The one long continuous tracking shot at the end of the episode was fucking amazing!!! Watch the episode for that shot, seriously omg
I'm extremely hesitant about oners because I usually think they just negate a lot of the purpose of the cinematic tradition and take away a lot of what is the most unique artisitic tradition of the medium: editing. So when I see films that are shot in one continuous take, I'm usually very mixed about them. I really like Birdman for how it imitates psyche, but I don't really care for 1917 because I don't really feel like it earns the format.
One-takes can function extremely well when used carefully and deliberately. True Detective's infamous oner in this episode is the best instance I've ever seen because it doesn't feel like it's being shot that way just because. It's shot that way because it ramps up tension organically and having the scene take place fluidly makes it all feel all that more gripping. Tremendous.
i see the hype for this episode, holy shit. that tracking shot at the end is crazy

Wow. This episode was insane. The filming of the last entire scene was perfect in itself.
