In all honesty Van Helsing's season 5 was extremely mediocre. From start to finish I was always disappointed in it, nothing ever happened that kept me interested enough to actually want to continue watching the show. It ended up getting to the point where I just stopped watching the last few episodes and just waited for the entire show to be available on Netflix to watch it all.
Once again Vanessa was not to be seen throughout this season, in a sense it was good because Jack was now the "main" character and Vanessa was always a headache but that just meant one thing, she'd return at the end and be the superhero which not only is it undeserved it is such a ridiculous cliche and it was annoyingly cringe.
At the beginning of the season Jack was in the past dealing with The Dark One as she originally took control. This was a decent watch, Jack carried the show fairly well and seeing how Dracula came to be added some good lore into the show. I also like how when Jack was changing the past it actually had direct consequences in the future, that was some smart plot writing.
When it went back to the modern day with the band back together this is where the season went back to being awful. Everything felt mediocre and just boring. There wasn't anything stand out until the finale and one other scene which I'll get into next. As much as I love the original gang they were just so boring and it seemed like the entire cast was just unmotivated and couldn't be bothered to act.
One of the 2 stand out parts of the season was Julius's death. Julius was one of my favourite characters in the entire show from start to finish. I loved him as a Vampire and I loved him as a human, watching him sacrifice himself was so heartbreaking, I'm starting to get really irritated seeing Aleks Paunovic's characters dying in shows because he is such a good character!
The finale was a decent episode for a lackluster season. I really enjoyed the action, seeing Dracula regain her power and use it to turn all the humans into Vampires in the surrounding vicinity was incredible. I love it when the gang band together and fight together, it's always hyped. I was quite disappointed in the way Dracula was defeated unfortunately. Watching Vanessa return for a few episodes and then get the glory at the end was extremely annoying, she didn't deserve to be the one to defeat Dracula, I feel like the death should have been more explosive and Vanessa should have died and Jack should have been the one to kill Dracula with her sister by her side - unfortunately Vanessa gets her way all of the time.
Overall the season was quite... meh. I really wish they did a lot better but unfortunately there's not much they can do now. It was an okay ending for a good show.
Wasn’t a huge fan of this show but stuck with it until the end and I was really impressed with the final season wish the rest was like this season it could of been a way better show.
