Drive to survive is good for the occasional fan, I guess this is good to bring new people to the sports which is something you gotta be grateful, in order to keep it rolling you need to keep it popular...
That said, there are 2 facts:
F1 season 2021 was the most exciting seasons since the 90's
Drive to survive season 4: Is the worst season of the pack so far
This last fact is sad cause this is was a great opportunity to bring even more fans to the sports, instead feels like this was made for Mercedes/Hamilton fans. So if you are already a fan and specially a Mercedes fan, you probably would enjoy this, but if you are looking for a brief of what happened during the season, or just as a preview for next season y recommend you to watch the highlights from each race instead.
Im not gonna list everything they missed here, I actually made a list, but its just too much, this season is heavily focus on Mercedes, there are few episodes with regards of McClaren, Hass (yes hass, and yes Mazepin) Ferrari and Alpine.
Some of the stuff they missed here
1.- One of the most popular drivers retired after this season, can you believe they did not mentioned Kimi in 10 episodes, only during the line ups
2.- No mention really of Vettel's first season with Aston, just barely, while he may not have won a rece this year, he definitely came back, beat his teammate and was really active during the season
3.-I understand Max did not participated in DtS, but all his victories were fast forward during the whole season 4, which makes it look like RB and him where just there by a miracle in the end
4.-This was the best season of Sergio Perez... just to have it on mind, other than the ending (cause it was impossible to avoid him) he is only shown saying that his suit is too large, or taking a selfie, there is more of Mazepin (until episode 9) than Sergio Perez and Kimi combined the whole season.
5.- On this same subject there were some great battles between Checo and Hamilton, this where huge cause it showed how he got ready to fight vs Hamilton In the last race, if you miss that fight between Hamilton and the white RB (like they skip in DTS) you should watch it if you enjoy racing
6.- Also, they missed to dive deep on the only victory of Checo, this was also important cause Hamilton made a mistake (which is fast forward) and this race also helps you to understand why Hamilton was more careful during the final race vs Checo
7.- They missed also a great Battle between Alonso vs Hamilton, that one made it possible for Ocon to win his first race, this was a huge battle and a great one, incredible not shown here
Anyway better watch the highlights.
Bonus: There is lot of whining of Toto about RB/Horner from whining too much... The thing is since you are only watching one side of the events, Toto will come out as super whining, but made no mistake, both were insufferable
This season of "drive to survive" is very much on the side of Mercedes or British, I don't know. They have put a lot of spotlights on Hamilton, Norris and Russell.
They have also highlighted the bad actions of the FIA to the benefit of Red Bull, but not those that benefited Mercedes, hence the tension and Horner's comment "why don't you just give them the world championship" referring to the FIA. Which is not understood in the documentary, as it doesn't tell the whole story.
In the grand prix where Verstappen has to give the position back to Hamilton for overtaking off track (Sakhir, turn 4). At no point does it mention that it was said by the FIA that drivers could not use the off-track tarmac area to gain time. Hamilton spent many laps being the fastest thanks to not respecting the track limits and being able to use another racing line. Exactly where Verstappen overtook is one of the points where Hamilton and other drivers were taking advantage of the track limits.
Both deserved to win the championship, but the FIA's handling of the rules was disastrous. Both the previous example and the one in the last chapter, where they should have let all lapped drivers through, not only those between Hamilton and Verstappen.
This show is still 100 times more entertaining than any F1 race.
I used to like Christian Horner, but he's just a spoiled baby with a massive chip on his shoulder. Sooner or later Verstappen is going to kill someone (hopefully himself) in a racing accident... but it won't be his fault.
10/10
i just teared up when i saw MAX win the word champion ship. Maybe there's some point unfair but at the end this is formula 1. a car racing competition.
Haven't seen it yet, but it is impossible for this season 4 of the show to capture the thrilling formula 1 2021 season. The producers could not imagine how cutthroat it would be and couldn't possibly get the footage early enough in the season to transmit that to the public. If you followed the races, I think Drive To Survive will let you down this year.

This is by far the weakest season, if it weren't for the cool intimate looks behind the scenes I would not be watching it. The show's format in season 1 worked well to introduce laypersons to the sport, but continuing that now completely disjoints the true storylines . For example, episode 2 was complete nonsense, how are you going to completely ignore Charles smashing into the barrier in Monaco and just say "o he's out with a gearbox issue". The show needs an overhaul and probably try episodes being race focused instead of character focused so everything makes sense chronologically, otherwise it's absolute chaos and half truths, you don't know when the highs and lows are for each of the drivers and teams.
Edit: Episode 7, Ocon's win, no mention of Alonso defending against Hamilton to keep him behind Vettel and Ocon. It's unconscionable to be this lazy with story telling.
