Um, WHAT!?
The final effect is wonderfully gross though.
Something I was really struck by this episode is Laszlo and his slow, organic character development. He's gone from being a selfish prat to the character with the most human connections. From Sean to the volleyball team to Colin Robinson. He's had this warped sense of loyalty and affection that's made him really endearing without losing his edge and hilarity. And it's what makes the big twist of this episode work.
Would bet (hope) that it's a gigantic red herring, but still damn, I didn't see that one coming.
[7.4/10] So for starters, I love the twist here. The reveal that Lazlo knew Colin Robinson’s death was coming and so tried to show him a good time is strangely sweet, in a way What We Do in the Shadows occasionally dips into. I thought Lazlo’s efforts to celebrate Colin Robinosn’s 100th birthday was just a sign of their growing friendship. (And honestly, his speech was pretty darned heartwarming.) But this is the rare twist that makes something sweeter, with Lazlo going above and beyond to let Colin Robinson really live with his last bit of time on Earth.
I’m not positive they’re going to stick with it, but I like everyone’s reactions to Colin’s impending demise as well. The awkwardness, the disbelief, the hollow goo filled head are all top notch. Colin’s own reaction is a particular treat. I could do without the continuing fart jokes (though Gullermo and Lazlo’s interactions of it were a laugh), but Colin constantly referring to his “funny tummy” and repeating banal catchphrases was a nice way to let him die the way he lived.
The rest of the episode has an amusing “the boss is coming to dinner’ quality to it. There’s good comedy to be had from the vamps having to entertain some luminaries from the International Vampiric Council at the same time Nandor has decided to subject himself to super sleep. The efforts tso convince the visitors that Nadja killed Nndor in a power grab, while Guillermo constantly interrupts his master’s slumber for reasons both personal and practical, makes for a good setup.
The guest stars are good, with some of the weird twists and quirks that make the oddballs who populate this show memorable. The “analysis” of Nandor’s penis goes a little too far, but it’s fine. On the whole, the rest of the team scrambling to fool/entertain their superiors works.
Overall, this episode was pretty weird, even by this show’s standards, but the weirdness largely worked for me. Despite a bit of shagginess, the twist, super sleep interruptions, and visiting potentates all made for good material.
The funniest episode of the season by far.
About that ending, that character ain’t going nowhere. If they were really going to do it it would have been in the finale.
'Why do you have such a cock up for Colin Robinson's birthday?'
100% the best episode of the season. Overall the drop in quality was very noticeable, and this was finally the episode where it felt like the good old times.

R.I.P. Colin Robinson... that death was downright hilarious.
