Great first episode. This feels much more like a Star Wars movie than the current trilogy.
easily the best thing SW I've seen since the original trilogy. The pilot was able to pull me and as the ep went along I found myself doing something I haven't done in quite some time, being thrilled with the SW universe
Well acted, some of the humor in the beginning felt forced, but overall an extremely solid pilot episode. One that made me very hungry for more. It's worth the price of #DisneyPlus in and off itself.
It looks great, better than anything on the recent trilogy. The lore is building up and the acting is on the dot. My only problem is the pacing and that the damn episode is too short. I was expecting a 1 hour show, but this is shorter even than network television prime time shows.
I´m not a big Star Wars fan, in fact, i only saw 2 movies, part IV and V. But this is really good and has an original story to tell, far away from the Skywalkers. I think the fact Mando is a misterious and not talkative character, helps a lot. A the same time the show has an interesting modern style that works really well. At some point i even forgot it was a disney show
Well, it had a great look and lots of action and shootings but the plot in itself was totally irrelevant. I don't see why I should care about the characters or anything that's happening in this... OMG IT'S BABY YODA!!!
Went into it expecting it to be pretty lame. Ended up loving it. This episode was 100 times better than The Last Jedi. Loved the big reveal at the end.
Feels more like old school Star Wars, which is definitely a good thing. I also like the Sci-Fi Western feel to it. That I wish the new movies had.
The choreography of the final battle alone shows how little the so called "story group" knows about anything.
Rough tonal shifts, story and dialogue. This episode was dumb but kinda fun and a decent start to the show.
I liked the pilot. I know nothing of the Mandalorians though.
A fine start. Super cool music as expected. Felt a little more obvious and shallow than I anticipated, but hey it's only the beginning right?
As I was watching, I just kept saying to myself over and over “THIS IS SO COOL”
I have read some more about Star Wars universe before watching this, but the show still seems quite mysterious and it is like entering a totally new territory, where I can discover something totally new every moment. Maybe this is what makes it quite interesting. I would probably never get all the allusions SW fans understand, but the screening was an enjoyable experience. The main protagonist is just as mysterious as the atmosphere of the entire show as he does not reveal his face and his identity and is a man of a few words. I have read in some reviews that he is a kind of Star Wars witcher and there are indeed certain parallels, though he does not hunt monsters like Geralt did. However, he is also a good fighter like the witcher, a professional in his freelance job, and has similar inclinations to not speaking much, he just concentrates on the job and does not engage in anything that is not necessary. The culture of Mandalorians also seemed interesting, as well as the fantastic creatures inhabiting the world. The big waking fish used for steeds looked hilarious. I also enjoyed the music, which adds to the secretive nature of the episode. Anyway, I liked it and it turns out it it much harder to write about something you enjoyed than criticise something you are disappointed with.
The pilot is perfect it doesn't say too much but enough to know what's going one can't wait for more!!
Mediocre start to a series with great and bad episodes. The effects are a little shaky in this pilot, and the cinematography basic, but it's already clear in the first episode that the creators actually care about the lore and setting of Star Wars, which is far more than can be said for any of the Disney films, with the exception of Gareth Edwards and Rogue One and however much we got to see of his vision in that.
Stop watching anything Star Wars after the prequels, and then the 'woke' rubbish that came after. The Mandalorian really surprised me and I'm hooked, well done Disney! Can't believe I just said that.
It's soooooo good. I feel like I'm watching the original trilogy again. Absolutely nailed it mr favreau. ty
Me: Please don't be a baby Hutt, please don't be a baby Hutt...
Also me: Well okay.
Despite some very minor issues with its tone, this is very good.
However, since this episode mostly consists of a lot of world building, I’m not going to extensively review it.
We still need to get a true sense of the story and characters after all.
I don’t think it’s too early to say that this show is going to be revolutionary for tv in terms of scope, cinematography and CGI.
