S2 was definitely better than S1. The focus away from the teenage actors to more seasoned actors has definitely helped with that. the S1 Matt recasting incident continues to play out in S2 and there are some deviations from the book. But then again there are quite a few deviations and that is understandable given that the medium is different and the way the story is told needs to be changed accordingly. Finale was definitely better than S1
This second season is a measurable improvement on the first in every conceivable way and has certainly restored my faith in the show. Still, it's undoubtedly suffering from some missteps holding it back as an adaptation.
Notably, its biggest mistake this season is spending too much time on the wrong areas. When taking a step back and looking at the arcs of this season on their own, it's easy to see what they were trying to achieve (and succeeded at, nonetheless). It's excellent development & fantastic character-building for the characters in the spotlight, but, as an adaptation, it's leaving other characters by the wayside, leaving some characters feeling useless, only further exacerbated by some minor pacing issues still hanging around. I'm not overly concerned - with these two initial seasons out of the way, there's a whole load of setup out of the way, and things should continue to run more concurrently with the book story moving forward. However, these misaligned focuses still held this season from achieving greatness in its current strides.
What I watched on screen was still really good, but the extra time spent on some things, and not others, leaves me wanting more. And that's, essentially, the crux of my issues (and if I'm being honest, they're mostly just nitpicks). I just want more. Eight episodes is not enough. It was still an enjoyable season to watch - there are plenty of fantastic sequences, and, for the most part, just about every character is knocking their role out of the park. But it just needs...more.
Awesome final episode, brought thinks together nicely. :thumbsup_tone1: All set for the next season. :thumbsup_tone1: This season (2) was better than season 1,so let's see if season 3 can top this. :thumbsup_tone1:
I liked this season because it's the season where they were all told what to do and they all said "screw this". Perrin was told to stay with the pack and what his pack is supposed to be and he went like "nah" but still managed to be a cinnamol roll in the process; Egwene is basically done with all the shit and she's gonna do her own way now, she proved that she has the will and the strength to survive and she will; Mat was told what he is supposed to be and how his fate is supposed to unfold and even before knowing the truth about himself he's like "Fuck this, I'm gonna do my thing" and he proved his worth and wit with the dagger. Nynaeve and Rand to me are the weakest characters this season (I'm not finding their growth that compelling tbh), but still they too refused to adhere to their role - the Aes Sedai who puts her duty above everything and the weapon with no will or agency - and made their own choices, they know their part in the wheel but they're still willing to have their own agency, which is underlined by Ishamael when he said: "She was right. You are like Lews, but different too".
I think Ishamael grew to respect them a little, while he watches them struggling to gain their own independence in the wheel, though he still believes all of it useless: "We keep living these lives over and over".
So glad to see this show finding its feet. The second half of the season was stronger and the final episode had me cheering. Sure, it's not the books, and I'm having fun seeing the creative interpretation.
I'm really glad I watched this and didn't listen to the book purists that criticise everything. If it were up to them, we'd never get good tv. As an avid book reader myself, I'm always glad when something makes it to the screen, since I see it as a retelling of a story I loved while reading.
This season was beyond expectation, they really stepped it up and it showed. I loved it and will be back for season 3. This can only get better from here I hope.
The show isn't engaging and I don't care for the characters.
Dropped Season 2 after episode 2.
A great season and definitely better than the first season. Everyone is on their own for much of the season and I loved watching each of their journeys. Egwane's character arc was epic. The pacing was pretty solid throughout but did feel a bit rushed toward the end of the season. I wish this was 10 episodes instead of 8 so we had more time to digest everything that happened at the end. I do have to say that each episode ended on a cliffhanger that made you immediately want to watch the next episode. I practically binged the whole season in one sitting.
I found the first half of season challenging, slow paced and not too much of interest a bit confusing.
It does pick up for second half and ends quite well.
Feel it suffers for viewers not familiar with book as skips over minor characters and background information very quickly
I feel like this season is so all over the place. As it always is when you have many characters and everyone is elsewhere. Idk if the book goes the same but this season lacked in action and in creating anticipation. Every episode gives only a snippet in each journey which i forget in a moment. Maybe if this time the season had more episodes they could give characters longer scenes? I felt like those 7 eps for now had action of maybe two and were already before the finale and I'm like... meh? At least i started liking Egwene for a bit but what does it say about a character that she's likable only when being a slave/prisoner?
I REALLY would like to read the books but I could never get through Rand and Mat stuff X.X they're the worst

This season has surpassed my expectations in everything, not only is it a major step up from the previous season it's filled with a plenty of easter eggs for someone who read the books!
