Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have a damn good chemistry on screen. My favorite episode so far
You know an episode is good when it feels too short despite it's runtime. When that last scene happened I thought "wait, what? that's this episode?" and then it ended, lol.
Did you know diarrhea is hereditary?
I'm glad they decided to keep "No Pun Intended: Vol Too" in this adaptation. Terrible jokes but its nice to see them laugh every now and then.
Okay so it comes from the video game! I was not expecting it to be as well done as it is. I didnt check to see if all the epsoides were released before I started. There was only 3 episodes I was like 'Aahh Sh¡t.
Definitely recommend, but wait till you can binge watch it all! This show had me hooked before I was finished the 1st episode. I love these shows where the population had diminished, zombies have taken over, the save the world kinda story lines. If this is your watching desire you will love this too!
Beautifully done! I love they finally put the Ellie’s Jokes!
They've done so well with the apocalyptic landscapes.
They are beautiful.
Solid episode after last week’s artistic gay episode.
I just love to see it again on a live adaptation of that joke where Ellie jokingly sees nude content in the magazine back in their truck of Joel. It made me smile :)
Plus this episode, clearly shows that TLOU world is a gray one, nobody is innocent even Joel, for people who are not familiar with the game.
The show is terribly depressing as apparently after the apocalypse people do not help and support each other but rather hunt and kill other people, and it is not only the infected one should fear in the world of TLoU. It was not enough for people that the fungus decimated them but they have to fight among themselves, looks like they are doing everything to make the human race extinct. But if the survivors are like that, maybe it's good riddance. What I liked about the episode is that it was focused more on the relationship between Joel and Ellie, and there was more about how their bond develops and their relationship becomes more of a father-and-daughter relationship. I am not into zombie stories and in fact this is the first one I've ever watched since the reviews claimed it was more about the main characters and their relation than the actual zombies.
I really love the developing relationship between Joel and Ellie, he wants to not care about her but just can't help it. The final moment of them laughing together was great, and ends on a good cliffhanger. Next week will probably be really exciting and crazy. This show hasn't missed yet and I'm really impressed with all aspects of it, I have no doubt it will continue to deliver with each episode at this point.
Another solid episode. Can't wait for what's still to come. Soundtrack was on point this episode too.
The set is flawless, sound department continues to impress and character development is coming along nicely.
Teenagers are so bloody annoying, I remember thinking the same of Ellie in the game, so Bella is nailing that.
Knowing what we know about well, you know... I'm conflicted about the future.
Definitely worth watching.
Almost a perfect episode. Besides some small annoyances from the beginning of the episode, this is how I imagined a TV adaptation of The Last Of Us would go. You take meaningful scenes from the game and paste them in the show and then expand on them. This is by far the best episode of the show so far.
Brilliant timing for that joke. =))
Had a fit of laughter at that moment before the two characters started laughing.
(450-word review) Undoubtedly the weakest episode so far. Anyone who goes as far as to call it a near-perfect/phenomenal piece of television is taking the piss more than ever before with the previous ones; at least they were more understandably regarded that way. Have some self-respect.
It was an interlude for Joel and Ellie to grow closer/develop their relationship, which is good; they're the draw. I didn't have a problem with that; give me more of them together alongside strengthening their bond. Their final moment before the ending was fantastic. That's the stuff right there.
However, because of that, I thought there was little excitement. Besides the Joel/Ellie development, mostly everything else (in-between) was the slow pacing. Yes, there was their skirmish, not to mention there was also the introduction of Kathleen, an original character for the show, not in the game, and her posse, including whatever's under the building. But none of it was compelling, almost to the point of seeing them as generic. Joel and Ellie are where the investment is. And while those scenes were undoubtedly the highlight, it's an exaggeration to consider that sufficient.
The jump to these new characters was a little jarring. More importantly, I'm not interested. Yes, they've only been in one episode, but that should be more than enough to capture interest. One would hope that Kathleen and her group's involvement in the show will be worthwhile, for however many episodes they're in, but the 'original character for the show' aspect isn't that hopeful.
Neither is the supposed intent by the writers to make you question Kathleen's character/leadership. Especially if we're also supposed to find her scary: much less if the next episode reveals she became the leader because of being associated/close with a previous leader rather than being qualified to lead. Are we supposed to find her terrifying because she's soft-spoken and doesn't come across the part, in which case, why are we supposed to question her?