The score is really well done too, and I applaud the fact that the pacing is tight; the episode isn’t too long or drawn out (this could of course be a budget constraint), which is something that the vast majority of Netflix shows struggle with.
If I should compare it to anything else, the closest thing that comes to mind is Firefly, especially in terms of tone.
I just hope that over the next few episodes the story and characters will become as strong as they were on Firefly.
No wonder they didn't send out a screener, because that cliffhanger! Anyway, it feels like the pressure of being the showcase Disney+ series has them makes it as fast and eye-catching as possible to hook audience in, without much depth to the world or characters yet. But it looks great, has fun action (I'm such an easy target but that robot is delightful), and its casual (and expensive) word-building is lively and promising enough. Cautiously intrigued.
I really enjoyed this. Pascal does a great job beneath the mask and makes an impression with body language and demeanor that deserve a gold star. Dave Filoni knows Star Wars to the core, and it shows in how he frames scenes and stages the action. The texture and tone are so damn good, with everything having a lived-in feel and appropriately spaghetti western vibe. And there's a "show don't tell" quality to this pilot, letting the audience get a feel for the world and the story without holding the viewer's hand, that I really appreciate.
I particularly like that in how the show establishes The Mandalorian himself. The things we learn about him here: that he was a "foundling," that he has an instinctive dislike for droids, that he is almost desultorily effective at his job, make him an interesting protagonist to follow. And the little touches for diehard fans, like references to Life Day, the tuning fork gun, and Salacious Crumb on a spit roast, all really pleased me.
Overall, this is a great start to the new series, and one that's promising for Lucasfilm's first venture into live action television.
My anticipation for this was off the charts. Given my high expectations, its only natural that I would end up being a little underwhelmed by this premiere episode. Still, overall I really liked it.
The biggest compliment I can give it is that it feels like Star Wars. It fits in very nicely with the aesthetic set up by the original trilogy, while managing to also make things a bit seedier. The lighting and colour palette is lovely, the set design is incredible and I absolutely love the use of practical effects alongside CGI. There's a bold use of music which doesn't entirely match what you would expect from Star Wars, but I found it more intriguing than off putting.
That's all important, but the storytelling is the main thing that needs to work. This first episode came across as a little bit restrained in that respect. Most of the first half felt like it was playing it safe and was ticking off the thing that make you think 1) Star Wars, and 2) a western. It was hard to get any reading on our main character since he barely spoke two words and we can't see his face.
That began to change around the halfway point where the story kicked in with a bit more force and there was a hint at both character development and world building. The Mandalorian culture is a complex one that has been explored (perhaps too much) in both The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. This managed to tease enough to make me want to know more. The metal and the armour is a cool angle to approach thing from and the hints of a painful backstory for our main character beg for more detail. I hope he gets a name. In fact, the lack of names for characters, locations and things in this episode was one of the biggest frustrations for me, leading me to explore Wookieepedia for more info.
By the final 10-15 minutes of the episode I was fully in to it. The bounty hunting side of things is just plain fun. The introduction of the IG droid and his self-destruct routine was really enjoyable and the action felt very nicely choreographed. Plus, it enabled the Mandalorian himself to come more into focus. The final reveal of what they were hunting came as a big surprise and opens up a lot of questions, so right now I can't wait for episode 2!
Things I noticed:
* A mention of Life Day from the Holiday Special.
* The stormtrooper's armour didn't quite seem to fit right; wondering if that was intentional.
* The ending. That most likely wasn't baby Yoda himself, but what if there's some cloning thing going on?. At any rate, it suggests some major reveals ahead.
It looks Star Wars. It feels Star Wars. Also feels like a western and The Mandalorian himself has a certain Eastwood vibe. Of course it's to early to tell where this goes storywise. I just hope this is not turning out to be some generic show that happens to be in the SW universe. Jon Favreaus and, of course, Lucas' involvement gives me hope and the ending was exciting. But too short episode, it felt rushed.
