies

Yeah, Issa López is definitely cooking here! The eerie vibes are back in full force and I'm here for it.

Having been an advocate of the franchise, I believe like many a seasoned fan, Season 1 reigns supreme. It set the bar with an outstanding cast, an enigmatic plot, impeccable pacing, and an atmosphere of mystery that kept us guessing and anticipating with each instalment. Night Country is off to a great #@%(!)ng start with reasonable intrigue and suspense - despite the introduction of a lot of new faces, you just can't go wrong with Jodie Foster at the helm… bring it on!!

loading replies

The biggest disappointment on TV in 2024. This series should have been released the way it was conceived - as its own thing not connected to True Detective in any way. Unlikable characters, bad music, plot holes aplenty and a lacklustre mystery. This was worse than season 2.

Dexter NB, Fargo, now this show. Snow and ice start to frighten me. Speaking of Fargo: this episode feels just like Fargo. Native Americans, ghosts, uncanny encounters, and the officer even wears a Minnesota Vikings shirt.

What a pleasant surprise to have Jodie back on the small screen though.

The main question is ..

.. will this hold up to the greatness that was Season 4 of FARGO?

loving seeing shows embrace the Twin Peaks tones

loading replies

Interesting start but this feels more like an American Horror Story kind of season with all the supernatural shit

Very strong start. Dark, suspenseful, great to look at it, and Jodie Foster is tremendously cast. Can’t wait to see how this season pans out
