Even at home, Jamie can't seem to find peace or safety. For the past couple of years, The Watch (like a mafia) has been taking protection money from the Frasers to guard against other clans and the British. This news is something Jamie does not agree with mainly as he sees the Watch as robbers taking advantage of the people. On top of there being a price on his head.
It's interesting watching Jamie have to play a chess game against the Watch and Horrock, trying to maintain peace for the sake of the family, but also to keep from being turned over for the bounty of his head. This internal battle for him, as having to accept those he considers criminals in his house, even at the request of his wife and sister, is played to a tee. Each word, each action weighed against the what's best for the family and the estate.
We also get alot of talk of war tales, reminding us how much violence was part of life. We even see Ian kill Horrocks in an attempt to remove a threat from the family, as he was trying to estort Jamie for money in exchange for his silence about the bounty on his head.
On the flip side, we see Jenny and Claire getting along better, bonding over keeping peace and keeping Jamie safe. Claire has found her spot within the family and has become a friend to Jenny. Their friendship is secured when it's Claire that Jenny has to trust when she goes into early labor and Claire must help her deliver.
But the end is unexpected. The Watch, under Horrock's info, walks into an unknown trap, killing most of The Watch, but having Jamie taken prisoner by the Red Coats.
