Season 3 has been great so far, but this episode was off the charts. There's so much going on here, so many little quotable moments and hilariously unforeseen turns of events, and every character gets their moment to shine.
Their money-winning plan ends up in such extreme place, wasn't expecting that lmao.
'A fucking sparrow! The lamest of all birds.'
What We Do in the Shadows has always been more fun than funny to me. Even when this new season hasn't had me laughing, it is definitely more tight in the writing than previous seasons. This was the highest point of it. It even turned out like Oceans Eleven.
I just freaking love this show!

[7.4/10] I’m conflicted about this episode. It’s good! But it could have been great. The setup here was superb, with the Vamps going to Atlantic City as part of their neighbors’ vow renewal. The twist that housekeeping took their sacred homeland dirt, the source of their powers, escalates things nicely. And the vamps having to plod around with their powers sapped while Guillermmo flies around the world to get more dirt has plenty of potential too.
It’s just too much for a twenty-two minute episode. We don’t get enough of any one thing, and none of the stories has time to breathe. “Casino” still has some good laughs. I love Nandor getting obsessed with The Big Bang theory via a slot machine, Nadja trying to rekindle a friendship with the Rat Pack via their cheap Atlantic City impersonators, and Colin Robinson watching dull in-room information channels. There’s even some heart with Lazlo feeling legitimate attachment to his friend Johnny and not wanting to take advantage of their friendship even when he needs wads of cash.
But god, I wanted more of this stuff. We barely got to see the antics in Atlantic City. We only got to see a little of Nandor’s existential crisis or the vampires interacting with their...more traditionalLong Island neighbors. And Guillermo going on a super rapid world tour could have been an episode all its own. Plus, the team’s ploy to use the well-seeded boxing match to win enough money to make Johnny whole was a fun Oceans 11 homage.
I just wish the episode expanded or stretched itself over two parts to give all these fun ideas enough time and space to really flourish. Still, what we got was still good, and leaving your audience wanting more is almost never a bad tack.
