The plot twist of this episode is engaging, something good and different breaking the monotony of the Marvel universe.
This is one of the strongest episodes so far. That ending is wild. Marc Spector, Stephan Grant and a hippo roll into a mental institution inside his own head. What a trip!

It's Moon Knight meets Indiana Jones and Uncharted as the fourth episode of the series switches things up a bit and goes for a very streamlined, but also very enjoyable, tomb raiding adventure that slowly builds up towards something bigger while taking time to develop the central character relations. We are long overdue for some backstory, and the tail end of this episode offers a very intriguing, Jeff Lemire-inspired visit to a mental hospital that certainly offers some interesting prospects as to who the key players of the story truly are.

Oscar Isaac is continually impressive, especially in the scenes where he has a conversation with himself through reflective objects; it's a gimmick that hasn't run dry yet. The Marc/Steven/Layla triple act is perfected by now, and they make for entertaining viewing, whether it's through heated conversations, sweeter and friendlier moments or hectic action sequences. There's finally some time devoted to the seeming rocky relationship between Steve/Marc and Layla, with May Calamawy giving her very best performance so far. Ethan Hawke is here to prove that Arthur Harrow isn't simply messing around - he's a man of his words and determined in his actions and that makes him a genuinely engaging baddie. He, too, gives his best performance so far.
It's notable how well this episode works without a single frame devoted to Moon Knight or Mr Knight.
Things are heating up nicely, from the pulse-pounding opening to the The Mummy-style adventuring through desert landscapes and ancient tombs. The humour is toned down a little in favour of some more dramatic moments, all in service of character development. Episode 4 is more focused on pure adventuring and a slower build-up of tension; it's like playing a level of Uncharted. The people behind this episode aren't ashamed of leaning into classic adventure film territory here, and they do it well. I do believe this series needs a slightly slower and more focused episode, aiming to entertain viewers with some good old jump scares, while firmly keeping the eye on the price. The final third of this episode is as intriguing as it is tense and mysterious, immediately setting a new course for the show and switching into high gear for the remaining episodes.
We are introduced to a whole new corner of the MCU through beautiful location footage, truly cementing Moon Knight as an MCU project quite far removed from anything we've seen so far. Some beautiful camera work in the final third of the episode changes the tone mid-episode, and it's very striking.

With the series going in a very different direction now, there's no clear end goal in sight and it makes me somewhat nervous as to what the final two episodes can manage to squeeze in to offer a satisfying ending.
2 more episodes and we'll all be either paranoid or exploring our inner selves in hope for a transcending experience and a magnificent transformation :smile:

