Not sure how much more perfect a TV series can be. First season is outstanding.
+Great acting
+Great cinematography
+Great directing
+Best intro ever!
-It just needed a better plot to be the greatest season of all the time
9.5/10
People talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and many other shows as being the greatest ever, that may be, but season 1 of True Detective is the greatest season of televison ever made.
The best single television season ever created, could have been the best tv show ever created if they stopped at season 1.
What a performance from Matthew McConaughey super acting right there !! For the first season i think this is the Best detective show the details everything 10/10
It legitimately does not get better than True Detective Season 1 for me. Literal perfection.
I needed this rewatch to gaze back into the abyss. And it gazes back.
I had heard a lot of very good things about this show, and finally, I decided to give it a go. I will say, it's certainly worth watching, and the performances are downright amazing. However, I didn't find it to be as amazing as many others had told me it was. There were a couple of episodes that gripped me, but overall, I didn't find the actual plot to be all that great, and that was a bit of a let down for me. As I said, the performances were amazing, and the show is worth watching for those alone. But I struggle to give this season more than maybe an 8-8.5 overall. If we were going by acting alone, it would be an easy 10/10. But for me, the actual plot wasn't amazing, although it certainly wasn't bad. So yeah, solid 8 or 8.5/10.
I've heard a lot of bad things about season 2, but Trakt comments seem to be a mixed bag. I'm intrigued to see what's going on there.
It has been converted on one of my favorites. Totally recommended. Excellents actors.
From the IMDb trivia:
According to Nic Pizzolatto, all of the nude scenes in season one were pay cable mandated and that he would have been happy with no nudity.
This was the finest writing for television since The Twilight Zone created by Rod Serling. Nic Pizzolatto generated a masterpiece of American television with this season of True Detective.
No other gun-wielding duo/squad can ever dethrone Rust & Marty from my heart. Absolutely no one.
This show is never gonna be the same for me without them. :broken_heart:
The script is outstanding, the cast is spectacular, the atmosphere is captivating and the scenery is breathtaking.
This is perfection and I can only feel sadness as there will never be anything better.
HBO always makes the best TV intros I've seen and this is no different.
This show in my opinion is the best TV show that I've seen since Breaking Bad. I mean watching True Detective was like watching the movie Seven, Zodiac and Silence of The Lambs all in one.
My favorite character in this show and of all time has to be Rust Cohle played Matthew McConaughey. His Character was just like me in real life, like he makes deep Quotes and he sees the world in a different and deep way that nobody could think of, just like me. Woody Harrelson and the other cast in the show did a fantastic job as well.
At times the character's in the show didn't feel like TV character's, they act and react like normal people, because some TV shows the character's are normally bland or unrealistic. The writing in this show is some of the best writing I've seen since Breaking Bad and the TV show Sherlock. I tried to find some things that I didn't like in the show and I got to be honest I couldn't find any.
Just watched again after a few years and it still stands as one of the best seasons of TV show in recent memory.
Season 1 was great, right up until the last 20 minutes of the last episode. The rhetoric bergen the two main characters at the very end seemed useless, just added to make up the time slot because the story was over. Could've dragged out the hunt scene a little longer instead.
Still amazing acting and directing. 9.5/10
First season of this show is a top 5 season oat
This was, without a doubt, the best writing for television since The Twilight Zone series created by Rod Serling. Nic Pizzolatto created a masterpiece of American television with this season.
People talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and many other shows as being the greatest ever, that may be, but as a standalone season, True Detective season 1 is the greatest season of televison ever made.