As a character, she's underwhelming, further amplified by Melanie Lynskey's performance, or more the writing/direction; yes, she's only been in one episode so far with barely any screen time. But the opposite could've already been achieved despite that. Don't bother bringing that up as a counter-argument to her character's underwhelmingness from the get-go.
The next episode will supposedly "redeem" her character: revealing her backstory, what led to her current position, and whatnot; it'll have its work cut out. Can the writers turn their rocky start around in their favor? I'm uncertain.
But at least we got more bond-building with Joel and Ellie's relationship. That made this episode worthwhile. Hopefully, the next one will accomplish more in the excitement/investment department.
Some good game->show moments and the jokes are a welcome aspect. There's still a lot of roughness to Bella's portrayal of Ellie though. She's over playing it and it's too jarring. Pedro is absolutely nailing it.
Nice to see Jeffrey Pierce (original Tommy) making an appearance and honestly looking distractingly hot with that beard and hair :flushed:
Wtf was that pit thing? Some kind of fungal mass? Another divergence no doubt for that.
The ending song was soooo familiar to me then I clocked it was the same one they used for the extended trailer for The Last of Us Part 2. Why not save that for season 2?
The joke book being included in the show is fan-fucking-tastic. Also, that little joke at the end with Joel and Ellie, I so much want to believe that Pedro broke character and they kept it, but either way damn it was so good.
I saw a few people say that the episode was too short or filler. It had some really good pacing and storybeats in my opinion and sets up Henry and Sam perfectly.
Also saw some people say the acting was weaker than the games. Folks, some things don't translate well into adaptations. Look at Negan's introduction in the show and then look at his comic faithful introduction in the show, it sounds so bad compared to his show-adaptation. Joel and Ellie need to be set apart from their game-counterparts in many different ways to avoid comparison.
Overall, good episode.
Ellie's puns are fantastic, and perfect. Perfect break up of the darkness, and sadness of this show. This world is truly a free for all, and yet so much wide open space with no one.
Favorite episode so far 10/10
It was nice to see real Tommy as not-Tommy.
Such a solid episode and so close to the game’s tension, action and also the conversations between them.
Waiting one more week is going to be hard
Ellie: Is that the stuff they get from the Starbucks in the QZs?
Joel: Well, yes, but it's usually fresher.
Ellie: It smells like burnt shit.
Not a knock on the show as I get it's doing it's own thing, but far preferred how some of these scenes were done in the game compared to this. However it is great seeing Joel open up a bit more here, excited for the next one!
Nice to see Joel and ellies relationship begin to shift in this episode.
The first episode of the show was OK, not great, but watchable. The show has since turned into an avalanche of horrible acting, clichéd scenes, puns that only Redditors would like. This episode has ridiculous scene where they drive around town instead of going around the tunnel which you can see the obvious roads beside the tunnel which lead to the other side.
Did make it look like getting a car battery is the last one earth. Yet the city dwellers have 1 billion cars. Kind of blows the ridiculousness of the story out of the water.
Not a bad episode. Lacks the hype the trailers gave off. I'm starting to get the jest that every episode leaves me a bit disappointed and craving for more. 2 episodes in a row where not really much happen that affect the plot directly.
Sometimes shows need episodes that are simply set up. I feel like this episode was part 1 to a two episode story. But the dynamic between Pascal and Bella carried me through, needed episode for the character development. It was a nice touch of realism that they explain Joel's bad hearing on the fact that he’s shot a lot of guns over the years, without ear protection.
As someone who hasn’t played the games or know much backstory, the quick jump in this episode to Kathleen interrogating the doctor about Henry threw me off. I thought I missed some scenes.
I find the show to be entertaining. But it isn’t anything groundbreaking. Some of the hype for it seems overblown because it feels like many other post apocalyptic shows/movies.
That's more like it.
A vast improvement over the previous episode.
The most the show has felt like TLOU since the opening with Sarah.
Keep it coming.
Post apocalyptic Kansas City is amazing
Bit slow of an episode... But I can't criticize it when the slow pace makes other episodes shine twice as much.
8.5/10
Sensational
Yes the bond is finally
showing, will we get
the first "Baby Girl"
for the seasons end.
This episode really felt
and played out like a
proper adaptation
of TLOU,
out of all the episodes
so far this one felt right
and as it should be.