[7.7/10] Hell of an ending, huh? While I don’t buy that Marc and/or Steven is actually in a mental institution, I appreciate the show going all “Normal Again” with this. It’s a mindscrew of a finish, one that keeps the audience off-balance in wondering whether everything that's happened so far is just in Marc’s head or if he’s somewhere in his own subconscious, or the Egyptian realm of the dead, puzzling this out.
I like the chance to speculate and wonder, but I also just appreciate the mood of the thing. There’s that Keyser Soze-esque realization as Marc looks around the room, wondering if all that he’s experienced is the product of an (incredibly faithful low-budget production) of an adventuring archeologist movie, his fellow inmates, and the Egyptian-themed decor on the walls. Moon Knight has already been something of a reflection of a (highly Holywood-ized vision of) multiple personality syndrome. Making that possibility more literal is a treat in the door it opens up.
Speaking of which, there’s an odd sort of catharsis to Marc opening up a sarcophagus, finding Steven inside, and then hugging his doppelganger. The prospect of another personality lurking there in another fancy coffin is intriguing. And a talking hippo-like god adds to the trippy vibe of this whole thing.
Honestly, the production design and aesthetic may be my favorite part of this series. Moreso than a lot of MCU productions, there’s some truly imaginative cinematography (see: Marc’s fade into nothingness that transitions from a close-up to a flashlight in the movie), really cool lighting (candle flickers and the griminess of the tomb contrasted with the bright light of the mental hospital), and creative framings (the way the tomb ghoul lurks at the edges of the frame before it’s revealed). This feels like a 1990s blockbuster in many ways, and a little more diversity and attention to detail in the visual presentation befits that.
Likewise, I enjoyed when this turned into an out-and-out horror movie. Steven and Layla having to evade the tomb ghoul was downright terrifying. The way it moved, clicked, grasped from the shadows added a pure sense of terror to the proceedings. As weak as I’ve found a lot of the action thus far, “The Tomb” did suspense and horror very well, with the sequence of the ghoul attacking Layla above the chasm being particularly frightening.
I’ll confess that I’m less invested in the character drama here. Harrow’s tempter routine is still good, but when he does it every episode, it starts to get a little tiresome. The reveal that Marc was involved in the murder of Layla’s father is a bit contrived, even if you can write it off as the reason that he and Layla met, not a random coincidence. The acting is uniformly good here. Oscar Isaac does an amazing job all around. May Calamawy drives home the emotion of her affection, fear, and fury. And Ethan Hawke is just as good as a condescending psychiatrist as he is as a Big Bad. But as cute as the courtship between Steven and Layla is, the other personal issues spilling out aren’t quite as compelling.
Still, this is basically a dark-tinged Indiana Jones adventure or riff on The Mummy, and on that measure, it works. Some of the logistics are a little silly, like the eye maze. On the whole, though, the metes and bounds of the quest are well-defined, and we understand what Layla and Steven are looking for, why it matters, and what an ostensible nobody like Steven has to contribute to the effort.
Some of the individual scenes do drag. Every once in a while the sort of genericness of the adventure story takes over. But fun bits like Steven having to reach into the mummified mouth of ALexander the Great(!) to retrieve Ahmet’s vessel, or cute banter between him and Layla, or the head-trip that is the way this one closes up elevates this one and makes it feel distinctive within the MCU framework.
oh, this was a GREAT episode. now we're talking! this was so well made, oh my god. the terror! the adventure! the ending! so good.
MAY CALAMAWY! she's so good! a really great secondary character, giving other past marvel female characters who were not so interesting compared to their male counterparts (i'm looking at you sylvie!)
and OSCAR ISAAC. he's so captivating! just what marvel needs right now: great actors who gives all of themselves to the role. and ethan hawke... just the perfect antagonist. NOW, after THIS EPISODE, i'm looking forward to the future of these characters. i'm caring, just like i should.
I was expecting Tomb Raider vibes and I got that and way more than I bargained for, what a ride.

Even when an MCU movie or tv show is not for me, I can still appreciate the efforts that the creators and Studio took. This episode is a good reflection of that.

Easily my favourite episode so far of the bunch, continuing the show's trek of slowly becoming quite possibly my favourite of the Disney+ shows - that is if it can keep this momentum going into the final act of the show. But as it stands, this is a great piece of supernatural goodness that's very much up my alley in terms of what I wanted to see from the show from the beginning. It's delightfully spooky and the vibes of Tomb Raider are all over this thing in a good way. And the chemistry of Oscar Isaac and May Calamawy really takes off in this episode as well, making a bizarre yet compelling love triangle actually work in the long run.
But it's the last 10 minutes where Moon Knight finally reveals it's trump card, and suddenly the entire series is flipped on it's head in a damn good way. Answers are likely coming sooner or later, but as somebody who intimately familiar with the Jeff Lemire run from 2016 I can safely say that the show is heading into really dark, uncharted territory if they manage to pull this off. The cinematography change here too, from the shakier, grittier parts of the "real world" to the more clean and sophisticated style of the new one really puts into perspective how things have changed for Marc and Steven, and the final reveal is both wonderfully odd and genuinely hilarious. Fantastic stuff!