That was pretty good. It left me with questions. Will Pedro ever take his helmet off. Is a baby Yoda called a Boda?
It's good! Probably a bit too safe when it comes to my liking (The Last Jedi and Rogue One felt like bigger risktakers and are far superior because of that), but when it comes to functional, rock solid storytelling, this has it down pat. Visuals the key here, most of the dialogue is minimal, used only for declarations and small bits of exposition. Outside of that this is a western show to a tee, fully embracing the iconography while also bringing tons of cool references for long time fans. Pascal is already great in the lead role, and most of the supporting cast is memorable too. Herzog in particular is clearly having a blast here.
The biggest issue here is easily Filoni's direction however, who is clearly a first timer. It's not bad per say, but he holds onto cuts a bit too long for my liking and his editing is choppy at points. The episode feels like a bunch of small adventures mashed together. Still, the cinematography is fantastic, and that final reveal and shot is still aces. Good stuff!
I absolutely love this show! And the expectations that the baby brings just blows my mind.
I’m very happy with this pilot. It sets up plenty of places for the story to go, it sets up a mystery within our main character, and it has me asking questions—everything a pilot should accomplish. I was excited before, and I’m thrilled now. Not that it’s a perfect episode, but it did everything I needed it to. :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:Cannot:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: wait to continue the series.
Loved it! The ending was AWESOME and makes me wish that we could binge this all in one go (I'm happy we have to pace ourselves though).
The first episode confirms that this takes place in the galaxy we know of. I love the familiar alien species we see. However I don't feel a connection to the main character yet.
OMG! The little guy is SO CUTE!!!
8/0
Great
What a solid first
episode and really kicked
things off with a bang.
Solid vfx and I'm loving
the use of practical effects.
If you are confused as we were by this episode and the jump it made from end of the previous season finale - the answers you seek are hidden deep in the steaming pile of junk called Book of Boba Fett. You should skip straight to episode 5 of that show, that's where Mando first makes an appearance, and watch only that and the following episode. Season finale includes Mando, but it doesn't do anyhing for his story.
That's your Mando season 2.5. Disney decided to hide so well in an effort to make you watch that show after they realised they got nothing compelling to do with an actual titular character.
That said, those two episodes are very good.
I'm rewatching The Mandalorian for the billionth time in prep for Season 3.
I remember trying to watch this episode on the first day of Disney Plus, and the site kept crashing. Well worth the wait. I fell in love with the story, and the characters.
I love how they kept Grogu under wraps that whole time. Amazing decision to this day. I suppose the only down side was Grogu/Baby Yoda/The Child merch took forever to be released.
I didn’t understand much but BABY YODA!
I can't believe I waited this long to watch this show. I guess I didn't want to be let down by Disney again after the mess they created with the movies. This is great. I can't wait to watch more.
Underwhelming pilot. Production “values” shine, but it “feels” like it has been assembled by “amateurs.” Lousy writing by Favreau—beginning to end (just look at the ridiculous start: “That’s me?” Duh!!!) Göransson did good in Black Panther (2018), but the musical score in here is goofy. Not even the CGI effects are outstanding (the spaceship was fantastic, but the creature animation felt clumsy). Cheers to DP Greig Fraser though. The infiltration action sequence and stand-off was unexceptional. Only the baby Yoda at the end is gonna make me return next time. Poor character introduction.
Brilliant start to the first live-action Star Wars TV show. Very high production values and good story so far.
Very very very good
I like this series
Good good good good good
It's time to see what the fuss is all about when it comes to The Mandalorian, and a more apt time could not be held; after recently watching The Rise of Skywalker and gaining the platinum trophy on Fallen Order, this felt like the next step on the Star Wars progression, and one I had hoped would leave a more satisfactory taste in my mouth; it's not that the before-mentioned entries into the fantastical universe were bad, but both left a sense of disappointment in their execution, and ultimately, did not scratch the Star Wars itch; The Mandalorian definitely scratches that itch.