Yes it matched everything
that needed matching up
to the games set pieces
at this stage spot-on
but I was looking forward
to Joel going into instant
kill mode when the trap got
sprung because it's
frickin awesome amazing
in the game, fighting
back from very nearly
getting his head spiked
on that glass spike,
then BOOM you get to
see why you don't fcuk
with him and his daughter.
but alas it was watered
and down played,
also what the fcuk is
Shauna from
Yellowjackets doing in
this I absolutely
can't stand Melanie,
she just straight up
annoys me, terrible
actress.
That aside
this episode was my
favourite one yet,
everything just worked
for me in this one
"NO PUN INTENDED TOO"
but it didn't feel "bloated"
or like it had anything to
prove it worked perfectly with
the source martial knowing
sometimes all it takes
are minor deviations,
(Especially with an
already proven formula).
The worst thing is not the infected
Enjoying every TV show with Pedro Pascal. This guy is always doing a great job
In just a single episode, the show addresses the primary grievance I had with it—the relationship between Joel and Ellie. It’s a little sad that it took four episodes to get here, but at least we’re finally making progress. With each passing moment, the show is starting to feel more and more like the masterpiece it’s destined to be.
While the episode is relatively straightforward, it does an excellent job of further developing the world and planting the seeds of a mystery that has piqued my interest. However, Bella Ramsey’s acting remains a tad raw around the edges, but with the aid of the writing, Ramsey manages to hold their own. It’s a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things, and it doesn’t detract from the overall quality of the episode.
This episode of “Joel and Ellie’s” was a significant step forward for the show; of course, this is The Last of Us, so don’t expect any sentimental mushiness. Joel and Ellie are still two very different people who don’t trust each other fully. Joel is still haunted by his past losses and reluctant to get attached to anyone. Ellie is still rebellious and curious about the world she never knew. Their dialogue is sharp and witty but also honest and vulnerable.
As usual, HBO has delivered a masterful adaptation that again proves why they’re the king of prestige television. The Last of Us continues to impress with its cinematic quality. The cinematography is stunning, capturing the beauty and horror of this post-apocalyptic world. The tight and tense direction keeps us on edge throughout every scene. HBO has spared no expense in bringing this adaptation to life.
With each passing moment, the show continues to build momentum and establish itself as something special. Get ready to be blown away by what’s yet to come—this show is only just getting started.
01x04 - Please Hold to My Hand: 8.3/10 (Great)
Better than episode 3 because it did appear to be in service of the story. The two excellent leads and the production design are still the only things keeping me going with this otherwise completely routine and very tedious post-apocalyptic show though. There is literally nothing else of interest.
Amazing and awesome and bloody
With each week, I become more tempted to buy the game…again!
dayum, we get to see the character of Joel in this episode, plus a bit of ellie past, overall the vibe this episode is good, good to see there's more organization out there aside from fedra and the rebels
God freaking damnit, I kinda remember a bit of what comes next, but I stg I just about almost screamed some swear words when it ended like it did. Freaking Cliff Hangers. Man, they did a really good job adapting this from the game. If I had my PS4 with me, I'd play the darn thing again so I could refresh my memory. Heck, I'm half tempted to get the PC version just to do it...but what a money suck that'd be for a game I already own, haha. I can't wait to see how this plays out on the TV screens. Freaking awesome show man. The only thing I'd suggest as someone else said is to wait to watch this. The cliff hangers will have you screaming bloody mary.. I really am glad I know what happens or I'd be having a fit. I knew it was coming, but I forgot what exactly was coming...IDK if that's how it went in the game exactly, but hell, they did a great job! And I'm just here wanting the week to go past so I can get to the next episode...The jokes had me dying how cute it was. The parts where I should have been crying, I was crying. It just gets your heart going. Trying not to to be a spoiler here, haha.
Yeah... it had to happen eventually, right? This is the first episode I genuinelly disliked.
Too much of a "The Last Of Us, pt. 2" vibe for me, "Kathleen".
I don't care how much they try, I just can't sympathize with the persons trying to kill Joel and Ellie.
Were those the little lamplighters from Fallout 3 at the end?
Continuing on Joel and Ellie's journey, Ellie stumbles upon the infamous joke book that brought a tear to my eyes. When their journey is abruptly stopped, they must sneak their way through the city to avoid detection from being hunting by a foreign group.

Back on track with the story after the last episode.