Still the weakest thing Marvel has put out, even behind Eternals, but better than previous episodes. Again, no Moon Knight which makes this a supernatural romp and not really a super hero show.
Plot was very predictable and I am not convinced this is going to end anywhere interesting at this point.
When I got to the end of this episode it really hammered in what I was feeling since episode 1 -I'd rather be watching Legion instead.
This show has STILL YET to make me care even slightly about any of the characters, and I really want to.... I thought they'd really explore mental health in the series from the first episode and I thought that'd make it interesting and they have hardly done anything with that theme, besides heavily "borrowing" from Legion in the last 15 minutes.
Besides that, its all the same. Sloppy pacing and writing, weird unnatural dialog, and boring action.
Once again, I absolutely LOVED every other MCU TV show, before I get written off as a hater.
What I find most disheartening is how much MCU fans are just gobbling this drivel up without question and raving over it.
That was the most fun I’ve had watching a superhero show maybe ever. Layla makes a dramatic showing of her field skills in what feels like the true introduction to her character.
Well, the last segment of the episode was certainly more interesting than anything else that came earlier, and also more interesting than the entire last episode. So I guess that's a good thing.

I don't know. Four out of six episodes and I'm still not into it. And this is not about whether I like Marvel shows or not. It's the whole thing that doesn't speak to me. That's all right, though.
Half The Mummy, half Legion, but not as charming as the former, nor as quirky as the latter. Nice ending, though.

When I said they were putting self-cest back on the table I didn't expect them to deliver quite so thoroughly. It does make the fanfic i was scrolling through make so much more sense though
6.5/10 - Thinks are starting to make less sense again - or rather - it's getting more confusing. The story is still progressing though. But I hope this season will have a satisfying ending (at the moment I have almost no idea where it's heading and how it could end).
I didn't see that psychic part at the end coming. But then again I'm not really surprised giving some other Marvel TV shows.
At least Marc and Steven were happy to see each other for once. (Plus Layla and Steven shared their feelings.)
And I loved their reaction to that friendly "Hi" at the end xD

Im so confused right now. Like what the hell is going on. I liked the episode tho it was cool especially when they found the tomb and the thingy that was fun. But then getting shot and after that has really confused me.
Not as good as the previous ones, but that ending was a great way to catch the attention again.
This show has turned into what I could imagine a bad LSD trip might look like. From having the premise of being a cool superhero show it has become unintelligible rubbish. Very Hollywood unfortunately.
So Marvel decides to erase Legion only to make severe allusions to…Legion.
I have been let down by this show every episode. Action scenes fail to pack a punch, CG feels plastic and lifeless, and the plot itself feels like it bounces around with little regard to rising action or forward momentum. It’s sad to know that the MCU casts two of the finest actors working today only to sideshow them in this series where the heat they bring onscreen is shadowed by the flat visuals and weightless action choreography.
I enjoyed the adventure aspects of this episode—particularly the brief scene from that fake film towards the end. It suddenly felt clear that this show should all adventure all the time, Indiana Jones-style. It’s not far off from it, truthfully, but the forays where it does veer from this course bore me.
This was the MCU series I was most excited for, and so far this has been the weakest by a significant margin. Give me Loki every day.
I’ll be honest I was pretty turned off by about 90% of this episode wondering how we went from a cool vigilante mentally ill superhero in an awesome outfit to a historical mummy based show trying to make me feel bad for Layla who I’m still not sure why I should care about, but that last 10% was an awesome twist. Definitely got me excited to continue watching again.
The first half of the episode got me thinking I was playing The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes again. I have no idea if that part was in the comics or who ripped off who but it was eerily similar.

Can anyone with backstory explain what happened? Did it all happen in his head untill now or is just the mental hospital in his head while he is still sort of drowning and gonna jump out any time?
69 | What just happened. The beginning of this episode was tried to give a creepy atmosphere and the end of this episode just confusing and interesting at the same time. With all of the nonsense that happened, is it from the comic book material? Marc and Steven going to be more and more interesting characters after that ending. But it was unfortunate that the quality of this show was only maintained by Oscar Isaac, even Ethan Hawke's character was not that interesting.