The Mandalorian truly embodies the Western feeling atmosphere that smaller, more intimate portions of the universe feel like, and this works to great effect; while Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian is tough, he's immediately de-mystified as a figure, despite the continual wearing of the iconic helmet. This feels well paced within the universe, acknowledging the fall of The Empire, and having a few faint nods to the remnants of the universe and films. It's enjoyable, with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor to it, and I never found myself growing tired or restless of it.
The ending shootout doesn't do anything dramatically attention-grabbing, although the integration of a sidekick character feels aptly humorous. The ending's already been spoiled due to the cultural mythos surrounding its meme-able figure, but it's still a sight to behold, and lays out the humanist, yet also treacherous nature The Mandalorian seems destined to uphold.
The Mandalorian embodies the darker, more under-handed version of Star Wars I have been wanting to engorge myself on since Rogue One, and I'm interested to see it expand the Star Wars cannon in a way the recent trilogy has failed to do. I'm thoroughly interested in its world-building, characters, and consequences. Welcome home, Star Wars.
9 stars just for that shootout.
Great twist at the end! I think this show is gonna be great.
I've seen better YouTube shows. A good twist at the end. I'll give it a couple of more episodes. :(
The western feel. The protagonists all laid out. The story set to unfurl. And a twist to pick things up.
This episode is an introduction not to be missed.
Wow this 1st episode proved me I need to watch this show.
I've only had baby Yoda for 35 minutes, but if anything happened to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself
Great opening episode. Love the style and music. Pascal has a presence without over doing it (no 'badass' walk like some actors do).
Totally gives me Cowboy Bebop vibes.
Very promising first episode. The opening scene was impressive. Let me know they weren't going to "Disney" up the violence. Looking forward to how this plays out
Finally, a real star wars story. It was the moment after all those bad Disney movies. Everyone's going to love the last scene.
Everything I've been waiting for in Star Wars for years! Simply excellent so far. Need episode 2!
Not a Star Wars' fan, but the show is good. Apparently Disney has invested a lot in this. Basically it's like a western from the future. Liked the end scene.
This was freaking good, last scene gave me chills
Ill wait for the binge opportunity...but a 40min show? Seriously, how deflating that it's treated like a sitcom.
It's far from perfect, especially for a pilot, but this sets the Star Wars tone far better than any Disney Star Wars movie could.
Having Dave Filoni on board as the director may have helped setting this as a Star Wars cinema that actually takes place in a Star Wars universe: recognizable alien species and creatures (rodians, ugnaughts, blurrgs), languages other than English ("Basics" in universe terms), in-universe lore consistency (Beskar steel, Mandalorian culture), settings, and practical effects that makes a lot of sense for Star Wars. Those important aspects that make Star Wars universe convincing can hardly be seen in the new Star Wars trilogy or its spinoff nowadays.
That said, the pacing is a bit awkward. There is not much hook, story-wise, to make the pilot intriguing - unless you're a Star Wars fan with familiarity with the gimmicks. The action leaves more to be desired. Cinematography is quite well-done however. The ending also picks up some interesting turn, in the hopes that it will develop to a story that delves into character's motivation and personal goals (something that Solo tried but failed), just like Lucas' Star Wars that we know.
there is a fucking baby YODA!
A new beginning within the Star Wars universe that really catches the eye. Impecable cinematography (I swear this could set up a movie), beautiful visual effects and an intriguing new story. Jon Favreau really captures the essence of the original saga, opening a new chapter rich in characters, new locations and more stories to tell. Can't wait to see more of this... even when Disney+ isn't available in my location till 2020
I really dislike 70% of the score...yes we know Lucasfilm are going for the western vibe but the music was too much its more Battlestar Galactica remake sounding than Star Wars. The soundtrack really didnt have the right fit... It looks great although i felt some of the CGI was a bit dodgy. The blue alien at the beginning was rather annoying...other than that a good solid start.
