Titans

Season 2

What a waste, so much of the season is repeated character growth and overly dramatic nonsense that all the potential was wasted. Clearly the writers didn't know what to do with a large cast. The underutilization of Slade and his daughter, Cadmus should have been saved for the third season. Gar and Rachel could have used more screen time and growth but were pushed for less interesting storylines like Dove and Hawk which felt like filler. Also what a joke of a way to finish Donna, just rubbing salt in our wounds at that point, just to give Rachel somewhere to gain more power offscreen. Very messy all around and a chore to watch at times.

This season started being decent, a breath of fresh air and freedom compared to the first season (or maybe I'm being too generous), then got progressively worse. I think the writers got way ahead of themselves thinking that they could manage with several more characters and storylines than with the first season and failed miserably.

This season started okay, but it rapidly went downhill from there. At times it was a free for all pity party and other times it was really hard to get through the episode.

I had hopes that Titans was going to be must see viewing, but I only watched the rest of this season to mark it off my watch list and we were on lockdown so I had time up my sleeve.
Not my most liked season.

I really want to like it but this show is such a mess. I mean what's the story here?
I hope they change the writers and producers.
The pacing/editing is SO. BAD. Sound and lighting makes it hard not to fall asleep. (Why is Dawn always fking whispering? Could you at least articulate? Ugh.)
It truly pains me to see so much potential get wasted :pensive:

FIRST THOUGHTS:
There’s a lot that I really like about the second season of this show, and I think the overall story improves upon the first season, but there are some major flaws as well. I have serious issues with the rewrite of the narrative (ignoring major character beats and plot points) at the beginning of the season because it’s more convenient for the direction they want to take the series. The climaxes of both major narratives (the cliffhanger of season one and the narrative of season two) are anticlimactic and end up wasting much of the supporting cast. And characters behave in ways that are wholly unbelievable just so the writers can get us to the next plot point. That said, there is a more coherent story this season that is, on the whole, more compelling, and I appreciated the exploration of guilt and trauma - as shallowly as it’s all handled. It isn’t a masterpiece, but it’s fun.

The first season was amazing - it was, with few changes, an amazing season. An Origin story and introduction to characters.

Season 2 looked, with the previews, to even better - we see the Titans of old (Robin, Aqualad, Hawk & Dove, Wonder Girl and even Jericho). And they were there - and they did a great job. Even Esai Morales as Slade Wilson worked for me.
But then they threw Iain Glen in as Bruce Wayne. WHAT?!?!? That is NOT how I pictured Bruce Wayne. At least not the Bruce Wayne that is still an active Batman. Bruce Wayne has been good looking. They did a great job in the movies - someone who, even pushing 50, looked like they were still in the prime of their life. But this version of Bruce Wayne - nope. No. He looks like he would get a few licks in a pub fight with some drunks but taking on people like Joker, Clayface, Killer Croc, or Bane....
WRONG.
I will give him one bit of kudo - he did the Batusi at one point in an episode. Nice little bit of retro throw back.

The first season was rough. The second got better. More like what the Titans should be like. Just needs to get more of the Teen Titans mojo into it.

Overall, I liked this season way better than the first. The characters we already knew felt a little more palpable and some of the new ones got a decent amount of backstory. My main point of contention is that - again - it felt like the story was planned to spread across more episodes and it ended up being arbitrarily crunched at some points.
