Aww, snap twice like in the Addams Family theme song. Would have been great to hear a couple of notes of it during the discovery!
Wednesdays drive for the humiliation of Bianca is great. I love to see a bully put in their place especially after that fencing incident.
A little better, I just can't shake the feeling that something is missing. I agree with the other comments, this does feel like a Harry Potter TV show of sorts, with a little too much relationship drama that I'm sure is driving certain Twitter and Tumblr feeds wild. I'll plod on slowly, but binge-worthy this is not.
I'm guessing barista guy's the monster?
Pop culture note: Episode title is a reference to "One" (is the loneliest number) by Harry Nilsson. Filter also did a banging cover on The X-Files Soundtrack.
Wednesday (to Thing): Keep an eye on Rowan. Don't let your fingers out of his sight.
This one hits the ground running. Emma Myers is becoming a delight as the sprite-like foil to Wednesday's cloud of doom. The directing still needs some polishing, but I really like the potential in this dynamic.
If that's Joy Sunday singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy", then her voice is amazing, and I'd definitely listen to the full version of her cover of Bobby McFerrin's classic.
,,Welcome to the Nevermore High Hummers!"
Ummm XD That had to be intentional.
There are a few points in this episode where it seems like Jenna Ortega is letting a little more personality slip through into her performance, and Burton really needs to let her out. The unlikable goth caricature is limiting, and Jenny's trying to give her just a little more life, and she needs to be let out. The supergirl thing is also getting to be too much. We need to see her screw up and swallow her pride more often. This episode has shown areas she needs to grow socially, and the scenes with Thing continue to be the golden core of the show, but she can't just be shooting apples mid air every episode.
Hunter Doohan's Tyler is super likeable, as is her other school romance setup, Xavier. As long as they give Joy Sunday enough material to flesh out Bianca then the show can keep a compelling roster of peers.
The boat race scene is reminiscent of the Wednesday at summer camp in the classic films, along with a little bit of Burton's Catwoman from Batman Returns. Perhaps a cute self-reference, but I like it.
The closing theme is just fantastic.
I really like the pace of the show. There is enough happening while still keeping a sense of mystery. I do feel like that plant lady is shady as F and I'm keeping my eyes on her!
I'm guessing we're getting flashbacks or timetravel at some point... otherwise why use different actors in the alumni photos? Zeta-Jones has been an actress since her teens, easily Photoshopped old publicity photos would have worked...
Woe woe woe your boat (or canoe) very aggressively and belligerently down the stream (or lake), un-merrily, savagely, combatively, with hostility, nightmares are so much better than dreams (especially if you inflict them on others).
Wednesday's visions plague and swarm, uncertain what they'll reveal or misinform, especially now that Rowan has miraculously reappeared, although it's quite a shallow presentation, with a transformative veneer; the Poe Cup race seeks to add to the distraction, with a Merman tilting scales, through a reflective buoyed refraction, while conundrums are un-riddled making way for exploration, and the darkness doth descend, with very little exclamation.
Nope, I have to stop here. I wanted to like this but nothing interesting happens.
There are just enough nods to classic Addams lore to keep me excited. It feels like a cross between the films and Riverdale, with just a dash of Harry Potter thrown in.
In its second outing Wednesday continues to be enjoyable, although an out-of-place scene and a disappointingly uninspiring boating scene makes the show slightly less interesting this time around, and Wednesday's character beginning to crack this early in the series undermines her earlier earnestness, and also makes me wonder how much breathing room they plan to give her for character growth in the future.
The show is really binge-worthy, even though there are some call-backs to Harry Potter, it's really enjoyable and I can't stop watching, Wednesday is a great character and her growing friendship with her roomate Enid which is a total contrast to her is also well-written. I really rooted for the girls during the Poe Cup and it was quite an exciting scene. The show is perfect light-weight entertainment so far.
This is totalGen-Z material. Quick, with plot holes, kind of naive. It is entertaining and a small season, so I'll keep watching till the end.
6 but 7 cuz it gives me harry Potter vibes
The pace wasn’t that great in this one
Also… diversity is practically non existent in this show :/
Best bit? The high pitched ‘singing’ - my dog went mad.