Very strong pilot episode....a lot of directions it could go......I can't wait too see other S.W. characters make appearances 4 thumbs up!
Help I cant se it
"I have spoken"
ION... What a start!
(Initial Impression) Premiering this week on Disney+, this Star Wars TV series has gotten off to a good start. Great puppetry, creatures, action and CGI. It's kind of rocking the hits that make Star Wars a fan favourite. I'm confident that the writing is in good hands with Jon Favreau at the helm because George Lucas notoriously said he would like movies better if he didn't have actors. My only concern is, can we hang in there with a central character that is shrouded in armour (especially confined to a helmet)? I give this first episode an 8 (great) out of 10. [Space Western]
Ok, so I've been waiting for this show since I heard about it.
Well worth the wait!
The episodes are way shorter than I was hoping for, lets hope for multiple seasons for years to come.
The first episode was barely a taste of what's to come.
I actually like the fact that its not all out at once to binge watch. This lets me watch each episode as it comes out and savor it until the next one.
All in all, this series is shaping up into being quality entertainment that I suspect is going to bring me hours of enjoyment.
It reminds me of 'firefly' and that gritty space cowboy feel to it, set in the star wars universe.
Good job Disney - Its a huge job to live up to the "Star Wars" name, to produce a show that's worthy of carrying on the name, is a tall order. If what I have seen so far, quality acting, amazing story, attention to details, holds true for the rest of the run of this series. Its going to be a hit - and a well deserved one.
The creative team and workers deserve a round of applause for a job well done. - Keep up the good work Disney.
absolutely fraking amazing...i am immediately going to watch it again!
if the series keeps up like this i may even forgive disney for TLJ
I really enjoyed it and I liked the ending.
The Mandalorian: A Western Story :stuck_out_tongue:
Loved the ending :green_heart:
Hope the CGI, the acting and the script stay solid on the long run
Great start... The lore, the practical effects were awesome (9) but giving 8 out of 10 because of short minutage.
Really amazing! Great pace, no silly fillings, all the Star Wars ingredients; from the mood, the races, the peculiar way of filming and transitions. Humor was nice and mild, but never overdone. I can't wait for the rest! <3
It Is indeed a solid start. Lots of action and subtle worldbuilding. The cast Is packed with big names and voice cameos, lead by a charismatic (and masked) Pedro Pascal. The only “issue” i have is with Dave Filoni’s direction. There’s nothing bad per se, but i found it quite bland and uninspired, especially during some brief hand-to-hand fight scene. Other than that the technical elements were all competent and well made (the gorgeous cinematography by DOP Greg Fraiser, well paced editing during The final shootout, The jaw-dropping production design...). Hope to be more impressed by the next episode, but make no mistake, this is a very good first look to the future of Star Wars.
Dope intro scene in the cold and snow.
Guess dude in the bar hasn’t heard much of The Mandalorians. lol
lol @ giving Mythrol the option of getting brought in warm or cold.
Man the visuals are amazing!!! Can’t wait to rewatch on the big screen at home. Had to watch on phone this morning. Did not want anything spoiled. lol
Wait we not even going to find out who this dude is that gave him the secret bounty. darn guess we have to wait!!!
Hahaha I love it when Kuiil says “l have spoken.”
Whoaaaaa another species like Yoda. Awesome!!!! So that makes 3 we have seen on screen. Unless I’m forgetting.
Damn good first episode. Should only get better when new relationships form and new characters introduced. looking forward to the next 7 weeks. lol
man this watching weekly sucks!!! haha
Really solid first episode, slow paced for sure but leaves us with a really interesting and promising future for the series.
Very solid first episode. Let's hope the quality continues. Great job Disney.

Not necessarily a stellar pilot, but it is thrilling to see a television series of this magnitude set in this universe. If this show is really going to become something great along the lines of Empire Strikes Back or The Last Jedi, it will need to remember that Star Wars is able to delve deep into character motivations. If The Mandalorian expands this character more deeply, then I'm on board.
