Hitting all the tropes and clichés with intent. Mostly from Amy Adams' 'Woman in the Window'.
Not only is being meta about it all though it's genuinely adding some real mystery and sadness too. What is with the guy and the mailbox!! Gave me Truman Show vibes but nothing else did.
P.S. New neighbour looks like a poor man's Andrew Scott.
A really interesting first episode and I really love to see Kristen Bell in such a different role.
This parody of psychological thrillers uses a lot of the tropes of the genre, but that alone does not make an interesting show. I'm not sure that it works as a comedy, especially with the serious tone.
think of it as a spoof and that will save you from disappointment in episode 8

As a member of the Kristen Bell Appreciation Society (totally a real thing and not something I just made up, just please don't Google it up), I was already on board with this. Then I saw Michael Ealy was also part of this show. In terms of cast, it was only getting better!
As for the premiere itself, it was a very heartbreaking and heartwarming episode, at the same time, in a very weird but lovely, balanced way. Everything just felt so wholesome. It fools you into thinking it's a romantic show (at least I hope it is what this first episode was unintentionally trying to do), but I'm sure its creepier side will crawl in starting next episode. It's tagged as "comedy", but that was a characteristic that was very light on this particular episode. I find Kristen Bell to be very good at light, sarcastic, smart comedy (The Good Place definitely proved that), so I'm sure the comedic side of the show will bloom into a beautiful thing in the following episodes.
I think I read elsewhere that this show is supposed to take inspiration from the movie The Woman in the Window. I cannot say for sure, but there are definitely similarities between them. And that's why I'm hoping things will begin to get weird and creepy very soon. Which means dark humour will most likely ensue (this is supposed to be a comedy, right?) — absolutely perfect!
For now, I'm just happy to see Kristen Bell on the small screen, again, in what is shaping up to be an intriguing Netflix series.
