Anyone But You 2023

I went into this movie with low expectations, especially since this genre isn't typically Sydney Sweeney's forte. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct. This film falls into the all-too-familiar trap of Hollywood's attempts at "woke" storytelling, completely missing the mark. Despite being labeled as a romantic comedy, the issues run deeper than just genre.

Recent revelations about Disney's "inclusion standards" shed light on the underlying problem. It seems like if this film had been crafted without the pressure of conforming to these standards, both Sydney and her co-star could have had a stronger script and character development to work with. Instead, we're left with a cringe-worthy mess.

Sydney should stick to roles like those in "Nocturne" (2020) and "The White Lotus" (Season 1), where her talents truly shine. Otherwise, she risks being pigeonholed into roles that rely solely on physical appearance rather than her acting prowess. She's capable of so much more.
