I love everything about this already! The young actor is adorable and has all the so well known Sheldon quirks! I love that Jim Parsons is doing te narration! I can't wait for more episodes!!
Not the best thing I have ever seen but it's cute and likeable. I don't think Jim Parsons doing narration is too necessary though. The kid is charming without Parsons explaining why he's doing this or that.
better then i expected, but then ... i did have super low expectations :)
I think I'm gonna love this show. Shellie's the cutest, all the kids are great actors and (to my untrained, foreigner ear) they all actually sound like they're from the south!
Amazing pilot. Can't wait to see more.
Couldn't help singing the whoo-hoo part when Missy mentioned Duck Tales LOL
I like this show actually - i never watched the Big Bang theory cause it was so horrible and misogynistic, but this seems very fun - im glad to see sheldon portrayed as properly autistic
I like how they’re not notoriously making fun of Sheldon in this series, but rather pull the viewer over on his side.
*Trivias.*
+Zoe Perry is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf in The Big Bang Theory (2007). This is the second time she has played a younger version of one of her mother's characters. The first time was when she played a younger version of her mother's character in Roseanne (1988).
+At the end of the episode, Sheldon (Iain Armitage) comments he finds it comforting that in a world of uncertainty, Radio Shack will be there forever. In March 2017 Radio Shack declared bankruptcy and closed nearly all its stores.
+The number on the school bus behind young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) when he first goes to school is 1138, maybe a reference to THX 1138, written and directed by George Lucas of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) fame.
+The father (Lance Barber) in Young Sheldon is also the childhood bully of Leonard in The Big Bang Theory (2007) in Season 5 ep 11, The Big Bang Theory: The Speckerman Recurrence (2011).
+This episode explains why Sheldon (Jim Parsons) doesn't have a Texas drawl. In narration, he explains that he switched to a mid-Atlantic accent because "Nobel prize winners ought not be ordering tater tots.."
+The episode is set at the beginning of the 1989-90 school year and includes a cameo appearance of Bob Newhart reprising his role as "Professor Proton." 1989-90 was also the last season of Newhart, culminating with the discovery the entire show was a dream.
+Melissa Tang, who plays Ms. Fenley, also played Mandy Chow on The Big Bang Theory (2007), the girl Leonard (Johnny Galecki) kissed on the boat.
+The song playing over football practice is Nothin' But A Good Time by Poison.
+This episode premiered just one day after the 10th anniversary of its parent series The Big Bang Theory (2007).
+This episode contains the first screen appearances of Sheldon's father, George Sr. (Lance Barber) and his older brother George Jr, played by Montana Jordan.
+This episode was ranked #4 for the week ending 1 October 2017.
+This episode was viewed by 17.21 million people and had a rating of 3.8 (adults 18-49). The total number of viewers (including DVR users) was 22.41 million.
+This episode went to air as a special preview of the series immediately after the season 11 premiere episode of The Big Bang Theory (2007), The Big Bang Theory: The Proposal Proposal (2017).
+The house Sheldon (Iain Armitage) lives in is not same one shown in The Big Bang Theory (2007) when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) visits his mother in episode 7.18, The Big Bang Theory: The Mommy Observation (2014).
+Twins Sheldon (Young Sheldon (2017)) & Missy (Raegan Revord) are shown to share a bedroom, however in The Big Bang Theory (2007) episode 7.18, The Big Bang Theory: The Mommy Observation (2014). Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) childhood bedroom is shown having only one twin bed.
+Aired on the same day as the Season 11 premiere of The Big Bang Theory (2007).
+This episode aired in Canada on September 25, 2017.
+Even though there was only one week between the showing of the Pilot and the next episode, there was plenty of time for Sheldon's front teeth to grow and get straightened.
*Great Start To A Great Story.*
He's a great child actor. I truly believe that he is smarter than everyone. Love the mom. She accepts who Sheldon is and is unapologetic. Puberty and testicle talk in church perfectly sets up the humor of this show. It's got an edge! My favorite part is Everyone thinks he's a know it all but he's misunderstood. I'm very relatable.
My score: A perfect 10/10,
I think this was an adorable way to show Sheldon on his earlier years but I don't see this as a hit show.
It doesn't feel like is going to last long. Sorry.
Ok. I wouldn't say I loved it, but as a pilot, it worked for me.
Generic, obvious. Sometimes heartfelt, sometimes amusing.
I'm not interested in family sitcoms, but I'm willing to give this one a try for a while because of its tenuous connection to The Big Bang Theory. It plays like The Goldbergs or The Wonder Years. This episode didn't make me a fan. Hopefully, the next one will.
Zoe Perry was the best thing about it.
6/10
As of watching this, I haven't watched TBBT, I know a few things about it like everyone else who hasn't watched it, and I find this show very comforting.
Since I never liked TBBT, I had such poor expectations about this show but after watching the pilot, i gotta say I'm thrilled and look forward to watch next eps! Go Sheldon!
On paper this seemed like a good idea: a throwback sitcom based on one of the most iconic characters of the last 15 years.
The problem is that all of Jim Parsons' skill gets lost when it is a different actor reading his words. Things get worse when you give us a Goldbergs rip-off without even trying to throw some jokes in.
It didn't have any heart or emotional moments despite there being opportunities to introduce that tone such as the father's firing, the mother's struggles or the sibling rivalry.
I am sure the ratings will be strong, but the episode wasn't.
Must be my age but i dont like this at all. Maybe if they focused around the age of 16+.... but at that age...it looks like a children's show. I wont say its bad.... because i dont like it. Maybe I'll watch 2 more episodes to see if i can relate but... slim chances
Just checking this out since I'm a long time TBBT fan, it's not tragically bad as one would expect but it didn't really stand out to make me a regular viewer.
This show surprised me. I was expecting more Big Bang Theory but it is much different. While it has plenty of elements to make it feel familiar it strangely reminded me more of the wonder years I guess its the style of an older version of the character narrating? ie Kevin Arnold telling his story, Sheldon telling his story.
There feels to be some similar feeling with the two fathers from the different shows as well.
I say this not as any form of criticism, as I was a huge fan of the wonder years, and I enjoyed the first episode of Young Sheldon as well. Though I fear I am showing my age a little and a lot of people will not see the similarities.

Based on the pilot, Young Sheldon is a simple show about a complicated boy. Its theme is very different from The Big Bang Theory, I would hardly call it a comedy. It's more of a cute family-friendly spinoff.
I was very pleased with the casting and acting of all the main characters, nothing to complain there, but it's hard for me to find a reason to continue watching the show. It's just not very engaging.
